Knickers in bed

I'm a lone (male) parent to DD of 3.6. She's been out of nappies at night for about a good month or so now, and a lady of my acquaintance told me she should be wearing knickers at night.

So. Should DD wear knickers in bed along with her pyjamas?

Personally, I can't see any point in it as it's just another thing for her to remember to remove when she uses the potty in the night.

GOML - I don't think you are mad, I'd love clean sheets every day, but I just don't have the energy for it! (I only have duvet covers as I hate top sheets and it's too much faff!). If I suddenly had loads of money I'd pay someone to change the beds daily & iron the linen!!

Keep the boys sitting down as long as you can - it makes life a LOT cleaner easier.

tabulahrasa · 13/02/2011 20:56

boohooyou - it's probably not a fantastic idea to sit down to pee at school, other than that, whenever he's tall enough and wants to, lol

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 20:56

Even DH was disgusted, GetOrf, and he's fairly slatternly.

'Ach, can you imagine that bed is probably hoaching with beasties.'

Eewwww.

Josie, you're (and others are) reading as unmeaningful posts which are attempting to be non inflammatory. No offence, but there's a difference there iyswim.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 13/02/2011 20:58

Try doing a ski season where the young staff don't change their sheets all season (6 months) and have all and sundry kipping (or not kipping!!) in them!!! GRIM.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 20:59

Oh god no I don't do top sheets, chipping, and I don't iron.

I have loads of sheets so a week or so in a hot airing cupboard gets rids of the creases. I am not ironing bedding.

But - it takes minutes to change, just rip the sheets off first thing in the morning and put them into wash. Then put clean sheets on the bed just before I get in it at nighttime. Takes 5-10 minutes or so.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 21:00

No.

No

They don't change the sheets all season?

DD wants to do a season as a chalet girl. I will make sure she changes the sheets Grin

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 21:01

I don't do top sheets or ironing, either, but there was one memorably slattern who didn't even change the sheets between houseguests!

AintMissBeehiving · 13/02/2011 21:02

My MIL doesn't bother to change sheets inbetween guests

OnlyWantsOne · 13/02/2011 21:14

Expat - my DP had same response. Grim.

OnlyWantsOne · 13/02/2011 21:16

Aintmissbehaving - this would justify NEVER staying there ever again. Nasty.

Boohooyou · 13/02/2011 21:19

expat do you change the duvet covers as often or just the sheets?

AintMissBeehiving · 13/02/2011 21:21

It's gross. I've found mascara on the pillow before now. Shock

These days we take our own sheets, change the bed and then the following morning I insist on putting the sheets that I took off the bed the night before in the washing machine. At least I know then that the next guest will have a clean bed.

savoycabbage · 13/02/2011 21:25

I was once having a discussion with my friends when one of them revealed that she sorted her washing out according to people.

So she washed all of her ds's clothes together and all of her dd's together etc.

Her Mother had done that and she had no idea that it was utter madness until this conversation. It's not something you really talk about, catagories of washing.

It's the same with this, you don't ask people if they wear knickers in bed.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 13/02/2011 21:34

No, the vast majority don't change their sheets all season & have several bed mates - urghghghghgh

So, GOML, do you only change the bottom sheet every day or do you change the duvet cover as well?

There is nothing like freshly ironed bed linen Grin

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 21:36

Can you imagine sleeping in the same sheets for 6 months? I would cry.

Change sheets, pillowcase and duvet covers every day.

ChippingInAuntyToThomas · 13/02/2011 21:59

They don't have to!! They have (admittedly limited & sometimes difficult) access to washing machines :) They'd just prefer to be out skiing or drinking! The ones that really get me are the ones working in chalets with washing machines and dryers - absolutely no excuse! grim grim grim.

I'd love it done daily, but twice weekly is as often as I can muster up the enthusiasm.

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 23:06

No, Boohoo, I'm not as extreme (or energetic) as GOML, I only change the sheets (pillow covers and duvet covers) once a week.

I do, however, turn the mattresses once a month and hoover them once a month.

6 months? The smell would put me off and kipping on a train seat would probably be cleaner.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 13/02/2011 23:19

Well reading this thread has made me feel like a right scuzzer. Its no knickers under PJ's in this house - PJ's changed every few days (depending if they pass the sniff test Shock Shock Shock Grin)

candleshoe · 13/02/2011 23:20

You're all mad - for children sheets once a week or even once a fortnight is perfectly fine - same nightie/pjs for a week is fine -no pants in bed is fine too. I really hope you lot never have to go through serious financial hrdship or a war or some catastrophe - you would clearly never cope without your repressed need for clean knickers and clean sheets. Are you ocd btw? If so, then humble apologies.

IDoAllMyOwnStunts · 13/02/2011 23:21

Ahh Candleshoe glad its not just me Grin

candleshoe · 13/02/2011 23:23

I can smell you from here IDo! Grin

adamschic · 13/02/2011 23:27

To the OP we are knickers on in this house. Find it a bit drafty without, no thrush problems either. Mainly wear nightdresses but even when it's cold enough for pj's would rather wash knicks than pj bottoms everyday.

Also love clean sheets but only change them once every two weeks. No men sweating like pigs so atm.

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 23:27

No, not OCD. And, well, we're not in war right now. You can wash clothes in cold water it's not expensive, you know?

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 23:28

FWIW I have been through serious financial hardship and personal issues and I have no idea what the hell that has got to do with clean clothes - of course clean sheets aren't the be all and end all, but I don't think posts like yours candleshoe are appropriate or relevant.

And no I haven't got OCD and if you think OCD is just about someone having to have clean sheets that is rather insulting to those who have OCD.

Lots of competitive poverty on MN - and competitive scumbags as well.
