Is it okay to clean your potty out in the sink in public toilets?

Sorry ladies but I think this is disgusting.

Wait for a toilet, empty it down there, wipe with toilet roll and wet-wipe if you have one.

NO PEE IN SINKS, GIRLS, IT'S NOT NICE.

Discuss.

Marlory why not just walk to the bathroom and empty down the toilet instead of tossing down the KITCHEN SINK and then following it up with a load of chemicals??

Any downstairs potty wee goes straight into the compost bin to accelerate composting - actually I am always begging dd for more wee for the compost, we have a garden potty just for the job.

Or am I missing something?!

I've never taken a potty out shopping either - I can't recommend fold-up toilet seats enough! They are brilliant and fit into your handbag.

I never took a 'proper' potty - just one of those portable ones - was great as (even now - at nearly 5yrs old) DS1 was rather 'eratic' with his wee times.

ie he could go JUST before we left the house, and 20 minutes later he'd need to go again. But then wouldn't go for another 2hrs!

morningpaper · 20/08/2005 16:00

But Malory if it drips on the loo-seat isn't it dripping on your DRAINING BOARD? And you can just use a bit of loo-roll to wipe up any spillages in the bathroom.

QoQ I was always too ashamed to try those fold-up potties - don't you worry that members of the public will think you're asking your child to pee on some kind of hippy home-made sanitary-towel and carrier-bag contraption?

Why wouldn't you wee in your sink??? You're effetively letting your DD (?) wee in the sink by pouring it down there!

And why should it splash everywhere??? If you carry it carefully there's no reason it should spill - and it's MUCH more hygenic.

Well seen as though you're talking about toilet handles - even MORE reason not the tip urine downt he sink were people want to CLEAN their hands after using the toilet!

lol MP - no never bothered me at all - never even thought of it like that - and DS used it in alsorts of wierd and wonderful places

"tip wee out of potty -very large sink so goes straight down plug-no splashing"

Did you know that research has shown that liquid poured down the sink droplets can get very long distances (even up to the ceiling in some instances!).

Just because you can't "see" the droplets doesn't mean they aren't there.

I didn't say it was possible to tip to down the loo without splashing - I said there was no need for you to get in on the landing carpet or over the edge of the potty! - Big difference!

I bet you're the sort of person who doesn't flush (wouldn't want to touch the handle) or wash their hands (wouldn't want to touch the dirty taps) after using a public loo, aren't you?

happymerryberries · 20/08/2005 16:10

I wouldn't, I'd use the loos.

But as a general point , if all that has been in the potty is wee then it should be sterile (unless your child has a bladder infection)

The derties thing in the public loo is the handle of the door to the cubicle, as you touch that with unwashed hands that may well have small amounts of faecal matter on them! Yum yum!

We don't tend to piss in the sink on a regular basis, we save it up for special occasions

I will confess to having peed in the sink when rather drunk as a student
