Have asked to be deleted. Not that it makes much difference I suppose...

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:14

Nah, I wouldn't bother having it deleted

What's smaland?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 14/10/2009 22:15

Out of curiosity how do you pronounce it the english way 'aikia' or the swedish/italian way 'ikea'?

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:15

ah!... better be on the safe side

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 14/10/2009 22:16

FRANCA!!!! Are you sure you are not lying to us and you have never been there? How can you not know about smaland! Or don't they have it in italy, it the creche.

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:16

If i'm speaking with an english person I pronounce it AIKIA.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 14/10/2009 22:17

boh!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 14/10/2009 22:17

aikia is funny though.

must go , night night.

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:19

ah, the Ikea creche. Sorry, yes. It's lovely. But as I said, I've never been with the dc to ikea. Dh never took us!

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:21

aikia here, ichea if I speak to italians. did I tell you pippi that dd was nearly called that (I mean like bigpippi, not ikea)? well, just an extra letter in the end really, but our neighbour (and a lot of other people) spell it like that anyway

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:23

franca, it's great, you go to ikea, dump the kids in smaland, pick them up all sweaty, have meal, go home with nicely tired and fed kids, off to bed! brilliant! pity they have to be at least 3

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:23

I can't help posting this, for those who were in italy in the very early 90s

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:26

It's a lovely name. Actually pippi's dds both have beautiful names. (I can't remember/don't know yours camo!)

I know, I know, I dreamt about living children at the ikea creche long before having children! But we never had the occasion.
I think now mine would be old enough to follow us through the shop... but again... no need for furniture at the moment. I'd like to go with them to choose their new bedroom furniture... no flat to move in though yet.

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:27

I remember watching the very first episode

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:29

Me too. I was gutted because it had replaced my fav "Quando si ama"

Penthesileia · 14/10/2009 22:30

Hi everyone.

So sorry to hear that the little ones are ill or teething. Thinking of you all, and hoping that everyone gets a good night sleep!

I am mega-stressed because as I was getting ready this am to go to work (6.00am - matchsticks), our nanny texted to say she'd been sick in the night and didn't think it would be a good idea to come in. Arrrgggghhhhh. I called her back and said that I agreed - I don't want her to drag herself in - no good for anyone.

But I had so much on today, quite apart from teaching. DH managed to take the morning off to look after DD so at least I could do my undergrad teaching, but I had to write off my office hour, dissertation meetings, MA teaching, and another important meeting. I just feel so exposed and embarrassed now at work.

I know that our nanny couldn't help getting sick, but it's so unlucky - this is her 2nd day sick in 4 weeks. Apparently she never had a sick day in her two previous jobs.

I don't know how to discuss this with her. I do believe that she was sick, but what if it's something other than coincidence? Medicine she may be taking or something?

God, I sound nuts. I'm sure it's just bad luck. But I have to really impress on her that I just can't miss work...

I must sound unreasonable.

But with noone else to rely on, it was just horrible this morning trying to work out what to do... Thank god DH was able to take the morning off...

And breathe.......

Sorry to be so self-absorbed.

Oh, and my neck still hurts. Booooooo.

PS - LOL LOL LOL @ Ikea-run world.

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:31

me tooooooo! I'd just forgotten about quando si ama, I loved it , ah, Rio....

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:34

oh, penthe, i know how you feel... you feel you have to apologise for having a child sometiems...

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:35

so p*d off I was really that they stopped showing it just like that, what was the nasty father called?

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:35

sorry, the last post was still on quando si ama...

Penthesileia · 14/10/2009 22:36

Yes, exactly.

I even - in my early-morning-sleep-deprived-state, contemplated taking her with me.

Yes, that would work. DD sounds exactly like your DD, Camo, and like miniPippi. Always on the go. Always wants to be walking, running, playing, looking into things, at the park. Etc. Will. Not. Sit. Still. Will. Not. Be. Held. Unless. Strictly. Necessary.

Also does not seem to mind at all when she falls.

Camomilla · 14/10/2009 22:38

memories

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:40

Penthe, I'm really so so sorry!
I don't know what to say. Yes, i agree you need to talk to your nanny. On the other hand people do get sick, and it might be just a very unfortunate coincidence.
What a nightmare!

Camo, yes I was gutted too. It was so bad it was good!

francaghostohollywood · 14/10/2009 22:44

Thanks camo (have you seen the comments "la guardavo sempre la mia nonna, io avevo tre o 4 anni )

Penthe, at the thought of your dd on the loose in the university

Penthesileia · 14/10/2009 22:45

Thanks for the sympathy.

I think I might post on the nannies board and ask for other opinions/suggestions from more experienced nanny-employers and from other nannies. I want to address this, but without sounding like a mental witch.
