How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

I said that I wouldn't ask David to look out for him if you didn't want me to.

Honestly vaunda... I really just want to meet you!

WewaldWiwaffe · 12/09/2005 00:44

No Mars- please do meet Karl- i want to know more about this intriguing character!

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:44

Vaunda - I think it was your rather ill thought out comment about SN children not nessecarily 'looking' like they had SN....

Mars you want to meet me not the other way around so you do the travelling. I am not in dire need to meet anyone. Silver Buckle Camberwell Green can't miss it it is the big pub on the corner opposite the doctors which used to be natwest bank.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:45

QoQ how is that ill thought out it is true.

soapbox · 12/09/2005 00:46

Maybe she'll bring him along to the meet-up

steffee · 12/09/2005 00:46

Vaunda - I thought you took your ds everywhere you went?

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:46

why do you feel the need to meet me mars, not that i have any problem with it. As for travelling to meet you i don;t do public transport

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:47

Steffe not when he is in school i don;t

jampots · 12/09/2005 00:47

didnt that used to be a 70's kids programme - bit like Trumpton

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 00:47

yes but Vaunda my lovely I have to be back for school pickup. If you don't want to meet that's fine.

Also, not quite sure how to take your insinuation that David means Karl any harm.

Hey ho............ I just thought that the middle of London would be a good compromise. Maybe I'll arrange to visit my sister and do the pick up and meet you then. I'll be the one with the small twins. Not sure when though as I have a year 6 child and lots of open days to do.

Are you sure you won't meet me in town?

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:48

you don't do public transport??

" By Vaunda on Thursday, 8 September, 2005 12:25:08 PM

WewaldWiwaffe · 12/09/2005 00:48

Soapbox-

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:49

Mars i don't travel into the middle of london alone ok. I have my reasons and I cannot budge on it.

WewaldWiwaffe · 12/09/2005 00:49

QoQ-

At last your habit comes in handy!

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:49

QoQ yes but i will be met i don;t travel alone for reasons known to my family and i alone.

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:50
  • you see I'm annoying for a reason
WewaldWiwaffe · 12/09/2005 00:50

but weren't you coming to the meetup?

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:50

www, yes and i will not travel alone.

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:50

ermmm - what's different about getting the bus to meet MarsLadys during the DAY.

And getting a bus to meet a whole group of MN'ers at NIGHT???

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 00:51

shall we just agree to meet at the meetup then? I can understand your fear of public transport what with the bombings and all.

Town is better for me cos I have to be back for the big kids and I can get there easily with the twins, but I'll just hold on to my curiosity until the meet up. I promise to be nice. Sad that you can't/won't travel though

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:51

QoQ maybe you have not seen the fact that i wont travel alone during any part of the day on public transport.

DEjags, It is terrible that people don't ask first before commenting. When DS first started in reception class at school i had to get 2 buses to get him there, every morning i was challenged by the driver for proof of his age. I was so glad when i moved closer to his school and had no need to get a bus. lol

sparklymieow · 12/09/2005 00:52

I won't travel into central london alone either, scary place!!

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:52

but you're going to the Meet up - on the bus????
