Fantastic 40+ Mums

Mum of 2, DS1 nearly 4yo and DD2 almost 11 weeks. I hope to find here advices from experienced mums so that I can avoid mistakes... I made some with DS1 and my life sometimes is hell, it is hard to unlearn wrong behaviour, so hard.
At the time being, DD2 is a very sweet baby, she is easy to decipher, cries are always related to some kind of discomfort and I managed to learn what they mean, or almost. Only one issue with her ATM is that she rejects bottle feeding even with expressed milk. I'd like to be able to escape a bit from the house to get a haircut or a facial. And I am sure DH would like to feed her sometimes too.
I struggle a bit more with DS1, who is usually a good boy, energetic, happy and loving. But after school, getting him to take his bath is a battle and falling and staying asleep all night are big issues. The problems did exist before but now with the recent arrival of his sister, the intensity has increased. Or maybe they are the same but to me they seem bigger and need to be addressed quickly so that I can look after both without raising my voice.
All advice are welcome. I need help here.

Also I'd like to invite all the graduates from the Fantastic 40+ Mums to be thread to join. You have been truly fantastic and so supportive during my pg. I hope to be able to keep on sharing with you this wonderful parenting adventure.

ahh baby monkey :( baby seaside also screamed so had to feed her in nurses room! slept for 3 hours after in sling though bless her while mummy had carb-heavy lunch (pizza, potato wedges, fondant fancy) and bought a swing in the sale - only £35 and can sell on if she hates it ... i hateit, its big and beige and plastic, but daytime naps / toilet breaks for me would be worth it. back home now, hoping we can both nap once she stops the dramatic farting. an injection sideeffect??

littleredmonkey · 08/01/2013 15:11

Bythesea. Baby monkey has no gas not yet '!!! But I am sure one will blast out soon enough. I took him in his monkey hoodie and the nurse laughed at his outfit. I think he looks cute.
Oh before I forget can we list birthday please

littleredmonkey · 08/01/2013 15:22

Dp hates taking me out for dinner on birthday every where always packed and flower lady always shows up with shit roses. I find it funny

10000Fireflies · 08/01/2013 21:26

Wow LRM. You can tell the time by your boobs!! That's amazing!! I've only had the occasional leak, rarely had probs with pain, but DS a little bruiser, so there's obviously enough on offer.

A good tip for jabs is to have a bottle to hand to shove in their little mouths. They forget the pain v quickly. Quicker than getting boob out. Hope the farting has subsided seaside!

Went to exercise class today. Lovely to be out and about and getting to normal. Weather much nicer than forecast. Snuggled down with DS this avo to help him get to sleep. We both woke up about 3 hours later!! Must have needed it! He was back in bed 2.5 hours later. Suspect he'll be after some more food soon though.

Cleaner coming tomorrow and I haven't prepared for her. I have to be more organised. I know she is just fannying around in the bathroom. She shuts herself in for ages and bathroom is not that big. She refused to clean the fridge when I asked her a few weeks ago. She says she is training to be an accountant and cleaning is just to tide her over... My last cleaner was an embroiderer to the stars... a few years back I had a cleaner who told me she was an artist, the agency was awful etc etc. She threw away bags of stuff, including crockery on her first, and last visit!!

Rambling now, going to go and concentrate on Death in Paradise.

GoatBongosAnonymous · 09/01/2013 00:50

Bloody teething. Who designed babies?
Zzzzzzzzz.
Will read the interestingly busy thread properly tomorrow.

10000Fireflies · 09/01/2013 01:41

Mummy and Daddy rap

Oh my days. BFF has forgotten night time is for sleeping. Have given up. He is playing on the lounge floor while I surf the internet. Oh oh, another whinge attack coming on.

I guess 3 hours sleep this avo and 7pm bedtime was going to spell disaster before long.

Midgetm · 09/01/2013 09:52

Naughty baby firefly. Don't blame you for giving up fighting it though FF I am jealous at you exercising. I am working on getting that back and after all that procrastination my diet started yesterday. 24llbs to go Blush

LRM Grin at boob clock. Me too but only around 1am and 6am. Wake without fail and If I don't then I can tell how much later it is Grin.

Having trouble keeping up with you all. goat I am with you in the teething. Think master midge is an early developer as showing a lot of signs. Make them stop!

