Knickers in bed

I'm a lone (male) parent to DD of 3.6. She's been out of nappies at night for about a good month or so now, and a lady of my acquaintance told me she should be wearing knickers at night.

So. Should DD wear knickers in bed along with her pyjamas?

Personally, I can't see any point in it as it's just another thing for her to remember to remove when she uses the potty in the night.

DH just wears his boxers. I wear my knickers and, depending on the season (this is a cold climate), PJs or a camisole top.

BitOfFun · 13/02/2011 19:35

I think that if I were the single dad of a little girl, I would prefer to be told if what I was saying was making me come across as prurient or odd.

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 19:38

Well yes but I didn't find it that odd.

haven't seen him posting much though, and I don't know him myself.

Who knows.

If one of us had posted the same question though would we be considered prurient?

Fathers do have to deal with their daughters' underwear related issues, especially if they are single. That doesn't make them odd or anything.

bellavita · 13/02/2011 19:39

Op you are the parent, you decide.

BitOfFun · 13/02/2011 19:40

I think Reality described why it sounded odd well enough.

Seona1973 · 13/02/2011 19:42

mine dont wear knickers with nightclothes and me and dh sleep naked

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 19:42

Fair enough...should we report it?

BitOfFun · 13/02/2011 19:43

No- I don't think there is any malice intended. As said, OP is well-known to some. I think that pointing this out to him might be useful to him though, which is why I mentioned it.

Seona1973 · 13/02/2011 19:43

report it for what exactly?

RedHeels · 13/02/2011 19:44

Eh? Prurient? Odd? Queasy? Why? Cause he's a bloke? Don't get what is off about the OP's question, if I were him I would be a bit put out by the responses.

I'd say no knickers. Grown ups wear them sometimes under their PJs because of their (grown up) discharge. Since children don't have that, there's no need to protect the PJs or otherwise wash them everyday. Is that prurient too? Confused Facts of life and all that.

nickytwotimes · 13/02/2011 19:45

I don't think it is odd really. God knows the questions asked on here cover pretty wide ground! Grin

Anyhoo, ds1 (Not A Girl) does wear pants under his jammies. So do I. You get extra wear out them that way, ime.

abdnhiker · 13/02/2011 19:46

Expat - as someone who's struggled with yeast infections - it's not a myth. If you don't have problems then cotton pants are completely fine but for me they make things worse.

BitOfFun · 13/02/2011 19:46

I mean, there is absolutely no suspicion of trolling. But it might be worth him considering that asking people about his daughter's knickers in real life or here, when it is not a difficult thing to work out for yourself (and adding a reference to him being naked) will probably not put him in a good light and can make people feel uncomfortable about him. That is all.

nickytwotimes · 13/02/2011 19:48

it doesn't make me uncomfortable and god knows most things do!

i would be offended if i were the op, tbh.

candleshoe · 13/02/2011 19:49

Eww pants in bed - how grim!
And how inhibited!

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 19:49

Then you need to see a nutritionist, too, hiker, about your digestive system and how you can use diet to control candida levels in your body.

But wearing cotton knickers doesn't cause yeast infections as the vagina is a self-cleansing orifice, high levels of candida in the body do.

RedHeels · 13/02/2011 19:49

And what's wrong with airing? My 11 week old DD is on her mat now "airing" her bits (for the lack of a better word), as she's all day in her nappies often wet and what not and it's nice for the skin to breathe a little.

Portofino · 13/02/2011 19:49

No - no knickers needed. I know OP is known in person by MNetters and not hairy handed trucker...

expatinscotland · 13/02/2011 19:50

'Eww pants in bed - how grim!
And how inhibited!'

Eeww, no pants in bed - how filthy.

Here's a newsflash for you: running around naked doesn't make you an uninhibited person. That comes from inside.

AintMissBeehiving · 13/02/2011 19:51

Doesn't make me uncomfortable either. Thinking about it I think I might have mentioned IRL Shock that my DS1 (6) refuses to wear clothes on bed at all. Does that make me a perv?

IngridBergmann · 13/02/2011 19:51

Yes but Expat there's no point in someone making things symptomatically worse while she awaits the effect of any dietary measures, is there.

Maybe she has tried all that, too...maybe she has some other reason for this. It's not our business to tell her what to do.

nickytwotimes · 13/02/2011 19:52

jesus, most people's fanny/willy will be fine regardless.

airing - do you hang it out a window on a windy day? Grin

abdnhiker · 13/02/2011 19:55

Expat I've seen gynes about it and it has been one of their recommendations I'm not going to discuss it further because you're obviously convinced you are an expert. Ingridbermann thank you for the support, I'm glad it's not just me noticing that expat seems to be attacking me. Anyways I'm not interested in hijacking this thread so j won't return and read any more posts. Sorry to the op.

mamalovesmojitos · 13/02/2011 20:00

I have never heard of not wearing knickers with pjs. Actually never, but i supppose i've never had a conversation with somebody in rl about it. I just presumed everyone wore knickers all the time! I learn something new every day. Don't see anything wrong with op's post btw.
