Rosa, I agree with Sputnik re the food. I'm sure she'll get her appetite back soon

Antonio , sounds like a good idea . I need to get rid of my foul mood for starters

Infact, spend the day treating yourself after taking kids in. Nice coffee and croissant with a book in a nice bar. Then shopping for your present. Then exhibition and lunch. Then meet with dp for cinema.

Actually, I might do this myself one of these days, sounds great, no?

Francasaysrelax · 24/11/2009 19:28

Yes, do it !

Actually I love having breakfast at the bar round the corner... nothing fancy, but they keep lots of gossip mags... I love sipping my cappuccino while doing my gossipy rassegna stampa

OP posts:
AntonioGramsci · 24/11/2009 20:00

Oh, I go to the dentist and docs for gossip rassegna stampa.

Hello all.

My Mil is great but difficult to buy as she does not want much. books is an option. we bought her a baloon ride one year because she said she'd want to do that. She want to go to see the ballet so that's an option for this xmas. Otherwise maybe a massage session as it is something she'd never ever buy herself but she'd guiltily enjoy.

I so want to watch The Wire. Will go and buy it for me DH.

Sputnik · 24/11/2009 22:00

DD wrote me her first letter today, we had been arguing about how to spell clock:

"She duz not now how to right clock
so tok abat tis (so talk about this)
clokc"
It is written in a kind of spiral. I am so impressed I just had to imortalise that.
As you were.

AntonioGramsci · 25/11/2009 10:41

Very funny Sput!#

Happy Birthday Franca, hope you have a lovely day.

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 12:26

Awwww, that's lovely Sputnik

Thank you Antonio. I've been to Sephora and got myself some make up (which I'll never use ) and then went into Peck (traditional milanese deli) and bought vitello tonnato and insalata russa for tonight

Happy Birthday Franca well done for treating yourself hope the dc's give you extra birthday cuddles.....

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 12:53

Thanks rosa. They did. Especially dd, who is quite keen on celebrating birthdays.

How's minirosa? Is she eating a bit more today?

OP posts:
Rosa · 25/11/2009 13:15

Thanks for asking but no she is not really only fruit and bread ......Will give it a bit longer and then start to get worried.....

Sputnik · 25/11/2009 13:16

Happy Birthday Franca!

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 13:20

Are you also breastfeeding her rosa? I think that milk/bread/fruit is not too bad for a baby who is recovering (there are also some bugs that leave you inappetente for a few days). I hope she starts eating more soon!

Thank you sputnik

When he was around 18 months DS went for a couple of months eating nothing but milk (mine), yogurt, bananas, crackers and biscottini. I think it was a combination of illness and teething.
He is still massive!
However he did eat all sorts of things before that, and now will only eat stuff with pomodoro in, unfortunatly.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 25/11/2009 13:27

BUON COMPLEANNO FRANCA!!!!
Hope you have a 'me-day' and lots of lovely pressies!

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 13:30

When she was 14 months, dd spent a whole summer only eating milk (not mine, cow's ), apricots and prosciutto cotto .

Pippi . No, I have another hour of me day and then I'm off to pick up children

OP posts:
Rosa · 25/11/2009 13:32

Yes I am well first thing in the morning and at night before bed but the night one is more of a comfort thing..
I had just started getting her off the 'pappe' and dividing things up properly mind you she has always had finger food and tasted all we eat but I eat lots of salad and zuppe so often I do 'her things' . Now its total no go she has her own spoon ( until she throws it) and I am encouraging her to dip it in which she does and then waves round. Am making sure things taste nice not washed out veg IYKWIM but will wait and see... HAve gone back to the pappe again with pasta but even today it was a nope!

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 13:38

Ah good that she's having your milk twice a day, that's full of nutritious stuff.

My dd started to eat more when I left her feed herself. It was messy but worthwhile. She also went through a phase of loving parma ham and mozzarella, which was quite an expensive habit when we were in the UK

Funnily enough I was having this conversation with my SIL this morning, re DS not eating much variety. What's important is a balanced diet, rather than a varied one (although obv that would be best). Milk, apricots and prosciutto actually touches all the base, more or less!

DD used to be pretty fussy but is much better now.

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 14:06

I think lots of children go through a stage (usually between 12 and 24 months) when they want to eat always the same things.
I think it is a worry only when all they want to eat is crisps or chocolate...

Mine aren't particularly fussy, but have been more "abitudinari" when smaller.

Franca how do you do your Arrosto?

AntonioGramsci · 25/11/2009 15:15

I have been looking for the episodes of Heidi on youtube, i think somebody said they were all there? Was it a dream?

I often make the trota all franca now, easy peasy and very nice. Let's bring on the arrosto now!

Francasaysrelax · 25/11/2009 15:22

I found very difficult to make my arrosto in the UK, as I couldn't find the right cut.
Here I usually buy "filetto di vitello" (I apologize again to Sputnik and fellow vegetarians) or "pesce". I do it in a saucepan.
Rosolare the meat in olive oil. When the meat is rosolata add 1 chopped onion and rosemary and salt. Gently fry the onion until tender. Add 3/4 of a glass of cooking white wine and half a glass of water. Put a lid on the saucepan, abbassare il fuoco and cook for at least 1 hr/1 hr and a half. Check that there's always enough sughetto while cooking, otherwise add a bit of water.

Buon compleanno Franca!

re: your dinner... Although I am eating at my mum's tonight as she is doing a trial for some of the Xmas food we will be making. I am bringing my very best mince pies!!!

Rosa, I really would not worry too much about the food, particularly if she is breastfed. My DD goes through patches when she hardly eats anything, and starts again...
