Hi everyone, sorry for the long absence- was in Italy and never get time for the computer when I am there. It seems a bit of a waste to go and see family and friends to spend non-waking time doing anything else than chatting etc.
Sorry to hear so many people are unwell. It seems everyone is down with something at the moment- particularly those who come and sit next to me on public transport (bit paranoid about catching bugs at the moment as 7 months pregnant)...
Surprised to hear so many of you thought Lady Oscar was grown up. I used to watch it when I was about 6/7 and in fact remember that my second long book, devoured over the Christmas holidays of prima elementare, was the Lady Oscar book (which, I have just discovered, was a novel written exclusively for the Italian market). The third book I read was, you guessed, perhaps, the second Lady Oscar book.
Maybe I was too young to pick up on the prurient bits- though one lasting influence was that for a good few years (later than I care to admit) the most romantic thing I could imagine doing with whomever I had a crush on at the time was waltzing... Oh yes, and the other lasting impression was that you could be what you wanted, as long as you wanted it enough- so gender not a bar to a male occupation. Protofeminist (word which I am sure does not exist in English, but you get my meaning, I think) at 7! But then again, the first non-fiction grown-up book I read (this time in quinta) was "Dalla parte delle bambine"...
Did anyone like/remember Bia? I loved it (first book, before LO- was very pleased to have learnt to read!) and spent many an afternoon trying to open a window by magic...
The other one I really liked was Mimi- though thinking back there was a definite sadist streak (Mimi being made to dig for the ball wearing chains on her wrists for example ) and the coach was a creep...
Had been toying with the idea of getting the DVDs in Italian for the baby, once it is old enough, but given what you guys have said perhaps I'd better watch them first...
