I've had some stupid things said to me, and I know I've probably said some stupid things to other people.
I've minded SN children, and people have made unacceptable comments to me, but sometimes I think that people just don't know what to say, and it comes out wrong anyway.
One of my minded children saw a child in a wheelchair at our sports centre, wanted to know why the child was in the wheelchair, and wasn't satisfied with my "maybe she can't walk" type reply, so we went over for a chat. I was very nervous about it, because I didn't know what to say to the mum. It can't be OK to say "why is your child in a wheelchair?" How rude does that sound!! Perhaps we need a thread on what we SHOULD say!?? (I actually introduced my minded child to them and made some daft smalltalk "haven't seen you here before", and hoped my minded child wouldn't blurt out something inappropriate!)
