Is it okay to clean your potty out in the sink in public toilets?

Sorry ladies but I think this is disgusting.

Wait for a toilet, empty it down there, wipe with toilet roll and wet-wipe if you have one.

NO PEE IN SINKS, GIRLS, IT'S NOT NICE.

Discuss.

I would do it at home but not in public.

morningpaper · 20/08/2005 15:43

And MaloryTowers: If a man walked in, said "Sorry ladies but I'm desperate and there's a queue" and slapped out his pet mouse and pissed in the sink, would that be unhygienic, or ok?

pet mouse!

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 15:46

god no - I'd never do that - at home yes I guess so, but not in a public place.

But then I never had to worry about that as I had one of those 'porta potty' things - where you just 'wrap' the contents up in it's bag and chuck it in the sanitary towel bin.

steffee · 20/08/2005 15:46

I wouldn't at home or in public loos!

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 15:47

but Malory - just because you tip it straight down the plug hole doesn't mean it all GOES down the plug hole - ANY liquid poured into a sink can splash long distances - even if you can't actually see it.

I agree with QoQ - unless you are using a milk-jug for a potty, there's no way it will just go down the plughole, and anyway once you rinse it with water then it's all over the sink.

I agree with Hercules on other thread - a sink is where you get CLEAN after using the toilet, not a place where you want to wash your hands where someone has just tipped urine. Yuk.

Or chuck the contents on the flowers, next to cafe and at an animal park farm!

foxinsocks · 20/08/2005 15:49

out, I would wipe the potty clean with wipes, chuck in a nappy bag and throw the wipes away

Even I wouldn't rinse a potty in a public sink - it's too unhygienic to splash wee and poo bits all over - and I'm completely relaxed about kids peeing in bushes etc.!

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 15:49

With DS1 I used to

Empty contents in toilet.
Use the bath taps (wouldn't fit in the sink properly) to put water in it.
Swoosh it around a bit
Tip down toilet
Use cleaning spray (or wipes which ever we'd got on hand) to wipe the inside

morningpaper · 20/08/2005 15:50

Lockets I rinse mine with the shower attachment on the bath.

(To be honest have rarely used potty anyway - always used a toilet seat and have a fold-up toilet seat for public loos.)

I put contents down the toilet at home them wipe with loo roll and then wet wipe.

I also empty down loo
Then swoosh with water and empty down loo again
Then clean with show hose attachment

"yes a little bit of wee might splash about but nothing compared to public toilet seats/handles/floors "

ermmm - yes that's why people want to be able to use a clean sink to wash their hands in after using the toilets!

Most people I know don't use their hands to open the handles when they leave the public toilets.

fqueenzebra · 20/08/2005 15:54

Well, no tea and biscuits MN meetup on your crockery and with cutlery at your house, MaloryT!

(WHY NOT WASH IT IN THE SHOWER??)

steffee · 20/08/2005 15:54

Tip the contents into the toilet. Run a little water (from bath tap) into the potty and swill round, then tip into the toilet.

I also have huge wipe things on a roll (they're dry but bits don't get soggy and stick to it like with toilet roll) that I wipe the potty with and put in a nappy sack into outside bin.

Saying that, I haven't had much experience with a potty, ds1 went straight onto the toilet, dd used a potty for half a day and then went to the toilet like her brother and ds2 is 20m and already wanting to go to the toilet just because his brother and sister do.

QueenOfQuotes · 20/08/2005 15:54

MT - would you sit on the edge of the sink in the kitchen and wee in it????

mears · 20/08/2005 15:54

Do you know I never needed to take a potty with me out shopping. Toileted before going out then at regualr intervals. Always took kids to toilet before they asked IYSWIM?

Wouldn't put pee down sink at home or in public.
