I can't be the only one with a bit of a nappy obsession.

Can I? [confussed]

oh dear going off topic today!! sorry!!

Morning Brew

Job 1 - park arse on sofa for morning
Job 2 - drink coffee and watch shit telly, possibly a spot of crochet
Job 3 - chuck dinner in slow cooker (dal) and defrost naan dough
Job 4 - get dressed and rip up spare room and stair carpets (or maybe leave this tomorrow so mate can help me)
Job 5 - do supermarket run and finish in time to pick up dp from work (or maybe let him cycle in the rain)

I'm not normally this lazy Blush i had a busy week/weekend helping SIL organise DNiece's 7th birthday party - i think i did about 20 hours on the cake alone bloody worth it though :o

PurplePidjin · 08/10/2012 11:37

It's on topic for me, this is all gearing up to the point where i can put the furniture in the nursery and start washing all the fluff! Screed goes down on Wednesday, carpets/lino on Thursday :)

I'm (slowly) gearing up for DC2. This involved thinking about buying duvet for DS so he can move out of cot (hurrah for you fudge!). And thinking about hoovering my room and cleaning up dressing table to install newbie's fluff. All very cerebral.

On a practical note, I've just had second hand prefolds delivered - they're so wee all folded up. I can't really believe DS was ever that small. Bit of a shocker.

And some pre-shate (that lovely word from you lot of fellow fluffers - not sure I would use it in RL tbh Grin) lollipops. They fit loverly, but absorbancy is the real question mark - they're made from fleece. I figured I needed some quick driers to balance out the bamboo. We'll see if the strategy pays off.

Very impressed with everyone else's day you organised lot. I've no plans. I feel left out Sad.

LeBFG · 08/10/2012 13:05

Oh, hang on. I've thought of a plan. I want to make some no-knead bread and trial that damned fudge recipe. Will do both today . After my seista.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 08/10/2012 15:14

Hey all, just been catching up on the thread, all the talk of fudge made my tummy rumble... Mhmmm... fudge great news your DD slept through! How old is she? Also VQ glad to hear your poor little girl's all better, poor thing. My DD is still snotty and have had some very rough nights, she's been back in our bed, last night was ok ish though, only 3 or 4 feeds (!) . I really need to start going to bed when she does to get enough sleep! My plans for today are; stay in and avoid rain, it's grim down south today. Are you all (except LeBFG) in Scotland?! My mum is here so hurrah for an extra pair of hands with my little super-active crawler. She's not walking yet at 14 months. When will she get on with it? She loves climbing though and has been eyeing the bookshelves an worrying manner.

All totally off topic! No nappy news here, I am sticking with my beloved bumbles and miosolos. But VQ when you market your miracle liner we can test them for you Wink

PurplePidjin · 08/10/2012 15:17

Hampshire, Biscuit, very much not Scottish Wink

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 18:35

I am from Hampshire originally. Pompey born and bred. Gradually heading north. Next stop the islands, or maybe Aberdeen first.

Sorting out the nursery today. It is hard work as DH has a lot of rubbish. Obviously all the stuff I hoard is essential and useful, even if it has not been used since we moved in six years ago.

Gonna wash my newborn nappies tomorrow. Now have something to nip. Found my 4 flat bamboo nappies. Also my one and only small wrap. For junior I have:

16 small Fuzzis.
6 LL OSFAs.
4 flat bamboo nappies with nippas.
1 small wrap and 1 OSFA wrap.

Do I need anything else? Probably not as I also have tots bots bamboozles that would fit as I do big babies, and also the Alva nappies and tots bots easyfits that are adjustable too I think. Need to check the inserts fit as I only have two small ones. I used microfibre cloths with the girls, so may treat myself to some new ones.

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 18:36

Could probably do with a couple more small wraps come to think of it.

LeBFG · 08/10/2012 19:51

Yes, I was about to post about how I would struggle with just two wraps. Sounds like you have plenty of fluff. Do the OSFA popper down sufficiently for newborns? Do the fuzzis dry quickly?

I am planning:

4 (I'm sure I've got 6 but 2 have slipped off somewhere) LL size 1
17 prefolds

Erm, that's it. Not sure how many wraps I have. I think 2 small velcro motherease and 1 small LL. Perhaps I need an extra one or two as well.

The lollipops are working well. No nasty smells (yeah!) and better absorption than itti bittis. I just line dried one today in about an hour! I think they fit the bill.

Fudge seems to have worked...on the second try. First round was the MN recipe - total crap, thrown to the pigs. The second was a Youtube one - looks pretty good. But the proof of the pudding, as they say, is in the tasting. I'll wait til tomorrow.

BiscuitCrumbsInBed · 08/10/2012 20:16

Just realised someone mentioned heated clothes airers, we've got a Lakeland one which is brilliantly useful. Apparently 5p per hour to run, works really well if you drape a sheet over it to trap the hot air. Sad it's no longer summer, I loved seeing the nappies drying on the line!

ValiumQueen · 08/10/2012 21:52

BFG I think they will poppa down small enough. If not I have enough Fuzzis to last as I managed fine with the other two, just need to wash each day, which I will have to anyway with two in cloth. The Fuzzis and microfibre cloths dry overnight on a non posh airer, even in winter. Tbh they are dry after a couple of hours.

I therefore need a couple more wraps possibly, and microfibre cloths for stuffing the Fuzzis. I would love some bamboo LL size 1s, but cannot really justify the expense. I think if they repeated the offer of 10 for £30 I would find it impossible to resist though.

LeBFG · 09/10/2012 07:19

Thanks ever so much Biscuit. This is all I need to go out and buy one. I love the low power aspect - they seem ideal, on paper. I just wanted some anecdotal confirmation.

