Hes soooooo gorgeous and hes all mine! I'm on such a high right now, don't know how long it'll last though.

I didn't have to be induced, I didn't even have to wait till my due date a healthy baby and no stitches! I'm ecstatic! The relief of it all being over is wonderful. Now I'm going to concentrate on remembering every last detail of his face before this stage passes away too.

Come on Cha and Ailsa!

well done you two! mine hasn't done it atgain, he is back to going down at 6, waking at 1 or 2 for a quick 20min feed (of about 8oz!) and then off until 7 or 8.
Which I'm not complaining about really, but it would be nice if he'd drop that 1am feed again!

adell · 08/11/2003 12:27

I had down at 6, quick feed 2ish, up just before 7. Do you think they'll give us all sleeping right through as Christmas presents ?!

EmmaTMG · 08/11/2003 13:03

AHHHHHHHHHH I can't listen (well read but YKWIM)to this.
James had a bottle at about 10pm then again at 2:50am and another little bit at 4am and then again at 6:30am so we're nowhere near sleeping through here.

I'm insanely jealous of yo ladies!

you ladies even

musica · 08/11/2003 13:24

Can I just intrude on your thread for a minute, to ask, how much sleep do your babies get in the day? Dd was born beginning of August, and she has 2 naps in the day, but she doesn't go to bed until 10 or 10:30 in the evening, and then she will usually wake up at 7ish (although it has to be said, last night was 4?). I'm amazed your younger babies are going from 6 or 7 with only 1 waking. Do you think it could be because she is napping more in the day?

Hope all's going well with you all!

EmmaTMG · 08/11/2003 14:34

Blimey, I just had a quick read through the Nov/Dec babies thread and felt a real pang(is that a real word?) of sadness that I'm not still PG. Obviously I'm so utterly in love and happy with James but I just realised how much I love and miss being PG.
Very sad that I won't experience it again

WideWebWitch · 08/11/2003 14:36

Emma, yep, pang is a real word but blimey, are you mad??!!! Wish I could swap with you and have a new one while you were still pregnant...Can't read too much of this thread, the sleeplessness scares me, well done all of you.

princesspeahead · 09/11/2003 18:54

well the little darling did it again last night, down at 6, awake at 6. which was just as well as i threw a dinner party last night, they didn't leave until after midnight and I REALLY didn't want a night feed on top of that!
musica, he is napping a little less in the day than he did - after the 6 or 7am feed he sleeps until 8,then he has about 45 mins later on in the morning, and then an hour and a half or so at about 1 or 2ish, and then generally doesn't really sleep again (or catches a quick 20mins or so in his bouncy chair at about 4 or so).

but I really don't think it is anything I'm doing, we have a thick lazy streak in our family - I am USELESS unless I have 8 hours sleep and pref 10, and my dd slept through consistently for 12 hr stints from 7 weeks too - I really do think it is mostly the luck of the draw.

wiltshire · 10/11/2003 17:12

PPP, you are so lucky my DS is bang on every 3 hours. What is really disheartening is that the 3 am feed last night was only for 1.5oz. He didnn't want anymore, he just wanted to play. I am like you in that I NEED 8 hours but 12 is better. Is everyone on plans here ie: easy or GF. he is sooo lovely though, I forgive him (not sure if I'll being saying this in another month though).

wiltshire · 10/11/2003 17:14

Oh and to add to yours Em, I too feel like that even though I hated being pg, just wanted a dolly to play with

Now I have one I would rather have some lego!!

ANGELMOTHER · 10/11/2003 18:07

Not on any plan here just praying that at some stage we work out the difference between night and day.
I brought dd1 to the cinema yesterday and had no ebm left so handed dh a carton of formula to try and she gobbled it down, no probs with this little ladies appetite
Having said that I felt a pang when I came home and saw her gulping it down, that's not my milk you should be screaming for MUMMY However it's good to know she'd take it if pushed, I don't think I'd give it to her any more than once a week.
I am determined to crack this sleep thing this week , dd1 slept through at 6 wks and having reached that point, I think dd2 is capable of it too.
This morning dh was here so left her in bed with him while I dropped dd1 to pre-school, expecting to hear hungry screams when I got back as she hadn't been fed since 5am. They were both panned on their backs and slept till 10:30, now I just have to make her do that at nighttime.
Becca did you get your figleaves order yet ???

princesspeahead · 10/11/2003 19:05

well he did the same as last time - the night after he sleeps through he gives me a hard time! last night he fed at 5.30, 11.00, 3.30 and 8. Yawn. He seems to need to stoke up with food after going without the night before. Lets hope he doesn't pull that one again tonight!

Not doing any "plan" as such. I just let him go with the flow, but try and get as much food as poss down his throat during the day (5 big feeds) and believe that the better they sleep in the day the better they sleep at night. And I never wake them once they are asleep which is where Gina and I differ terribly - she's always waking them up!

Beccarollo · 10/11/2003 22:51

Congratulations to all the long sleepers and comiserations for those little cherubs who arent catching on yet - touch wood harvey is consistently going down about 8.30 waking at 4 or 5 for feed then back down til 8. I can deal with this no problem at all so feel i can relax a little bit in the quest to sleep through (12 hours).