I have consultants appointment today to have a look at my bits. Having a lot of Abdo pain so feeling a prolapse more likely Sad. Just had 12 week jabs and he was so brave. Stuck a boob in his mouth and instantly happy again. Last time he just slept after and same seems to be happening again. Lazy little man. Will try and catch up properly later. And I'll bring sherry, port and a good red wine for the snug.

blueblackdye · 09/01/2013 11:07

Have one flat boob and a massive one that is almost painful. Can't wait for Anastasia to wake up and drain it...
Still have to dive in the spare room and see if I can find more treasures, diamonds would be lovely.
But also need to pack for DS, who is going away with DH for 5 days to visit grand pa who had surgery 2 weeks ago. I will miss him so much. Will be left alone with Anastasia, first time since birth...
Shall we try to organise another meet up before 28Jan ? I will be away after for 10 days. The Booking Office in St Pancras is very nice, Midget and I can confirm but we need to make a booking if there are lots of us. Or the coffee place at House of Fraser on 5th floor away from the hectic shopping floor has been refurbished too, and right next to the kids dept. Anyone with me ? When/where would it be the best ?

10000Fireflies · 09/01/2013 16:50

Midget I have no idea what I weigh!! I look ok from the front, it's when I turn sideways that the problems start!! What did the consultant say about your bits? Great addition to the snug btw.

Trying to improve diet. Last night, suggested DH and I share a portion of fish and chips and put a pile of green veg with them. But by the time DH was back with F&C neither of us had time or inclination to do veg. Still DH had bought 600 (ouch) calorie sundaes too to finish off the meal. It's going to be an uphill struggle.

What's this about a meet up BBD? Have you revealed your real identities to each other?!! Shock

blueblackdye · 09/01/2013 17:29

Hey FF yes, actually some of us have. As a good friend of mine said (she will recognised herself) she and I aren't secret agent of any sort so why not ? Does that sound crazy ? I meant to ask you a long time ago but always forgot, how is your brother doing now ?
Midget, I will drink a sip of yor port, have this strange genetic thing that does not allow my body to deal with alcohol, it goes straight in the blood stream so I get hammered instantly ! Also had hyper thyroid so could eat anything without putting on weight, unfortunately I had to have it treated... But I can deal with sundaes, yum

ScubaSarah · 09/01/2013 19:52

Hi, I'm back.. I dropped off for a few weeks while I was early in PG cos I felt like I was only reading sad / horror stories and got myself all freaked out. I'm now 10+3 (39yo expecting DC1) and feeling more confident and avoiding the sad threads (sorry for those going through it but I can't read them)

Hope you're all doing well, had a good xmas/NY etc

GoatBongosAnonymous · 09/01/2013 21:13

Hello scuba !
Hmm, I am very behind on this thread, you are all very busy... Today I did my first buggyfit class which knackered me completely for the afternoon, so this is the first time I can lift a finger to type. (Lifting BG was bad enough)
lrm no one has an excuse to forget your birthday!
BG was born 18 July, same birthday as Nelson Mandela ( absolutely no pressure there then...)
How are you midget ? How was the appointment?
ff your cleaner threw away your crockery?? Was that because it was dirty?!
(Though I did have a landlady once who threw out all my shoes. I had the best pair of grandma boots which I mourn to this day.)
vq I laughed at your bra incident. Haven't done that but have gone out not realising that I had an elegant and artistic embroidery of puke down one shoulder.
seaside ahhhh potato wedges one day again...
BG is very cute he has just properly discovered his hands and feet. Drenches me at bath time every time kicking like mad. Loves his skwish and kicks and waves it about. And every so often has a giggling fit. Chats the whole time. Hopefully has now tired himself out completely as I have turned into a mean mean mummy. He does not feed properly in the early hours of the morning so I have decided he doesn't get fed. He has a feed at about 12:30, which is a proper one, then had been waking up at 2/3/4 and just fooling round. So no more until at least 5 am. First two nights he thrashed around the bed for ages but didn't yell so I left him to it and went back to sleep. Cue feed just after 5 both times. Last night unfortunately we had a leak and changing him woke him up, so I cracked at 4:30. And guess what? He fooled around with the bottle and took about 30 ml. Oh well.
Ok, have a related question. For those with babies sleeping longer than 6 hours, what do you do nappy wise? We are using baby-dry at night, but they don't last longer than 6 hours - BG wees for Britain, and now that I can't stop him sleeping on his front, a leak is inevitable if I don't change him at the 12:30 feed. Optimistic me is looking ahead to sleeping through (you never know!) and thinking that we may be awash by morning...