The LL did their job wrt breastfed poo - so slippy and escapey. I'm always surprised those nappies popper down suficiently for a newborn. But I suppose, for babies born at 10lb, it might be a little easier to fit them!!!

In all likelyhood, I'll be doing two in fluff too - weird to think about actually. How will we cope??! I've tried 19mo DS in the buff and although he loves waching himself pee and identifies it with a 'phissh' noise and pointing were he did it, I've had no luck encouraging him to use the potty. He seems to hate it. Runs away like it's the plague. He's still v young, so my hopes aren't set anywhere yet. Some kids just 'get it' quite young. As for the brown stuff....forgeddit.

ValiumQueen · 09/10/2012 09:34

DD has been showing interest, but I am not up to bending and potty training with a newborn and recovering from a section.

Not sure if I have asked this, but has anyone used cloth for training? Have you just gone cold turkey in pants, or used pull up type ones? My large Fuzzis would probably be ok as she pulls them down anyway, but I would like something different so she knows it is different IYSWIM.

LeBFG · 09/10/2012 10:39

God I should stop looking at things I've already bought. There is someone on Pre-loved Cloth Nappies FB group who's selling four large rikki wraps for 12 quid, all in. Such a bargain!!!

fudge74 · 09/10/2012 21:47

Well girls, managed three out of my 5 jobs yesterday, and made no further progress today! Those photobox albums took AGES!
I'm in Liverpool. Been dry here all day today and yesterday.
I have an airer that winches up to the ceiling, which is great as it is out of the way, and catching the warmer air. When the heating is on, all nappies usually dry in 24 hrs.
BFG if the fudge works, please share link to recipe!
WRT using cloth while potty training, I remember it was no problem with DS1, he just asked for no nappies one day. With DS2 they started him off at nursery. It may be worth starting to use paper liners that don't leave them feeling so dry, which means they notice more when they have had a wee and actually feel the wetness.
I've still got a stinking cold, but DD has not got me up for the last two nights running bless her. Lets hope for a good one tonight as I go to A GIG tomorrow - George Michael (my embarrasing secret is out!!!) Blush so what - I've loved him since I was 10 and have never seen him live! [sadly excited].

PurplePidjin · 09/10/2012 21:55

Fudge, i managed 4 1/2 out of 5 but the 1/2 was ripping up the spare room carpet so quite a big half!

Pissing it down here, and no sign of it stopping. I shall make dp do the tip run in his lunch break as payment for nicking the car all day on Thursday i think (he normally cycles)

My prefolds dry in less than 24 hours on a standard airer in an unheated but well insulated room. Is that normal for flats though? My various fitteds weren't much behind...

LeBFG · 10/10/2012 09:05

Fudge, is the fudge recipe. I found the woman kinda kooky funny. Looks like she's made a lot of fudge in her life. And the recipe works - yay!! It wasn't too onerous and also passed the taste tests with flying colours. So I'm about to stock up on condensed milk today. I'm also v jealous of your gig date. I feel so old! I can't even remember the last time I went to a pub.

Those wheely ceiling air dryers are great aren't they. I like the look of the Lakeland electric one and they only charge 7.50 for delivery, so I'll probably get that for when the weather turns.

It's pretty miserable cycling in the rain PP. Is there anything else he's done to merit it? My DH is coming home for lunch - doesn't want sandwiches...and nothing hot. And not said what he does want. I feel like giving him a punch on the nose instead

ValiumQueen · 10/10/2012 09:20

'Just fudge yourself!'. What a bizarre woman Grin That is proper fudge though. Proper stuff. I am actually eating some at this precise moment as mum brought some home made stuff around last night. Yes, it survived the night! It will not be here for another though!

Never into George Michael, more of a Simon Le Bon girl myself. I still hate Yasmin for stealing him from me. DH looked like George when he was younger. Now he looks like Shrek.

LeBFG · 10/10/2012 11:36

You should see her vid on millionaire's shortbread. She goes on and on about bing 'naughty, really naughty' Grin.

DH doesn't look like anyone famous. I feel left out.

ValiumQueen · 10/10/2012 11:43

If you have an iPhone there is an app you can download, and it will tell you if there is anyone he vaguely resembles.

PurplePidjin · 10/10/2012 12:00

Just been his usual fab self, BFG :)

Dp looks like Edgar Davids the footballer, but with better taste in glasses!

fudge74 · 10/10/2012 18:52

purple well done on your jobs - you will have that nursery sorted in no time. Naan dough - i'm impressed - i'd love to be able to make my own naan! pre-folds dry nice and quick as there is no elastic gathering the cloth into thicker layers. my booster pads dry pretty quick.

bfg what did you have for lunch? hope you did not need to vent too much?? I love cycling, and don't mind the rain as long as i'm going home!

valium do you come from the days when you had to choose btweeen WHAM and DURAN DURAN? those were the days....eh?

my dh looks like JK, or John Hurt depending on how much sleep he's had!!

i'm going to look at that recipe tmrw, just gettin dd to sleep then i'm off to town Grin

oh - my parcel arrived from china today - three alva pocket nappies - they are so cute Grin Grin

Kazriina · 11/10/2012 13:10

Why is every single reusable I use leaky?! I have a selection of fuzzis, tots bots easy fit/bamboozle, smartipants, lollipop, and eBay cheepies! The worse being the lollipop it leaked in the centre of the crotch Hmm only started full time this week and all have been pre washed to get upto max absorbency but just leak leak leak!

My baby is pretty chunky and I'm worried about doing it up too tight but it's never loose iyswim.

Any ideas?

LeBFG · 11/10/2012 13:12

Are they all all-in-ones? I use two-parters and the wrap makes a huge difference to whether a nappy leaks or not.
