How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

  • this is fun.........but I really should stop eating pumpkin seeds and getting drunk at the same time.....poor DH was knackered when he went to be nearly 2hrs ago and I don't think he'd appreciate me waking him up

do you not think I have a nephew vaunda? Or do you doubt that I have family at all? Not quite sure............ trust me though, I have a large family and we live all over London. Mum had 5 you see.... and we don't all live within spitting distance.

Can't wait to meet you at the meet up though. We can see how many people we have in common!

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:09

also marslady..... if your son is in the juniors then he will see that karl is the only white child standing in line in his class as he is the only white child in teh class.... hardly rocket science is it

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 00:09

you tell first!

WewaldWiwaffe · 12/09/2005 00:09

Vaunda- please tell me you are Fairyfly in disguise.
That would make me laugh.

soapbox · 12/09/2005 00:09

Do CofE school have mass I thought that was a Catholic thing!

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:10

Marslady why don;t you tell me which class your nephew is in then? i have stated previously that karl is in yr 3

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:10

oh yes Sobernow - have a look at this

not to mention the fact that Vaunda hasn't explained how her DS will be allowed to audtion for places for which he is too young......

aloha · 12/09/2005 00:10

The RBS does a LOT of outreach activity and does seek out 'real life Billy Elliots' from deprived areas - it has to to get its funding. The three guaranteed places from one school is nonsense though. It could just be a complete misunderstanding.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:10

sobernow he got a goodmans karaoke machine for his 5th birthday.... want to see a photo of it?

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 00:10

hardly rocket science, but I didn't have too much info to give him before he went to bed. Now that I know what a prodigy Karl is I'll be better able to describe him. Does he play football? David loves football and sometimes that's all he sees. But then he's just an ordinary schoolboy who doesn't go in for rocket science just yet lol

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:10

blimey soapbox - I'd better check that DS1 won't be attending mass at his CofE school LOL.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:11

well come on marslady i have told now your turn.

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:11

oh mars - Karl has an arsenal football kit so he must be a footie fan too - perhaps he and David are friends.....oh no sorry - my mistake all his friends have disabilities

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:12

ohhh look marslady won't give her nephews class out wonder why. and no karl doesn't play football, think i already explained he is not allowed to run around manically.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:13

watching footy and playing are in fact totally different, I will not allow my son to do something which could harm him with even a slight injury. as I already explained.

WewaldWiwaffe · 12/09/2005 00:14

I wonder why........

well, there are so many nutters about aren't there?

MarsLady · 12/09/2005 00:14

I don't think that my sister would approve of me giving as much detail as I have. I've named him and his school. He's older than Karl though. I don't know the name of his teacher this year, but I can ask after school tomorrow if that suits you. With 5 of my own it's rather difficult keeping up with their teachers never mind David's.

You'll recognise my sister though... she's the not so shy one at the gate lmao

QueenOfQuotes · 12/09/2005 00:14

awww - that's just cruel that is buying him the latest Arsenal Kit and not being able to use it

jayzmummy · 12/09/2005 00:14

FWIW I think you are really over exposing details about your child. His name, year group and details of the school he attends are highlighted throughout this thread. Way to much info to be posted on an open forum dont you think?

i meant to the class btw

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 00:15

Marslady go ahead and give your nephew all the info he needs..... quite pathetic really aren't you "ohh ohh i am gonna tell my nephew to watch out for him" well hardly mature is it. Karl is a normal schoolboy but he likes to do things that are different to others and the problem is what?
