I can't be the only one with a bit of a nappy obsession.

Can I? [confussed]

Ps, it will get worse over time VQ but its one of them things and theres always someone in a worse state and i think going blind would be worse as you'd not see the kids grow up. Sad

PurplePidjin · 03/11/2012 21:44

DLA is additional to income, don't wait just claim!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 03/11/2012 22:13

Hes filled his part out i need to do my bits on it. I shall do it Monday when its slightly quieter!! When are you due PP??

Prioritise it - you're entitled to that money to help him/your family live to the standard non-disabled people do. So, taxis because you can't walk to the shop; therapy not available on or extra to the nhs; adapted car to fit a wheelchair in; equipment like a bath hoist; a PA to help you take the kids out somewhere nice... All stuff the rest of us take for granted can you tell I've worked in care for too bloody long :o

I'm 36+2 so any time soon, really!

ValiumQueen · 04/11/2012 08:25

Try not to spend all the extra money on nappies though. A lot of my clients have applied for DLA etc and some have been knocked back. A key thing seems to be continence and assistence with tending to hygiene. All the very best with your application.

Fleece wrap awesome. Nappy sodden but no leaks. No more stinky than usual, and she slept longer. May be nowt to do with the fleece, but I can hope.

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 08:56

Fingers crossed, VQ!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 04/11/2012 11:14

Ive no room for nappies Sad ive got a set of those plastic drawers (4) full of fluff. And its a job shoving the drawers shut!! The bucket is a 28l one and is full to the top every other day!

What do you work as VQ?

The cars an automatic and he says thats becoming a struggle. I need to save and learn. I had some lessons year before last then we had a house fire and that put a stop to that!! Was pg with ds2 at the time too.

You'll have to keep us updated on the fleece wrap. So not even a damp patch on her jamas? Excellent. How is J sleeping??

PP - do you think you'll go overdue? Is this your first?

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 12:40

I just started putting nappies away now I've sorted storage (shoe thing that hangs in the wardrobe) I have 36 small and 34 large nappies - that's just the prefolds, not the shaped ones! I'll be washing every 3 days to start and every 5-6 from then on :o

I have no idea, am assuming i can make no plans between next Friday and December 13th. Yes, first one

LeBFG · 04/11/2012 13:13

I hadn't realised this was your first PP. Congratulations - they talk about the first being the 'great discovery' here. I agree. You learn soooo much the first time around. It'll be nice to follow how things go with you!

I've 'converted' the drawers in my bedroom into a baby changing station, so I'll have two places to store nappies. The other is downstairs in DS1's room. I like the idea of the shoe thing to store nappies. Might need to nick that idea.

You still co-sleeping VQ? I think we did this a lot for the first three months at least. Then I had to wean him off the bed into his own so DH could move back in. I don't think DS really slept better with me, but it was less of disturbance as I didn't have to get up to see to him. Not for everyone though, and not the magic bullet some people claim either!

I'm reading your stories with admiration ladies. You have to face so many challenges...and you find time to make nappies and sew and all the other stuff you do. Amazing.

Notgrownupinmyhead · 04/11/2012 14:19

Thats because we rule. Grin

Whats the weather like in France? Its sunny and cold where i am so thats my excuse for only dressing the babies and me and the 4yr old are in our jamas.

I havent counted the nappies but I think its
15 size 1 Bamboozles
15 size 2 Bamboozles
About 20 pocket/poppered/osfa nappies
Dont know about the wraps about 10.
Silly amounts of boosters, fleece and inserts.

PP have you had everyone mithering fussing over you?

PurplePidjin · 04/11/2012 14:34

Yeah, I'm very much a noob! PidjChick has about £80 of fluff - all those prefolds plus maybe 20 osfm fitteds/aios (including 2 story prints and a stars), 3 "pretty" wraps (milky way, guitars and owls) and 21 plain white wraps. And 15 assorted boosters. And whatever fleece and wool soakers i decide to make...

