My DS is 3 in may, and just wondering what bedtime everyone thinks is suitable (he does have tv on in bed before going to sleep) to really, what is the best time for him to go to his bedroom for the night?

My son goes to bed at 8 and is normally asleep for half past 8. He is 2

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 06/03/2012 19:07

My 20 month old and 3.3yo both go to bed at 7pm - stories on ds1's bed at 6.45ish, ds2 into his room first and tucked in, then I go back and make sure ds1 is ok before closing his door.

SpankyMcSparrow · 06/03/2012 19:07

When my ds was 3 (now 4, same times) he went in his room at 6.15, played for a while, was in bed by 7 asleep by half past.

Don't get into the habit of putting the tv on. it will keep them awake/hyped up and then unable to go to sleep without a tv on compleatly.

Sorry posted to soon,

You will make it hard work for yourself in the long run. My db does this with his ds and he will NOT go to sleep unless his tv is on. My db has been known to turn it back on at 3am to settle him back down Hmm

pregnantpause · 06/03/2012 19:10

My 3 nearly four year old is in bed asleep by seven. Sometimes closer to six. So 6-7 o clock suits us.

AThingInYourLife · 06/03/2012 19:12

2 year old DD bedtime at 7.

3 year old DD bedtime at 7.30, lights out by 8.

confuzed90 · 06/03/2012 19:14

Oops already made the mistake of him having to have his tv on! Has been for about a year now. I have been knows to put tv on if he wakes throughout the night! Oh god.

The earliest time in the evening that he gets sleepy.

My 2.2 y.o. is usually asleep by 8.30/8.45pm. He's always awake a minimum of 6 hours after his nap. If he had a shorter nap, he'd go to bed earlier.

Tee2072 · 06/03/2012 19:38

My 2.8 year old had quiet playtime starting at 630, in bath by 645-7, then milk, story into Bed. He's a very bad settler so even though he's in bed by 730 he's usually awake until 8.

CrystalQueen · 06/03/2012 19:40

WE have just moved our 3.3 DD's bedtime forward by half an hour. Bath about 6.30, asleep by about 7.15. If she is acting up due to tiredness we go up earlier.

Methe · 06/03/2012 19:43

Between 6 and 7.

3 year olds don't need the tv on, you'll set him up for a life time of poor sleep habits.

OctopusSting · 06/03/2012 19:46

DD's 5 and 3 both go to bed at 7pm. Asleep by 7.15.

Iggly · 06/03/2012 19:47

Lights out at 7. Sometimes earlier. We used to fall into the trap of thinking that he didn't look tired so later bedtime. But GED take ages to settle. Pulling it earlier even by ten mins means he settles faster, even though he doesn't seem ready. Same for naps too. DS is 2.5.

RitaMorgan · 06/03/2012 19:47

The bedtime doesn't really matter so long as he is getting enough sleep.

If you get up at 6am, he probably needs to go to bed by about half 7. If you sleep in til after 10am then it doesn't matter if he stays up til midnight.

Spookey80 · 06/03/2012 19:47

I have a 3yo and 1 year old. I aim for both in bed by 7ish, sometimes let the 3 yo stay up bit later. But this is a good time for us, and seems to work.
Bit of tv downstairs then upstairs for books, teeth and tucked in by 7, sometimes bit earlier for little babe.

Iggly · 06/03/2012 19:47

He'd not GED

knackeredmother · 06/03/2012 19:48

My 2 year old goes about 10pm when we go. Gets up about 9am. Not for everyone but works for us.

headfairy · 06/03/2012 19:51

My dcs have always had a bed time of about 7pm. Dd (2.2) goes up at 6.30, has a story and a cuddle and gets in to bed at 6.45. I guess she's asleep by 7. Ds(4.6) goes up at 6.45, has a story and is in bed by 7. He listens to stories on his cd player and probably goes to sleep around 7.15.

I agree the tv in bed isn't a great habit to get in to... That was one reason why we got ds his cd player, he loves listening to stories as he falls asleep.

MadameChinLegs · 06/03/2012 19:52

In an ideal world, I'll want DD when she's a toddler to be in bed ready for a story at 7.

We don't live in an ideal world. What time does your toddler currently go to bed?

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/03/2012 19:52

DD was 3 at Christmas. Now she's dropped her nap she is knackered in the evening and is usually asleep by about 7pm.

I usually put her and her 5yr old brother to bed together, if they're having a bath they go up at 6, if not a bath night then 6.30.

MadameChinLegs · 06/03/2012 19:53

I also don't really know why kids have TV in their bedrooms...I wasn;t allowed one til I was 15, and don't have one in my bedroom now. DD will not be getting a TV in her bedroom until at least 12. Irrespective of social pressures.

Helenfellows33 · 06/03/2012 19:54

my two year old has milk at 6:45 and bed and story by 7 my 7 month old goes at the same time. the others are right though tv to go to sleep could cause all sorts of issues down the line.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/03/2012 19:56

No telly in bedroom here. DH & I did have one in our bedroom pre-kids but then I got rid of it when oldest developed a bit of an addiction to it when I got ready for work in the morning (he was about 18m at the time). I realised I couldn't really say they couldn't have tv in their room if I wasn't abiding by my own rules.

jelliebelly · 06/03/2012 19:56

DD age 3 anywhere between 6 and 7 at the latest. Wakes 6.30ish in the morn and plays till we all get up at 7.

Tv in bedroom madness at this age - what's wrong with bath, stories then lights out??

PavlovtheCat · 06/03/2012 19:59

7.30pm into his cot. Normally have jimjams on etc by 7.15, story with his sister then to his own room, or story in our bed, then his room, whatever we are doing that night. Another story or puzzle together then bed with couple of toys. Aim to have him asleep by 8pm if not before. Tonight, he went silent about 10 mins ago. Yesterday at 7.45pm, the night before 8.30pm.

Sometimes it all starts. Bit later if working late etc, sometimes earlier if kids v tired, been poorly acting up and had enough but not by much either way.
