Knickers in bed

I'm a lone (male) parent to DD of 3.6. She's been out of nappies at night for about a good month or so now, and a lady of my acquaintance told me she should be wearing knickers at night.

So. Should DD wear knickers in bed along with her pyjamas?

Personally, I can't see any point in it as it's just another thing for her to remember to remove when she uses the potty in the night.

I am still not sure what has narked reality?

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 20:28

I have nothing to apologise for IMO, IB, because I don't find anything upsetting in pointing out what I did, not knowing that poster has a health condition and then her voluntarily pointing that out.

I think it's probably a good idea to grow a thick skin on here.

Yes, it's your opinion.

That's what this board is about.

At any rate, it's detracting from the point at hand, which is that JuJus seems to have attracted rather negative attention because he is a male posting this question, which I find quite sad.

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 20:29

Nor am I, Northern!

Spill it, Reality!

It's a perfectly reasonable question and I agree that JuJusDad's not a troll. Ever since she found out that her best friend wears knickers in bed my DD (10) will go to bed in knickers & a pyjama top / nightie, but normally end up in just knickers.

To be fair, though, there was a perv around a while ago who kept starting threads about what people's kids wore in bed - I remember Mumsnet kicking them off - so it's understandable that some people will be cautious.

usualsuspect · 13/02/2011 20:29

Its personal preference really ..I don't think theres a need to wear knickers under nightwear but if you want to its fine too

mousymouse · 13/02/2011 20:31

I always wear knickers at night and my dc as well. for me sleeping without would be odd.
but I have to admit that I make sure we only have pure cotton ones.

Bumpsadaisie · 13/02/2011 20:31

No - its good for them to get a bit of an airing overnight!

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 20:31

Up to you Expat, maybe it's an American thing to do with posting manner. Something that seems rude here might well be fine over there, and vice versa.

Not getting involved in the question over the OP, because I don't know him, and I know posters who do know him, and I just don't want to get into it all...others know more than I do.

without wanting to sound funny. I think the thread should be abandoned before it gets more intractably difficult.

Over and out.

'Up to you Expat, maybe it's an American thing to do with posting manner. Something that seems rude here might well be fine over there, and vice versa.'

Oh, yes, it's because of nationality Hmm. Substitute another nationality in and see how that sounds. And that's not offensive. LOL.

I've been posting here for 6 years and living here for 10. I don't use American forums, either.

So maybe it's just you, IB, because no one else seems bothered.

NorthernGobshite · 13/02/2011 20:40

I wasn't having a pop reality, genuinely interested as to why you were concerned.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 20:41

I don't wear knickers to bed (don't wear anything) and when dd was little she never wore knickers under her PJs. Didn't think about cleanliness as she had clean PJs on every day anyhow.

I think it is personal preference - nowt wrong with wearing knickers to bed, nowt wrong wth going commando.

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 20:41

Only the person you were speaking to at the time, who has now left the thread.

I suggested the cultural divide because it does exist IME and I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. But you know that.

I've better things to do than fight about this, anyway. You can choose to be offended if you wish; no offence was intended.

Boohooyou · 13/02/2011 20:42

No knickers.

expat
so what age do they stand up ?
Single mum to ds 2 1/2 and was wondering when he should stand to wee !

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 20:42

And, I'll have you know, GetOrf is a girl after my own heart as far as sheet changing goes! :)

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 20:43

Bye then, IB.

Boohoo, I have no idea, and DH isn't here to ask just now.

My wee man is only 2, however.

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 20:44

when ever he seems to want to, Boo. Mine is 3.7 and stil prefers to either sit or use a small bucket while standing!

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 20:46

and ds1 didn't stand till he was about 4/5, as he wasn't tall enough for 'it' to reach over the edge..

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 20:46

Grin - you are the only one expat, eveyrone else thinks I am mad (including my friends and family)

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 20:48

You are not mad, GetOrf, you are a clean, tidy person, especially compared to that poster who'd had the same sheets on her bed for 6 months Shock. I'll never forget that.

Minging!

Boohooyou · 13/02/2011 20:48

Ok thanks, maybe I should start another thread about it.

but I can't be arsed Grin

I know people in rl aswell so I'll ask around !

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 20:49

Real life? Shock

don't talk about that here whatever you do Grin

Boohooyou · 13/02/2011 20:52

It's ok, not many people on here know about it anyway ! Grin
They will just be confused and won't understand the reference !

Longtalljosie · 13/02/2011 20:54

"i have seen posts from you before about this sort of thing"

Well, yeah I'd imagine you have. As a male single parent these sorts of girl-specific things would be the sorts of things he'd seek female advice on. What a pity people are being so weird about it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 20:54

Grin - that thread was great: me and you shrieking about the filthy mingers, 85 other mumsnetters saying 'you don't need to change your sheets often, think of the environment.

Grin

6 months I couldn;t do 6 days.
