Need help with a very sensitive complaint against a massive multinational!

Ok, here goes.
Coca Cola are running a promo via their Dr Pepper brand just now on facebook. It is called 'status takeover' and involves the application putting an embarrassing or funny status on your FB page.
My 14 yo dd participated and I was HORRIFIED to log into FB and see that her status read - 'I watched 2 girls one cup and felt hungry afterwards'. For anyone who doesn't know what this means, please stay ignorant, for those who do, you can imagine how I felt. This was compounded later on when a quick search through dds internet history revealed she had tried to find out what it was for herself. Thankfully, our ISP has a wonderful child filter!!
So, after various emails and phonecalls to CocaCola marketing I have been offered (quite offensively) as way of compensation, a night in a hotel and theatre tickets for the West End. Fat lot of use to me, we live in Glasgow.
So, how do I proceed? ASA? I am absolutely fizzing with rage and disgust, and want a full apology and explanation. CocaCola are saying they use outside marketing teams for different brands and it's outside their jurisdiction. Help!?

My kids are making good progress in learning to read and write and are not having the shit kicked out of them. Most people on this thread would be doing something about it if these things were happening to their children. They can be allowed to care about things like that and the premature sexualisation of children (just nicked your wording Dittany) and the desensitization of society, by porn, to how shocking unhealthy sex acts are - which makes sex crime more likely.

It's really quite depressing that there are people who see nothing wrong in a 14 year old watching scat porn. Jimbo can you really not put yourself in a mother's shoes and think about this. I'm not a mum and I can. Of course there would be the odd 14 year old who could view 2 girls 1 cup, have a bit of a laugh over it, think it's gross and move on. But there are far more 14 year olds who would be very distressed by it, who would worry that that is the sort of thing that will be expected of them by future boyfriends in order for them to be seen as sexy and attractive and ok and who will be very disturbed. I know I would have been if I had seen it at that age.

14 year olds should be introduced to sex as something that is loving and a form of intimacy and that is safe, and something they have control over. Ok, so a large number of 14 year olds don't, sadly, have that introdution and have viewed porn or had friends who have introduced them to the seedier side of sex. But nonetheless, the key argument here is that a trusted corporation actively introduced children to something abusive and vile that they wouldn't, in all likelihood, have come across otherwise. I didn't know about this until this post and have zero desire even now to view this video. Even as an adult I think I would be traumatised viewing it because of the idea of the women being forced into it in some way (and even if they seem to be acting willingly, this does not mean that is the case.)

Of course there are a million and one other bad things in the world that can be tackled. But of course we should still make a huge stink about this. It is wrong.

As I have written in an earlier post, I knew a young teenager who simply made her facebook profile public and was targeted and groomed by a paedophile, who she was arranging to meet until a previous victim of his got in touch with her. This campaign told 160,000 young people to make their statuses public. That is not basic internet safety. Read this article about what happened when a grown man posed as a young girl on facebook with an open profile. I know it's the Daily Heil, and I'm not the sort of person to think that there's a paedophile hiding on every corner. But there a bloody lot of them congregating online taking every opportunity to find their next victim.

I also have to confess that I'm a bit confused by Jimbo et al's stance on this.

On the one hand according to them this debate is all terribly petty, and we should be thinking about bigger things, like the fact that our children are all going to die of obesity due to drinking sugary drinks.

Yet on the other hand, here they are, spending hours defending the promotion practices of said sugary drinks.

Slightly inconsistent, non?

Well I´m glad the thing has been removed although I can´t believe that it didn´t happen instantly that it was known there was a porn reference.

I would have thought it was unacceptable for porn to be referenced at all unless there was a warning tbh.

As an adult I would have been offended & complained if I had received that status.

Jimbo - there was no mention of Dr Pepper in the status updates - they're very much hidden from being associated with those "embarrassing" comments.

Whole point was that there was a 1,000 prize each week, for 10 weeks (and whole competition / promotion was due to end a week tomorrow).

MrsR you did absolutely the right thing. It must be very upsetting and frustrating to have people criticizing you for it, but please know that there are many, many people who support you and are so glad you took a stand.
