Yay well done winny Smile

I got 80. My piece got marked down because there wasn't any "action". Turns out, there is such a thing as too understated. For my next one I think someone will get murdered or something Grin.

winnybella · 15/11/2011 21:31

But 80's very good. What did you get for the story?

Hmm. There wasn't a lot of action in mine, either. I also think that as much as tutors are capable of being objective and following the guidelines, personal taste matters as well perhaps. 'Action' Hmm I love reading books where nothing ever happens Grin

But it's still very good. I thought you got 30 or something for your story from your initial reaction. Meh, I think pass 1-2 is good, you can't please everybody and also if there's stuff we need to work on, then that's fine. Imagine if we got 100%-what a waste of money this course would be Grin Well, at least for me as I'm paying extortionate Continental prices Hmm

But at retrofitting the freewrite. Naugthy Grin

winnybella · 15/11/2011 21:59

Shock that is

wildstrawberryplace · 15/11/2011 22:23

Well, it was a genuine freewrite, but kind of focused on the bit of tat I was going to submit. Needs must as deadlines loom etc.

winnybella · 15/11/2011 22:27

Yes, yes, needs must, agree.

I've got a half a chapter in the coursebook, at least five Katherine Mansfield short stories and 3 critics to read and a tma to write before Friday midnight.

Here we go again Hmm

winnybella · 17/11/2011 22:55

Oh, look, 24 hrs to go and not a word written. Surprise surprise Hmm

schroeder · 18/11/2011 13:39

How's it going today Winny?

I have yet to make a start on mine in fact I've barely looked at the stuff all week.

I'm not sure I've settled into this course yet. meh

Prolesworth · 18/11/2011 15:34

FWIW schroeder, I found the representation 'rooooom' by far the driest part of the whole course. It gets much more exciting after this one (imho).

schroeder · 18/11/2011 18:22

I'm hanging on your every word proles. Grin Dry? it's mind numbing!

Never mind, it's a step up from Olney Hymns at least.

OP posts:
wildstrawberryplace · 18/11/2011 19:42

Ah the old Olney Hymns, good times Hmm

wildstrawberryplace · 20/11/2011 12:03

winny what happened? Did you finish OK?

winnybella · 20/11/2011 12:06

Nope, got extension. Need to finish by tomorrow. Am feeling uninspired, to the least.

winnybella · 20/11/2011 12:06

to say

wildstrawberryplace · 20/11/2011 14:17

Is it 20c fic you're doing now? I was toying with the idea of that one, or the Shakespeare. I should have done Shakespeare I reckon... ah well. Back to boring grindstone.

Good luck with yours.

Melty · 20/11/2011 23:50

May I join you.
Doing an online MSc in Clinical Education.
Module 1 essay 3000-5000 words. Have 800 (min) words to go. Due in tomorrow.
Highly skilled in procrastination.

Persephoney · 21/11/2011 10:18

Can I join this party? In year 2 of 2 MA Translation (Bristol - but distance learning so I never have to go there). This part-time course regularly takes up 40 hours of my time each week. That's 3 hours MORE than my full time job. And I have three children. You'd think I'd be too busy to procrastinate but you'd be wrong.

Currently putting off the writing up of my very carefully constructed, detailed 4 page presentation plan into something I would actually be happy for other people to read. My course is all peer-reviewed and you're marked on how well you interact with course mates and lead discussions via a messageboard so I'm telling myself that time on MN is actually honing my internet communication skills.

schroeder · 22/11/2011 20:01

Not much procrastination on here at the mo, where is everyone?

I am in deep pre TMA gloom, I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do? The question is so big and vague-I'm sensing a theme on this module for vagueness and I am not keen.

The question refers to 'early ideas about leadership', but I cannot find any other reference to it, so am not exactly sure which ideas I should catogorise as early or not? Obviously Pericles and his fellow pre-christians, but where to draw the line?

Hello everyone Smile (pitiful attempt not to seem too self obsessed)

Prolesworth · 22/11/2011 21:11

'early ideas about leadership'

Confused

last year's question was "How do theories of democracy help us to understand the role of modern political leaders?"

wildstrawberryplace · 22/11/2011 21:21

Hello to Persephoney and Melty!

Blimey schroeder I don't like the sound of that, far too vague for me Confused

I'm procrastinating alright - today I moved a pile of CDs that I know for a fact have been there for since before last Christmas and boxed them alphabetically.

schroeder · 22/11/2011 21:21

Hi proles I've emailed my tutor, because I just cannot answer the question unless I understand what is meant by 'early'.

Am very much missing indexes and glossaries this year.

How is everyone else doing? Some of those word counts are pretty scary. Shock

OP posts:
Prolesworth · 22/11/2011 21:34

I'm guessing 'early' means 'pre-modern' - anything up to the French Rev then (ish)? Good idea to seek clarification from the tutor. Oh that block is woolly Confused

schroeder · 22/11/2011 21:58

That sounds reasonable, they do bang on about 'mass industrial soceties' so yes that would make early 'pre French revolution or industrial revolution'. It's just such a huge time span, it feels weird that Pericles and Machiavelli are in a chronological group together. Confused

I have done some cracking procrastination this evening. DP out at the football so given that he wants to take me out for dinner tomorrow I thought I'd better crack on this evening. So far I have had a 35 minute shower, watched three episodes of Desperate Housewives and deepcleaned the kitchen. I then opened a Word document and wrote the title, then thought..."ooooh, I'll just have a quick check on MN..." and here I am.