Angel - didnt end up ordering from figleaves, going to carry on with my not so nice nursing bras until Ive lost a bit more weight then might have smaller size to buy (hopefully) on the subject of weight loss lost another 0.5 pounds this week making 8.5 in total - didnt do as well this week due to drunken night out on saturday and hangover treats on sunday.....
......on the subject of night out, not sure if you read the thread but me and DP had first postHarvey shag and lo and behold didnt use anything and now Im stressing about possible pregnancy...
...on the subject of DP he has been rather a twat of late grrrrrr (dont know why I shagged him in the first place on saturday - should have saved myself the bother)

PHEW and thats my update :D

wiltshire · 11/11/2003 00:07

Just felt that I had to add that Me & DH had first bonk an'all. Was a bit pants as we used a condom. Haven't used one of those in a few years I must say. Neither has DH as it was still floating in the loo the next morning. They don't flush do they. Sorry if this is TMI, but I wanted to share.........

wiltshire · 11/11/2003 00:12

Getting back to important stuff, PPH so you think that it's okay for them to sleep all day. Mine does and I thought it would be better to wake him up so that he sleeps at night. However, apart from hanging him upside down from a chandelier, I am convinced that nothing wakes my baby. He simply, will not stay awake for anything unless it's feeding time or he has a dirty nappy. I feel somewhat comforted that you think that if they sleep well during day, it doesn't disturb their night sleep. Although he does seem to come alive at night. Any advice welcome!!

princesspeahead · 11/11/2003 22:27

ummmm, don't think I'd be too happy with sleeping all day and awake all night! I'd be a bit worried that he'd got the two mixed up. I think they should be awake for a while during the day, but I put him down as soon as he is sleepy, or if he is obviously unsettled and isn't hungry or windy. But some days he DOES sleep all day - especially in a growth spurt - and I let him.

But if he is looking to party at night, and you think he is confusing day and night, I'd try and entertain him to keep him awake quite a bit more during the day, and keep night feeds very dark and silent with as little eye contact as possible! ie very boring and sleepy and all about milk and nothing else. and also keep it dark, silent and in his usual room for the whole time that you are trying to settle him in between night feeds, and hope he starts turning his clock around....

princesspeahead · 11/11/2003 22:28

ps well done on the bonk! condoms are crap aren't they. i think I'm going for the mirena...

wiltshire · 14/11/2003 17:39

Mirena - to keep boats in?

I'm back again! Very poorly baby and badly behaved 3 year old have kept me off mumsnet for a while but I'm trying to catch up.
Alex's chicken pox went from bad to worse and after a particularly awful screaming session was taken down to the walk in centre. He is on antibiotics (the third lot I've been handed since he was born) and he is picking up a little bit. Ds2 behaviour is almost maddening and we have had to become very strict with him. His jealousy of Alex is out of control and we have to keep them apart. It has been a very tiring couple of weeks in all. On top of all that Alex still won't take his bottle and we've been trying to follow the E.A.S.Y plan which is hard to follow when I'm tired and I just want him to go sleep and stay there. Alex is still a little angel though its just his big brother who's causing the problems. I'm sure it will settle soon though. Oh and dh has quit smoking which means he won't allow the children near him for the foreseeable future. One things for sure I need a break!

Wow, I feel refreshed. Ladies I have just had my first undisturbed nights sleep in 7 weeks. No dd2 is not dreamily sleeping through the night, I moved into the spare room and left dh to cope for the first time as quite frankly was bl*y knackered.
Between dd1 and dd2, not forgetting the fact that dh is away alot at the mo, I was turning into a wreck. Therefore after the grump of a h who woke up on Friday night during one of the feeds to hear me grumbling about not being able to find dd's mouth (was sticking boob in her ear) he then proceeded to grumble at me AAAAAaaaaaaaarggghhh
I decided it was time to express and move into the spare room.
Try it ladies it feels great, except dd1 knew where I was and came straight to me at 8am, musn't complain though. I looked in the mirror and I don't have any bags this morning

Beccarollo · 16/11/2003 12:45

Hi

Bekki - alot of what you said about older sibling syndrome struck a chord with me - Megan isnt so much jealous of harvey as she is loving with me but I have had a hard time with her since harvey was about 2 weeks old - she seems very defiant and angry with me alot of the time, its bloody hard work! Looking after the baby is far easier but she seems to be getting a bit better.

Harvey is doing well, sleeping great most of the time, normally going down about 8 then going through til 5 or 6 then back down for a couple of hours.

Having a bit of a mare deciding what to do with feeding, Im not sure if my milk supply is low or if he is losing interest in the boob. He has had a fair few bottles the last couple of weeks as I have been out without him a few times and I have even been giving him the odd bottle. Im not ready to completely finsih breastfeeding but do like the flexibility of the bottles but the bottles just seem to be damaging my supply - Id love to know how you get mixed feeding to work properly!!

Congrats on the extra sleep angelmother - it makes such a difference just getting a few hours in doesnt it.

Bekki · 16/11/2003 20:52

This is true in our case Becca. Ds1 has been given alot of praise at playgroup for his behaviour and helpfulness, a big improvement on the Spring terms report. But with me he is quite hateful at times and is saying some horrible things to dh. Ds1 seems to love his brother but every now and again he does something spiteful and often dangerous to ds2, which comes out of the blue. I don't know how to handle it, I've tried everything. I can't give him any more time, attention or praise than I already am doing. I may have to embarass myself and ask the playgroup leaders for advice. Oh god I might as well put a label on my head saying 'useless mother'. Nevermind a year from now none of this will matter, I hope.
