Fantastic 40+ Mums

Mum of 2, DS1 nearly 4yo and DD2 almost 11 weeks. I hope to find here advices from experienced mums so that I can avoid mistakes... I made some with DS1 and my life sometimes is hell, it is hard to unlearn wrong behaviour, so hard.
At the time being, DD2 is a very sweet baby, she is easy to decipher, cries are always related to some kind of discomfort and I managed to learn what they mean, or almost. Only one issue with her ATM is that she rejects bottle feeding even with expressed milk. I'd like to be able to escape a bit from the house to get a haircut or a facial. And I am sure DH would like to feed her sometimes too.
I struggle a bit more with DS1, who is usually a good boy, energetic, happy and loving. But after school, getting him to take his bath is a battle and falling and staying asleep all night are big issues. The problems did exist before but now with the recent arrival of his sister, the intensity has increased. Or maybe they are the same but to me they seem bigger and need to be addressed quickly so that I can look after both without raising my voice.
All advice are welcome. I need help here.

Also I'd like to invite all the graduates from the Fantastic 40+ Mums to be thread to join. You have been truly fantastic and so supportive during my pg. I hope to be able to keep on sharing with you this wonderful parenting adventure.

Glad J is on the mend VQ, it's so stressful when they're not right. Happy New Year everyone! We will be in bed by 11pm after Rosa's late feed, as normal. We know how to live Grin. Hats off to any of you staying up for the countdown xx

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 31/12/2012 18:17

Happy birthday bbd ! Have a wonderful day.
midget like bbd I don't believe you about needing the weight loss. In the photo you sent you looked small and svelte.
knotty wow to the routine already. And congratulations on the maiden voyage! These prams take some driving. I nearly crashed into a brick wall today.
seaside sorry to hear babyseaside hasn't been feeling well. Hope she is better.
I sorted out BG's room today. There is an enormous pile of clothes that must be consigned to the garage, and suddenly he fits some of the 6-9 month stuff. When did that happen?! But the room looks lovely now and one of my new year resolutions is to get him into his cot. Also we want to get the artists in the family to paint a couple of pictures for the walls. We have a couple of pros so should be good!

blueblackdye · 31/12/2012 18:58

Knotty, Rosa is on a routine and that is a super bonus ! wanted to say Yeh to baby Goat for rolling over ! And Eagleray, 17 days left, enjoy, stock on sleep and rest as much as you can, motherhood is great, best job in the world and much more demanding than anything else as you can tell by reading this thread. BadmissM how did the appointment in London go today ?
Baked my best chocolate cake ever today. Not sure it will last until tomorrow... Sorry, should not mention that. He, it is te last day of the year, treat yourself, diet can start tomorrow.

Evening ladies. Just popping in to wish you and your lovely babies and families a Happy New Year. You're right lrm, it has been an exciting and scary year and it's been good to share it with you all. Life's never going to be the same, but I don't want my old one back! I love baby FF so much, and he's becoming such a gorgeous little bundle of fun. Sorry I haven't been the most prolific of posters. Have been very busy with all sorts of crap, but hopefully 2013 will be calmer.

Happy New Year to you all. Love and hugs. FF xx

littleredmonkey · 01/01/2013 08:21

Happy new years sleeps bythesea.
We had the new year miracle last night. He slept 7:30 -10;30. Then 11:15 -6:15. Holy crap. Five to six he shuffled alot but he stayed in his basket eyes closed. Ewans red glow showed his little legs and arms waving about then sleep then more waving. He is a sleep on me now. He woke up very hungry and boobs fit to burst good job I got up and expressed last night at 11. Then he finished feeding and threw it all up. Poor baby. Trying new nap routine today. Ps. Weighed myself and am 4 stony 6lbs heavier then last year. So no sugar or carbs for me and especially for my mate midget the x trainer will be used and daily power walks

knottyhair · 01/01/2013 08:45

Yay, LRM, that's amazing! Well done baby LRM Smile. Good luck with the weight loss, just remember it took a while to put it on, and it'll take a while to lose it and keep it off. I lost 2.5 stone over about 8 months and kept it off for another 6 months before I got pregnant. Hoping to do the same again although it may be more than 2.5 stone this time. Hope everyone had a peaceful NY Eve - a few fireworks around midnight but didn't seem to wake Rosa, just me! She slept until 6, after her 2am feed, and is asleep now. DS on the x-box, DP still in bed but I prefer to get up and potter around, and go back to bed for an hour or so after lunch.

blueblackdye · 01/01/2013 08:53

Happy New Year every one. We are waiting for Anastasia to wake up to go to Winter Wonderland for DS. He has been up since 6am. Anastasia went down at 7pm, fed at 1.30 and then 6, still sleeping atm. She has gone back to the habit of feeding in the middle of the night, shame.
Enjoy this beautiful sunshine. Wish you all better nights all year long, lots of patience and beautiful smiles from babies.

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 01/01/2013 10:04

Not feeding seaside, teething has really set in and the poor thing isn't happy Xmas Sad He finally went back to sleep at about 9:20.
Fab on the sleeping lrm long may it last! Good old Ewan, he is working overtime here too. What counts as a yummy treat for a sheep?
Lovely sunshine for your birthday bbd - thanks for ordering it!
2013, year of the weight loss... Want to be svelte(ish) by the time I hit the shores of NZ in July.

littleredmonkey · 01/01/2013 12:48

Happy birthday to bbd. Xxx
How was winter wonderland.
Just doing naping trial with baby monkey. Lord he chats now what noises he makes sucking on his hand and lots of jibby jab

littleredmonkey · 01/01/2013 12:58

Nso trial into second hour. Little monkey cuddles he sleeps. Hates day time basket. My own fault letting him sleep on me. Plus bad day to give up the carbs and sugar ahhhhhhh! !

