I can't be the only one with a bit of a nappy obsession.

Can I? [confussed]

Bfg, how do you wash yours?

PurplePidjin · 18/10/2012 13:38

Purple Bold is the one most often recommended on one of the fb groups I'm on?

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 13:47

notgrownup could it be your washer that needs a bit of a scrub? I do mine annually fairly regularly on a hot wash with soda crystals and it helps.

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

Erm nope. Its a year old so could do with it then cos the clothes dont seem to get washed properly either. Blush just on a hot hot cycle?

Purple Bold? Hmm interesting (in Russian accent) I bought som Aeriel Actilift to try but only a small box. I get the powder and softener from Makro so shall have a look.

Ill make cleaning the washer after this load.

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 14:00

Hottest wash there is. I use half a box of soda at a time as it is cheap as anything.

LeBFG · 18/10/2012 14:10

THey have their own makes over here. And, no, no one local to me uses reusable nappies. Strictly reserved for the lentil-weavers. So people go Hmm and pigeon-hole me...until they get to know me better Grin.

I wash every two days. 40 or 60oC. Four little washing nuts in a bag. Splosh of vinegar in the powder tray thing. Line dry. Voila.

But I'm not doing night-nappies atm because of general pg queasiness with poos first thing. I used to rinse night nappies before sticking them in with the wash pile. Just didn't like the idea of all that pee sitting around til wash day.

Honky second hand nappies: soak in water/vinegar overnight. Wash at 60 with small dose (quarter/third of recommended amount) of washing powder. Then rinse and rinse til no suds. Line dry. Voila.

Perhaps the smell is being caused by slow drying? Mine always smell musty if they don't dry in under a day and a half.

LeBFG · 18/10/2012 14:14

Purplepigeon - I can't find Purple Bold on ebay/amazon. Also, all the Bolds on there are 2:1...

PurplePidjin · 18/10/2012 14:27

I can't see it on tesco either Confused I'm probably wrong

Could you pop a drop or two of essential oil in?

Notgrownupinmyhead · 18/10/2012 15:02

I found it on Makros website in 85 and 130 wash boxes which is the size I get Grin sweeeeet.

Im the only freaky mama in the area its great. Mum is having the older 2 in a couple of weeks for the weekend so my hair is getting stripped and going back fire engine red Grin

Mum uses soap nuts so I might long term borrow them off her. Ive just sniffed the last lot I washed and no smell!! They've been on the maiden a couple of days infront of the window......

I love the term lentil weaver.

Am still gonna clean the washer though, I bought a bottle of soda crystals the other day.

Now theres 2 in cloth im washing every other day now instead of every two.

School run time!! Better get out me jamas.

Amazon may sell it

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 15:38

Isn't every other day the same as every 2 days?

Notgrownupinmyhead · 18/10/2012 18:02

In my world its not WinkWink
But I start conversations with DH half way through - ive had the first half in my head and of course he should know what im going on about.

How are you feeling today??

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:17

Thank you for asking... My section is booked for a week today, so I am very grateful for that. I am glad I have just 7 more sleeps maximum, but still getting irritatingly painful tightenings. Nothing regular though. At least I am not facing the prospect of going overdue. Much less tearful today, and I managed to sleep fairly well last night.

I am really looking forward to putting the new baby in fluff. Why is that? For most parents nappy change time is not exactly a high point, but for us addicts it is a different story.

I am going to have a little go at my trainer pants tonight. I think being creative whilst indulging in Dexter will help me immensely.

I do need help with naming my boy though...

Short list is:

Elias
Grayson
Solomon
Erazmus
Benedict
Silas

Dexter is not allowed Sad

blonderthanred · 18/10/2012 18:20

I love Grayson VQ! I like all your names though, Benedict and Silas also fab.

I'm reading the stuff about washing the stale nappies, love this thread!

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:29

I must admit I do like Grayson. DH is Gary so like Gary Son, but not. It is a safe name we feel, perhaps a tad boring. We never had this trouble with the girls. Do you know what flavour you are getting blonder ? Our kids could share a birthday you know Grin

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 18/10/2012 18:31

I like Solomon (Solly) and Benedict (Ben).

Silas will forever be George from Drop the Donk pretending to be a creepy psycho in Hollyoaks for me Hmm

We've secretly chosen Raphael (Rafa) Only you and my Gran know - we want to meet him before we finalise the decision.

LeBFG · 18/10/2012 18:33

You haven't chosen a name yet? In France you have 48 hours after the birth to register the name. You find queues of new Dads each day at the mayor's office registering the birth Grin. Bit of a shock to us as DS came early and we hadn't decided on a name. THey wrote 'Boy BFG' in his birth notes and on his wrist band Smile.

A second vote for Grayson.

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:38

DH really wants Raphael or Gabriel but I just cannot see a boy of mine with either name. It may be because I have never come across either in RL, and so much of names is association.

I am too old to watch Hollyoaks, but every time I mention Silas, that is what folk say.

We will probably wait to see the little spud before deciding.

Are there any nappy related names? Fuzzi? Blueberry? Alva? Pocket?

I have put forward Wolf as a name. It got vetoed.

LeBFG · 18/10/2012 18:39

Hey notgrownup, I have the half-sentence speech defect too. DH still gets annoyed with me about it. YOu thought he would have just accepted it by now.

VQ: you must be looking forward to increased mobility and flexibility after the C-section heals? I would love to be at your stage now. Will your DH be taking time off to help out the first few weeks?

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:40

Good Lord BFG 48 hours is no time!

With the girls we knew what we wanted months before. Both would have been Solomon had they been boys, but we seem to be past that now plus there is a little shit in my daughters class by that name

blonderthanred · 18/10/2012 18:41

I do but I haven't told anyone, even my mum, so I am going to keep quiet even on here.

We have 4 potential names, 2 for each sex in case there has been a mistake at the scan. We'll see what it looks like when it arrives! We've started trying out really random names just in case we've missed something. My mum emailed earlier to say she's found some ancestors called Grateful and Dozer... Hmm interesting...

Do your DH/Ps have an interest in the nappy question? Mine was very keen on the reusables, even didn't want me to get any emergency disposables, but my friend's DH is very anti and doesn't want her to try them. She said I have to let her know how I get on with mine.

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 18/10/2012 18:42

Benitez. Nadal. The painter. Dp's granddad.

Gabriel not so much for me.

The kids at youth club are pushing for Marshall or Hendrix (music project) Hmm

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:44

I healed really well after the section last time. I do not feel as immobile as I did last time as had shocking SPD, but this time I am having my tubes snipped too, so likely to be a bit more sore for a bit longer. DH is taking 2 weeks unpaid leave as he does not qualify for Pat Leave. My mum and dad are local too so can help with nursery and school runs as DH does not yet drive.

BFG any French names you could recommend? DD1 has a Sanskrit name, DD2 German, so open to ideas.

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:54

DH is ok about the washables, but has never washed one. Not that I would let him tbh.

Benitez is cool.

ValiumQueen · 18/10/2012 18:55

Dozer and Grateful. Hmm. Not grabbing me Grin

Notgrownupinmyhead · 18/10/2012 19:16

I love all those names. The boys all begin with D.

48hours?! OMG!! We get 42 days, my appt is just out of time but Ive cleared it with the registrar.

DH is all for me using fluff but I thinks it because I used to chuck the full nappy sacks out the window to where the bins are. Mum loves them but I wore terries as a baby.
