OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/09/2009 09:34

oh and good luck penthe.

McCloudsextoy · 28/09/2009 09:47

Oh, will come and visit you in Ely too, I spent a day there as a teenager and thought it was lovely. Would you commute to London for work Camo?

Gio, mmm, in my experience all of ds' teachers would not have done what yours did, all very fluffy and warm here...At the same time maybe she is a little bit firmer than your average one?

Hello Damon and Penthe!

I always feel so happy when i take ds to his school, it is such a lovely and warm place, like a little village school, but in the middle of the gun shooting inner city.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/09/2009 09:54

Hello McC!

McCloudsextoy · 28/09/2009 10:20

When are we meeting then?

Rosa · 28/09/2009 10:36

Ever tried to pee in ski boots over a hole in the ground ?.... now that is fun !
After I left dd this morning a child threw up over our maestra ..... NOt mine I think as not had a phone call. We had our meeting but no mention of piggy flu. They all have colds already!
Gio I would probably have said something to be honest as my mouth gets ahead of my head sometimes!
Well I am here in my post parto girdle tee hee as I picked up buggy ( with baby) and pedana forgetting there was shopping as well farina and latte and something went crunch in my back ....Have been takimg ibprofen and stuck a cerotto on it and just being sensible. NOt going to doc yest as she will say loose weight and relax. The loosing weight won't happen until I do exercise and the relax well doesn't exist!
Before I forget - Can I freeze fresh foglie di lasagne ? I bought 6 thinking they were single and they were folded so I have too many. Or shall I do something with tagliatelle domani ?

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2009 12:02

Gio, I too would be quite upset, and I'm not overprotective at all . My dd's maestre would never do anything like that, they are very cuddly and very protective of the little ones!
Do try and speak with other mothers, confront experiences etc. Trust me, Italian mothers are happy to gossip chat about teachers!

Buch, apparently the teachers in ds's class had to explain to the children all the safety measures for swine flu... so while last year they kept stressing how nice it is to share everything with your friends, now they have to ban sharing anything

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2009 12:07

Oh no about the back rosa ! How about a chiropratico? Backs get buggered after birth

TheMysticMasseuse · 28/09/2009 13:25

rosa no... poor you and your back. mine sometimes goes into spasm- i feel like i am 300 years old. fisio perhaps? and yes you can def freeze the lasagne thing.

gio- i would have been really livid at the maestra... give it a while longer maybe everyone needs to settle in a bit more... don't know...

franca the peeing cone is awful! i just don't know what's so hard about a semi-squat (i had hours of drunken conversations with a danish girlfriend on this topic while at was at uni....)

meetup- monday of the half term, i think it's the 26th? am best for me and can travel. or you can come over to my place if weather is horrendous...

OP posts:
Camomilla · 28/09/2009 14:07

mmmm, difficult one. I've seen some young girls nursery teachers being unsympathetic to crying babies, and there's a teacher at ds's school who can "grab and drag" crying children from parents arms (and telling said parents to leave straight away in a very stern manner). but if that had been done to my child I think I would have said something. maybe yes, try and see what other mums say...

yes, I will still commute, but it's only twice a week, so a sacrifice worth doing for having big house in lovely town! and of course we'll be able to have a big LI parties!! ah,

26th fine by me. where?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/09/2009 15:08

26th fine by me too. anywhere is fine by me. MM are you sure you want all these children in your house?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/09/2009 15:09

I have always done the semi squat. I thought everyone would do that in filthy public toilets. that or the tapettino for children.

Rosa · 28/09/2009 15:20

We go to the toilet with dd saying mum have you got the wet wipes ...to clean the seat ??? AKA Milton or Mucchina...Now I am not pg she does often get ' held' ande here we find a tombino as the loos are so few and far between- I do not feel brave enough to hover her over a canal ...Many do !

gio71 · 28/09/2009 15:34

really Rosa!! Hover kids over the canals!!!! I am , I would be terrified would drop them!

minervaitalica · 28/09/2009 15:35

Well, semi-squat is fine unless you have a disability.. I have a (very minor) one but squatting for me is just out of the question. So it's tappetino, or waiting all the way for me!!! I tell you, backpacking for me was hell.

Not sure how we got talking re: this one, BTW...

Gio - as you told it it sounds pretty bad - and I am not overprotective (apparently I was talked in the village about last winter for having brought 5 months DD out for a walk while it was snowing a bit ).

