These are cool. Like the essay map a lot.Thanks.

fluffystabby · 05/11/2011 16:51

I like the essay map too - it really helped me be concise in what I wanted to make my main points instead of waffling iyswim?

wildstrawberryplace · 05/11/2011 17:22

winny, not started yet of course. Got tonight once DC in bed, tomorrow night and then Monday morning and evening.

How's your TMA going? I got mine back, I think I chose the wrong course! Mark not bad but at the lower end of my expectation. I chose it because I thought it would force me into writing have wanted to a writer since I was four, but too scared to just do it I think I'm going to find it difficult putting myself up for constructive criticism every TMA. Plus side is, tutor used the word subtle twice in her commentary so hopefully it wasn't as purple as I had feared.

When people post on the forums "Got my mark back for TMA01, I'm really pleased with it Wink", that's basically them saying they got a pass 1, right? Then the code for pass 2 is "not bad, better than I expected" etc.

Did someone say malteser slice? Surely no such evil deliciousness exists in heaven or earth!

wildstrawberryplace · 05/11/2011 17:23

Oops I posted mid-edit.

fluffystabby · 05/11/2011 17:33

Malteser slice

8oz crushed digestives
2tbsp syrup
8oz maltesers
6oz milk choc
4oz butter
14oz milk choc or white choc

melt butter, first milk choc and syrup.

add crushed digestives and maltersers

mix well

put in swiss roll tin and level top

cover with melted 2nd lot of choc

and enjoy Grin

mustdash · 05/11/2011 18:02

So no actual essay, but some very thorough mind map-ish type pages of notes, and I've decided that I'm going to the fireworks with DCs and DH. Planning etc etc.

Mars bar slices are in the fridge and will be devoured in front of X Factor when we get back.

Social Constructionism will make much more sense with some of that and a couple of Wine on board.

fluffystabby · 05/11/2011 18:09

My friend swears the best essays she ever wrote she wrote the night before with vodka on-board Grin

Prolesworth · 05/11/2011 18:12

Feeling a bit envious of those of you doing creative writing. Are the TMAs quite structured? Do you have to share your freewriting with others?

wildstrawberryplace · 05/11/2011 18:52

proles the TMAs are structured, and you have to write a commentary afterwards to demonstrate that you have applied the techniques discussed in the coursebook (for eg using tips/techniques from people as diverse as Virginia Woolf, Somerset Maugham, Ursula Leguin, Kazuo Ishiguro yada yada). It's much more about the craft of writing than than the intrinsic qualities of it as far as I can see so far. I think it is a decent course so far. That rating may improve as I get further into it.

fluffystabby · 05/11/2011 19:03

Malteser slice is better than mars bar slice. FACT. I have made it with all kinds of biscuits - rich tea are nice, it's only to crush and mix with the syrup (which I have been known to slightly over-measure)

They are absolutely the best tray bake ever. And I make a lot of traybakes. thus why I am the size of the side of a bus

Did I mention aero squares?

Fudge fingers?

Crunchie bars?

Marshmallow squares?

Lantern traybake?

Grin
winnybella · 05/11/2011 20:17

Marshmallow squares recipe, please! Mmmm....I love marshmallows. Does it involve rice krispies, though? Can't get them in bloody Paris.

WSP- oh, yes, I love the posters on the OU forum saying ' I am distinctively happy with my mark' Hmm The whole ban on mentioning your results is silly- I mean I can see it aims at no one feeling left behind/stupid etc etc, but since people find a way around it anyway...I'm all for posting our marks on here (if any one wants to, of course) I could do with a bit of competitiveness to motivate me

Anyway, don't feel discouraged. If there was some good stuff in the feedback ('subtle' is excellent Grin) then that's great. The point is to assimilate all the useful techniques and get better- talent is just a part of it. Of course I daydream about the tutor returning my story with a 'Shock You're the next Nabokov' Grin and I'll be very disappointed with my 55% or whatever I'll get, but hey...

Proles- yeah, it seems to be a good course, if you actually can manage to apply yourself.

Ok, I better start on another freewrite. Argh. I've a christening to go to tomorrow, so won't have time to write during the day. Argh.

wildstrawberryplace · 05/11/2011 21:00

Oh crap. At that stage of the evening where I am trying to decide if it is best to drink lots of Brew and attempt work, or whether to do dishes/put wash on/try to not let house into tip again, but then end up somehow frittering the time away and watching youtube and MNing until its too late.

fluffystabby I reckon you can't beat mars bar slice, esp if you make the topping with a mixture of milkybar and milka daim with salted butter.

winnybella · 05/11/2011 21:07

Lots of Brew and work, definitely.

I'm having lots of Wine, strangely it doesn't seem to help Hmm

fluffystabby · 06/11/2011 11:48

Please come and weep and hold my hand

here

NEEDY WAIL

mustdash · 06/11/2011 12:27

Nightmare. Sad Have some chocolate. And maybe some Brew, but definitely no Wine yet.

Fingers crossed you can recover it all.

I now resolve to back up all my work as I go along, into a cloud despite it being an irritating hassle, instead of crossing my fingers.

fluffystabby · 06/11/2011 12:29

Exactly mustdash - I know I should but I was on a roll the last couple of days.

Thankfully it's just the screen so it should be easy enough to sort but still the stress has me tearing my hair out.

and The Upgrade nearly got downgraded when he started his oh you should have backed up on to a flash drive don't you back up shite talk

winnybella · 06/11/2011 17:06

Oh, damn, what a nightmare, fluffy Sad Hope you got it sorted.

WSP-how's work on NA going?

MoreSpamThanGlam · 06/11/2011 17:09

Can I join this group? i have 3 essays next week to do (reading week). 2 hospital appointments, one dentist appointment and a stack of reading to do on Adam Smith and Karl Marx. sob....
7500 words to do by next Friday.

wildstrawberryplace · 06/11/2011 19:02

winny nothing yet. Can you get an extension for no reason other than being stressed and not having childcare in place (ie DH away)?

winnybella · 07/11/2011 00:07

Welcome, MSTG Smile

WSP-yes, I think so, they are usually very understanding.

I was supposed to write the story today, but we had to go to a christening, then my father called out of the blue, came here and just left half an hour ago.

So I've done nothing and I have to send it in tomorrow-no chances of any further extensions for me.

Oh, and DD is having a spectacular case of diarrhoea, so I probably will not send her to the nursery tomorrow. I am fucked.

winnybella · 07/11/2011 18:51

How's everyone doing?

wildstrawberryplace · 08/11/2011 10:06

Extension here. Still can't get going though...