10000Fireflies · 01/01/2013 15:22

Avo all! We had a quiet NYE - fast asleep well before midnight and no amount of fireworks would have woken any of us. Rock'n'roll babies!!

Today we've been for a lovely walk in the park, with bacon butties and coffee at the half-way mark. Currently enjoying sofa and Dr Who reruns. Really have to try and knuckle down and try and sort out some of the unbelievable mess that is our home and crack on with TTC #2. Ideally would like to be preggers again before 44th (ouch, how did I get so old??!!) birthday in August.

Enjoying last day with DH around. We've had almost two weeks together. Has been lovely. Longest time since DS born. We will both feel a bit lost and lonely without him around even though we have got a bit narky with each other. Has been a v busy period - we had to fly to Italy on 21st Dec and back on 23rd, only to unpack, wash, repack and travel to parents on Christmas Eve. Generally though things are better now and have calmed down for us. So now I can get DS to settle down a bit and get into a good routine of eating and sleeping otherwise we might go mad!!

New Year's resolutions:
*lose weight (start The Shred) and keep going to buggy fit classes
*stop haemorrhaging money
*be more organised

  • Get DS into good sleeping and eating routine. *conceive DC2.

Much love to you all. May 2013 be good to us all. Hope I can find some more time this year to keep up a bit better with you all. FF xx

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 01/01/2013 16:35

Ooh ff I turn 44 in August too! When is your birthday? ( I have to persuade DH that no 2 is a good idea but there are signs he is cracking Xmas Wink maybe the thought of lots of trying will help!!)

Hope you are having a lovely birthday bbd

eagleray · 01/01/2013 17:05

Many happy returns BBD! Hope the party went well Smile

Goatbongohohoandjinglejingle · 01/01/2013 19:31

Anyone with older LOs, do you have any advice on teething? Poor BG is really suffering, particularly as he does not have the motor control to put things in his mouth to chew on. Also is nowhere near weaning. And is more vomiting to do with the teething?
Sorry to ask, he is in such discomfort today!

10000Fireflies · 01/01/2013 19:51

OMG, I can't believe I've forgotten both times I posted to wish you a happy birthday bbd. Hope you had a great time!!

Goat tell me your bday first then I'll tell you mine!! I am keeping off the subject of TTC with DH at the moment as I think he's finding DS a bit of a PITA. Shame really, as when DS is being cute and lovely DH laps up the attention, but scarpers when there's work to be done.

I just wrote a huge whingey post about my horrible family, but I have deleted it. God, I will not tolerate the appalling behaviour that goes on amongst my generation with my DS and any other DC I might be blessed with.

Bum. Thought poppet had decided to have an early night, but he's up again and chatty and perky. Guess he'll be staying up until I go to bed again!!

scarecrow22 · 01/01/2013 21:37

Hello goat, am sneaking a look over from the pg thread. I have a DD of just 2 already so mostly done one batch of teething. How old is babygoat? If not near weaning would you let him gnaw on frozen watermelon or melon (less risk choking as goes to liquid mush), or chilled teething rings etc? Tbh though, unless you are a purist, I'd try the homeopathic teething salts (eg Boots) first, they give short term relief but can get you through tricky short patch; if that fails I'd hand up any guilt and do Calpol as needed. If its any consolation DD suffered bit with first ones but later teeth often popped through with not much more than a bit of a red bottom, poss a runny bottom (sorry if tmi).
Good luck (and take it from a former (quasi)purist - Calpol rocks!)

10000Fireflies · 01/01/2013 23:48

Goat baby FF was an early teether too and also lacked motor skills to get things in mouth to chew. This one is good. Also, among the plethora I have bought for him, found a Nuby one which you can chill to be v good, also, a small wooden spoon (ie a short one, normal size spoon), and best of all a baby's toothbrush. Seriously, he loves the last two - the toothbrush especially as he can ram it wherever he likes. The vomiting could be related. Not sure. DS has been a bit vomity and gripey today and I am sure the griping is more teeth coming through, so maybe the two are related. Some people think there is a teething cough.

I am a firm believer in proper pain relief. I am not sure what the Teetha granules really do. I was told after I'd had an op to keep taking the pain killers. Apparently if you allow yourself to feel in pain, the healing process takes longer - pain causes stress to the body, which interferes with the healing process. You can give Ibuprofen as long as your baby is old enough, as well as Calpol. I have tended to give Ibuprofen at night and Calpol during the day.

It has been a wearing afternoon/evening with DS griping so much, as he was also most of yesterday. I thought my luck was in as he fell asleep at about 1830, but was awake by the time Eastenders was on and I only managed to get him to sleep again at 10:30. I have so much to do. I am getting very frustrated not being able to do anything.

BadMissM · 02/01/2013 00:18

What can I add? Baby ibuprofen, and Chamomilla 5CH, three granules either dissolved under the tongue or in a bottle (it calms...) also Arnica 3/5 CH again 3 granules if the site of the teething is sore. Had DD in France and they use lots of homeopathy...

10000Fireflies · 02/01/2013 00:59

I'm feeling guilty now. Maybe I give the homeopathy more of a go. The calming aspect sounds good.