Today's bargain is a moses basket and stand for £5. Now i won't be confined to the bedroom upstairs every time he naps, hurrah! Although that practically guarantees I'll get one that only sleeps in the car/sling/buggy Wink

I'm not really the kind of person people get away with mithering over, thankfully. They can try but i have a handy Hmm face that puts all but the most determined off

ValiumQueen · 04/11/2012 16:20

Notgrown I am an addictions nurse, so work with children and families affected by drugs and alcohol. Not even a damp patch Grin. Not that I found anyway. J is trying to sleep, and managed about 2 hours in his basket last night. The rest of the sleep was had with my tit in his mouth. Thankfully I can feed lying down, so got some rest too. DH said he would do that too if he could get away with it.

PP I would not recommend leaving it more than 3 days between washes. They would be pretty stinky and stubborn by 5 to 6 days.

BFG I am actually liking co sleeping and would rather sleep with baby than his daddy at the moment. It is the fear of squishing him, or him suffocating on the mattress, or overheating that worries me. I try him in the basket after each feed, but if he is just not settling, I bring him into bed. There are millions who do it worldwide, but being overweight is a big no no, and we are both chunky.

Sodding midwives want to weigh J again after discharging us yesterday. I told them politely to fuck off. Took some doing I tell you. They did not give in easily but accepted that I did have the right to refuse. 4 weigh-ins in 7 days ffs!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 04/11/2012 17:38

Thats a very interesting job. A friend of ours deals with the addicted and prescribed them allsorts. His reason being - would you rather they mugged old ladies for money to buy more drugs/drink?

I'd one day like to work with vulnerable/teenage mums.

Ive not had this one in bed with me yet. Dh takes up most of the bed with his tossin and turning so its a no. And im of rubenesque proportions too. Grin

I forgot the 10 cosmic print TB thingies too.

Thank god its back at school tomorrow ds1 is driving me mad!!

Notgrownupinmyhead · 04/11/2012 17:40

Ha ha just thought of what was said once 'you have an aura of fuck off thats why no one mithers you'.

ValiumQueen · 05/11/2012 11:04

notgrown Grin very jealous of the cosmic prints.

Second night of fleece and no leaks. Nappy sopping wet too. Bottom looks better than usual actually.

I made some more washable wipes last night, bamboo ones. Very pleased. I am a total convert. Cannot get to my over locker so doing them all by hand. Quite relaxing actually.

wewereherefirst · 05/11/2012 11:12

Hello! New mumsnetter but I've been using cloth for the last 7 months and Im obsessed! Favourites are CB, TB EF and Bamboozles and Blueberry wraps. Have fallen massively out of love with cloth at night. A LL fitted, extra bamboo booster and a hemp booster and DS is still soaked over his clothes by morning. >.<

Has anyone got any ideas?

wewereherefirst · 05/11/2012 11:14

We also love prefolds and wraps here too. I'm a sucker for pretties!

ValiumQueen · 05/11/2012 11:45

Welcome wewere how about going up a size in LL bamboo? Or restricting fluids? How is it possible to love prefolds?

wewereherefirst · 05/11/2012 12:57

Valium- He's 9 months old in size 2's, id worry the size 3's would drown him and we couldn't restrict fluids too much as he's so little.

Prefolds are ace! Simple and they last for ages on DS, even DH loves them (and can put them on), I know we're a rare breed, us prefolds lovers!

wewereherefirst · 05/11/2012 12:59

They are simple not just 'simple'.

ValiumQueen · 05/11/2012 13:08

I have a little pack of bambino Mio. I might just try them.

At 9mths they do wee massively. Not sure why. The size 3 would be too big. Would changing him when you go to bed be an option?

wewereherefirst · 05/11/2012 13:17

Don't use the BM wraps if they come with them, they are worse than useless! They're also good for stuffing pockets.

I could change him when I go up, I used to do it before bed when he was little and did epic wees, it may be the best options until I can get proper night nappies. Thank you

PurplePidjin · 05/11/2012 13:17

Hello wewere!

ValiumQueen · 05/11/2012 13:38

Bugger. I only bought the set for the wrap. It was £5 from mothercare for 3 prefolds and a wrap. Should I pre wash them to get them softer? They seem a bit cardboard-like.

PurplePidjin · 05/11/2012 14:19

I have finally arranged and stored my entire collection of fluff. Would it be really self-indulgent of me to take a picture and put it on my profile for you all to see?
