My db was hooked on betotal. I remember I loved an antibiotic that tasted of liquorice...

MI: oh! Do share your raspberry muffins recipe if you like

minervaitalica · 06/10/2009 16:15

It's not my recipe... It's from la prova del cuoco. 250g ricotta, 180g sugar, 180g kamut flour (or wholemeal), 100g ground almonds, 2 eggs, 1 sachet of baking powder, raspberries or other fruit a piacere, preferably slightly frozen. Mix everything bar fruit, adding egg and baking powder at the end to make mixing easier. Add fruits, then put in muffin tray in oven at 180C for 20 mins.

Minerva- I saw that, and when MNers started saying how wonderful the list was I said they were all nuns' names.

Dd's compagna di banco is Giusy.....

Just spent 2 hrs tearing my hair out over compiti again. I did not sign up for this...no-one is paying me the maestra's wages...boo hiss humbug etc.

minervaitalica · 06/10/2009 16:55

ah ah Bucharest. My great aunt was called Giuseppina - and she was a nun! My sis' middle name comes from her as they were born on the same day.

Sorry homework is hard work - but if you were in the UK you would also have a book bag to deal with it, or Rupert the Bear. I always look at the bright side

Since when is it compulsory for parents to do HW with kids? When I was at school the teacher (an excellent one) used to say that HW was a way to develop independence - and a way for him to see where the kids really was in terms of their understanding... My parents repeated the mantra all the time!

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 19:20

muffins on la prova del cuoco ? That is certainly heresy? Recipe sounds good though, will give it a try .
Have just had a domestic goddess failure moment. I made arrosto today, but made it with the wrong cut of meat

Homeworks, the bane of my life... I agree with your parents mantra MI, but my problem is actually get ds to sit down and start... by the way, as he does tempo pieno he has home works only over the weekend. Phewwwwwwwww

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 19:24

I don't know of any giuseppina nowadays... but I remember a girl I knew at the village I used to spend most of my summer... she was a giuseppina aka Giusy, she was - according to the boys - very attractive and spregiudicata.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 06/10/2009 19:27

Franca do both your dc do tempo pieno?

MI muffin recipe is glorious - mist try. Apple cake was quite disastrous. do not like this cup measurement and def not a good idea to make cake with 3 children under 4 . dh liked it though so it won't go to waste.

I also knew of 'roba santa'.

I wouldn't even know which cut is the best for arrosto tbh...

must google betotal as do not remember it...

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 19:37

Ds is in seconda elementare and does tempo pieno (8.30-16.30 with more than 1 break at lunch time) because our local schools only offers tempo pieno. Most schools in Milan only do tempo pieno.
Dd is in her last year of materna and does the "regular" time from 9 to 15.45.

Meat cuts... it's a nightmare for me remembering them, the names also vary from region to region! I know that biancostato is perfect for lesso, the noce di vitello to do my mum's roast, "roastbeef" to make roastbeef al sangue... boh!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 06/10/2009 20:22

WOW! Does it means that all children have to stay till 16.30? I never... and me being all sad when you have been doing it for ages...

yes names of meat cuts different indeed as I never heard the one you mentioned. In my italian BF's house they eat 'rostbif' all the time!

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:08

. No, not all children do tempo pieno. There are other moduli you can choose, including the traditional 20 hrs a week, like most of us did in the early 1970s. But they are not that popular in Milan.

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:12

I bet that biancostato has a more interesting name in Umbria

I'm quite used at mine being at school or just not at home. I remember being extremely anguished when ds started reception... mostly because I was scared by "the system", different environment from his cuddly nursery etc.

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:14

used to.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 06/10/2009 21:15

is it 16.30 even on saturday? My My I never realised that. That's why you have got so much time to MN, read books, cook, clean the house, see friends etc ! Thought you were superfranca!

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:20

No, with tempo pieno there is NO school on Saturdays! And ds is out at 13.30 on fridays.

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:21

So basically tempo pieno is only 1 hr and a half longer than standard uk school time, no?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 06/10/2009 21:21

wow, milan is very european...

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 06/10/2009 21:22

one hour, dd finishes at 3.30 and starts at 9.

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:23

I do have plenty of time in my hands . I try to throw in also some work, but, due to recession my days in the shop are numbered. I also do some translating job etc, but it's like working for free, really.

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 21:25

1.5, as bloody primary starts at 8.30 here...

Well, not sure if Milan is that european. People pretend to work a lot though ...

Sputnik · 06/10/2009 22:08

Lol at pretend to work a lot!
Just back from Ikea to get our matress, which means when I can assemble the bed we might have something approximating a bedroom.
DH came back from work today with a huge box of facemasks and 3 packs of tamiflu, having attended a 3 hour lecture on hand washing. No ammuchina though
Apparently if any of us gets ill he is to stay away from work!

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 22:18

mmmmmm

Camomilla · 06/10/2009 22:18

my niece starts at 8 til 4pm (veneto) mon-fri, I think that's a veeeery long day...

don't get me started about dog poo - there's this middle aged big fat bald guy round here with a stupid little rat of a dog, and one morning I was coming back from the school run and there they were inside our gate, stupid rat leaving me a nice present . in the morning all I do is look at the pavement and mentally mark the way to avoid dog poos!!

very young for best friend I think. DS's only starting to say x is best friend now, but until last year teacher was saying that at that age they play with everyone.

glad to hear babies are better. DD still not going through the night and now has refused bf for 2 days, was hoping to get her through the winter bugs...

MM, we will always be here, don't forget!!!

francaghostohollywood · 06/10/2009 22:19

They do! When I worked in fashion, no one in my office ever wanted to be the first one to leave at 19. So we left together at 19.30 and went for drinks

Camomilla · 06/10/2009 22:21

che maleducata che sono, sorry, I forgot to say buonasera!

Camomilla · 06/10/2009 22:23

franca, might fo tomorrow, DP will surely go , but I need a cheap blanket for work - even though it was pouring, outside was a lot warmer than the office!