Penthe - one thing though - some people think that wearing black at weddings is out - I do not generally give a toss but if the wedding is family and the bride is likely to have a bridezilla moment I would go for the kaftan...

Oh, and I thought about sth I miss from the UK: celeb chefs. I long for Gordon Ramsey...

Is anyone making Xmas pud?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/09/2009 16:20

what xmas pud MI!!!?? I have just come back from trying to make one of this sodding hansel and gretel ginger houses from ikea! They make it look so easy, don't they!Result: a good pan with hard caramel stuck to it (how do I get rid of it?), chocolate melted and then gone funny, half a house built, kitchen a mess, dd1 disappointed, me in a baaaad mood!! never ever again.

oh and I do not like xmas pudding much.

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2009 16:28

lol lol Damon (sorry if I laugh pippi, but that's exactly what'd happen to me if I ever attempted to make the ikea hansel and gretel house )

Oh minerva, I miss jamie and nigella and that locatelli man (I used to weep in nostalgia reading his columns in the guardian magazine ), but I'm not too keen on gordon. I blame his hairstyle ... am i missing something???

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2009 16:29

Mccloud: yesterday there was a thread in tv addicts of admirers of the real mccloud!

minervaitalica · 28/09/2009 17:04

Franca, you obv never tried Gordon's puddings book - I am his slave forever. oh Nigella... I will miss the Xmas special (and so will DH )

Damon - I hate Xmas pud, but Dh loves it and he would be disappointed if I did not try to make it given we will not be in the UK this year. Lol re: gingerbread house - I may attempt that once IKEA opens down here!!! I love a challenge.

Hard caramel? Have you tried melting it with really hot water (if caramel is cold). If not you could try to warm the caramel up very slowly until it melts again and comes off. Choc melted and gone funny cannot be saved I am afraid.

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2009 17:10

That's that then, I've never tried his desserts, no . I'm very partial to english desserts and cakes, I think they are mmmmmm yummie. I still miss my daily dose of M&S carrot cake

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/09/2009 18:59

well pan was cleaned with hot water [doh emoticon]. chocolate was thrown away together with a kg of glassa. dd1 ate all the marshmallow that did not stick to the house.the whole house smells of ginger biscuit.

MI you are welcome to try and then let me know the trick. it said to use caramel but the house is so slimsy and the caramel goes hard so fast.... b**cks to it.

McCloudsextoy · 28/09/2009 19:23

i think we have one of those houses in the cupboard! will let dh thave a go.

i cannot do the meet up on the monday, any chance it can be moved to another day of half-term, otherwise i will expect a full report and pics.

kids in bed by 7, heavenly!

what is the bad mood about damon? the h&g house? how is the school run going?

rosa, are you still trying to find home on the terraferma, how is that going? Is Vicenza too far? Fell in love with it watching it on the McCloud programme.

And now let me see who are these xknfvaeksjnflaeshf who are sbavando all over the real McCloud.

McCloudsextoy · 28/09/2009 19:23

lol at kg of glassa!

TheMysticMasseuse · 28/09/2009 19:34

Pippi can we email about the meetup? i think you've got everyone's email addresses, if you just send a one liner then i'll elaborate.

mmmmhhhh desserttt... even burnt caramel sounds heavenly to me right now, am on a diet (or trying to, anyway)>

i fell in love with vicenza too mccloud!!! i had no idea it was so amazing i am so ignorant about my own country.

can i get away with the last peeing related comment (and minerva it was me who started it again). rosa your anecdote of people dangling kids over canals brought to mind a rather shameful memory of the one and only time i "did" the carnevale while at uni, i peed in a little alley (was very drunk, but still, no excuse) and a lady poured a bucket of water over my head!!! she missed me by a couple of centimetres...

OP posts:
McCloudsextoy · 28/09/2009 19:38

Somebody on the telly thread is saying McCloud is a pompous ass, and someone else is accusing him of being a letch! Philistines!

Done lots of peeing in alleys in my days!

Is there a University in Vicenza? Maybe not. I know the area around Padova a bit, the hills with the agriturismi..mmmmm. Yes, would love to know better my country too.

francagoestohollywood · 28/09/2009 19:54

lol at the pompous ass . Poor mcc, I think he is lovely , though not sexy, I'm afraid.

I don't know Vicenza at all, even though I spent a lot of time in Treviso, as we have lots of relatives there. Treviso is another utterly beautiful place.