GoatBongosAnonymous · 09/01/2013 21:39

Ps meeting up would be great. I hope the trains are kinder this time. I think 14th was mentioned, but I will be a bleeping machine hooked up to monitors etc that day (time to see if the HELLP has gone) also can't do 17th. Any other days probably possible.

blueblackdye · 09/01/2013 22:39

Arrrrrgggh, just lost long post. Too tired to rewrite tonight, will do tomorrow.
Hope everyone is ok, Midget hw was your appointment, and VQ do you manage to get a little bit of rest ? and babies as well after jabs ?
Goat, will correct baby Goat's birthday, so sorry. Re nappy leak, I used Active Fit size 3+, Anastasia is 7 kg and although it is vey full in the morning it is not leaking. If you give a proper feed at 12.30, can you change him before the feed as he is already awake ? If he wakes up because he is wet, once you have changed him and he is not hungry, he should be able to go back to sleep, hum hum, in theory... Sometimes it is happening. Stupid question : Do you push his thingy down when putting his nappy on ? That can do the trick too...
Bye for now, good night every one.

Midgetm · 09/01/2013 23:26

Quick one as knackered. Got a referral for a specialist as something is amiss with my vaginal wall Blush. Really hoping it was all in my mind. Dr thinks minor but not her area. Midge had a reaction to his jab so should be saying it is a bad day but feel a little positive. Love to meet up old birds. Can't do Tuesday x

bytheseaside · 09/01/2013 23:50

oh I would love to meet up with you all, but don't feel confident enough to get train to big smoke just yet. Don't forget to email me a photo of your meet-up though! And we can maybe try skype again?

Baby seaside feeeling rough after her jabs, but is now asleep in her carseat in the kitchen (yes really!!!!) after lovely daddy drove her round thr block for an hour an a half so I could do tidying and swing-building - it really is ugly!

midget sorry about v wall

There's obviously a trade in old shoes and crock - that's shocking!

GoatBongosAnonymous · 10/01/2013 01:30

bbd I do change him before the feed (he is quite good at remaining semi asleep!) and push his thingy down Wink this does fine at the moment if the feed is less than six hours since the last one. We just had a complete soaking because it was six and a half hours. Hmm maybe he just needs to be able to go up a size - he is still in size 2 and will be for at least a couple of weeks yet I would think. Maybe the nappy is just too small to cope?

midget bugger about the v wall but hope its just minor as the consultant says. Also that young Midge is feeling better after his jabs. Are those the last before 1 year?

GoatBongosAnonymous · 10/01/2013 01:31

seaside hope baby s lets you make a nice uneventful trip to London soon so we can meet you both!

BadMissM · 10/01/2013 14:09

Oh, damn damn damn. Am actually, for once, in London on the 14th! Have fun if you do meet up! xxx

bytheseaside · 10/01/2013 14:36

scuba hi! avoid all the scary stories ... i felt like you do but every day your pregnancy if getting more and more established and safe :)

never slept long enough to have that problem goat but re wet nappies do you do a proper clean-up each time? now poos have gone down from 8 to one a day (yay!!! although it is a massive one) i sometimes just swap wet for dry. is that dreadful?

eagleray how are things??

another bad mum admission: i only just found out about 'tummy time'. to be fair its only recently that baby s will go down for a 10 minute wriggle-and-kick and is still held most of the time. but i read it can delay motor development - s**t. why didn't i know?

blueblackdye · 10/01/2013 15:19

Badmiss, if you want, we can go for a coffee on 14th Jan you have time, which London train station will you arrive at ? If Kings Cross, I can meet you there. Let me know and we will be able to swear in French !!! And drink on the good news you will get with the Harmony test.
Seaside, don't worry, now that you know, leave LO on the floor for a good kick and tummy time, 5 minutes if do-able every other hour and increase, don't beat yourself, ok ?

GoatBongosAnonymous · 10/01/2013 15:42

seaside all the time that baby s spends on you counts as tummy time, so she has probably had more than lots of babies!

bytheseaside · 10/01/2013 16:00

oh phew she is getting nearly permanent tummy time in that case...
