DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:11

I mean obviously been away too long!

Sputnik · 21/09/2009 21:14

Hi Delgirl, was thinking of you the other day and wondering how your DD was getting on. My DD is very happy with her new school. We are back in the hills for 1/2 term last week of october, is that when you're coming?

DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:24

yay, we are there 28th of October to November 2nd but not til the evening on the 1st day. The scuola materna isn't closed then is it? Not that I want to palm dd off but i'm sure she'd like to see her teacher and friends for 1 or 2 mornings! And I want to have a look at some places. Is that when you'll be 'home'?

DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:25

And i'm very pleased your dd is settled, that's really great news. You must be relieved?

Penthesileia · 21/09/2009 21:28

Hi DelGirl, hi everyone.

All this talk of cakes and party food and panini is making me hungreeeeeeee.

Arrrgh. I cannot even think about the whole Jordan/pornification of culture thing in the UK. Makes me so incredibly depressed. And I get so wound up with the threads which periodically appear on MN asking what the point of feminism is any more. It makes me worry for DD.

PS. franca - I spotted Xenia on a private school thread!

Sputnik · 21/09/2009 21:33

Thanks! I think the scuola materna would be open, but there is a holiday on the 1st, or 2nd, can never remember!

DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:37

Yes I think it is, at least I think that's what they said when I mentioned returning in Oct. Tis to help their numbers you understand and dd's Italian. We fly back on the Monday so it would only be Thurs if she's not too tired and Friday. So can sort something nearer the time perhaps but thinking about the lovely pastries and cappucino on market day in PM....drool!

Sputnik · 21/09/2009 21:41

It's a date!
I miss my second hand rummaging at the market too. My folks are over that week as well, hope the weather is nice.

Hi Penthe

DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:41

must go to bed as dd starts breakfast club tomorrow as it's my work day so have to be up and out extra early. Sta/stai bene. Is that right

Sputnik · 21/09/2009 21:42

Me too, notte

DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:42

and that too. DD was wearing her little benetton denim jacket today, I wonder what we can dig out lol.

Sputnik · 21/09/2009 21:44

The thrill of the chase! Actually there's supposed to be a market here on thurdays, should check that out.

DelGirl · 21/09/2009 21:48

In Rome? Now i'm feeling all nostalgic and can't wait to return. Just hope I don't arrive to horrendous storms like I usually do lol. 5 weeks and counting hoorah. I should hopefully know by then if and when I am made redundant so can make more firms plans. notte!

francagoestohollywood · 21/09/2009 21:57

Oh hello delgirl, nice to see you

Penthe I spotted her too . How childish I am?

Oh yes, those threads about feminism. So depressing I don't even dare to go.

It took me more than 20 mins to rilegare one book. 3 to go.

Camomilla · 21/09/2009 22:21

hello delgirl

Camomilla · 21/09/2009 22:33

Bucharest · 22/09/2009 08:07

Morning-
Rosa- briliant suggestions, I'll go and have a rummage in the surgelo shop early next week for lots of ready made stuff!
Am also in dilemma as to whether to invite new class + old friends or just old friends...the kids will have only been at school for 2 weeks when the party is....one week when I dish out the invites...will they come? Do I want them to? (personally, couldn't give a flying, but if dd hands the invites out and they don't come, will she be upset....(even though she's already said she doesn't want to invite the gemelle because they're prepotente.) I don't really want 40 kids (especially with my catering skills lol) the 15-20 from asilo/relatives would suit me fine....but should I see it as a networking/making friends opportunity?

I was on a thread with Xenia the other day but can't remember which one....something controversial I imagine....

gio71 · 22/09/2009 08:51

am having same dilemma re invites for ds's party Bucharest. Because he didn't go to asilo and because a lot of our friends don't have kids we only have about 8 kids he knows to invite. Which seems a bit of a crappy amount for a birthday party! So do I just go for volume and invite everyone in his class? Or just the ones in his age group (he is with 3-5's). Oh the politics of it. I am tempted to say family party / meal and special treat with a couple of friends to the zoo to be honest but DP (who has zero involvement in organising anything by the way) is against.
LOL at the gemelle comment. On that front - is it me but are the an amazing amount of twins around at the moment. I remember twins used to be a rarity, now it seems like every third child is one? Random thought, am waffling, better start work.
V impressed with you driving in Rome Sput, I am glad we don't own a car so don't have to overcome that obstacle . Have driven when we have hired a car and was sweating buckets each time by the end of the journey.

Bucharest · 22/09/2009 08:55

Gio- I think there are more twins because of women waiting longer to have children....IIRC our ancient ovaries start pinging eggs out willy nilly once we get over about 35, hence more chance of having twins....

The problem with inviting whole class, is that if the whole class then turns up, the numbers will swamp the party and leave the people you really wanted to invite left out.....gawd, I don't know what to do.....I have about 4 days to decide...another Mum from nursery has a party booked the week after, and is having the same dilemma....I'll wait and see what she decides I think....

Dp here thinks we shouldn't bother with a party this year. Right, yeah, how do we explain to dd that she isn't having one this year when she did last year and has been counting the days ever since the last one? Hasn't a clue......

gio71 · 22/09/2009 09:04

ah of course, that would be why (the twins)! Didn't think of that-duh!
I don't really want to invite everyone but I don't know if ds will have sorted out any particular specific friends by then or not. Dilemma! think will just wait- let me know what you decide Bucharest. Bless your dd counting down for a year. DS is clueless about it, just keeps talking about wanting the train "Salty" from Thomas the Tank engine.

Bucharest · 22/09/2009 09:10

We're also apparently not allowed to not invite the whole class- I had virtually decided to just let Dd decide on the few kids she'd already made friends with (although I know that is a bit unkind, and I would hate it if someone else did it) but then another friend at that school said, if you take invites to school, they have to be for the whole class, which is fair enough....

Camomilla · 22/09/2009 09:49

morning!

gio, bucharest, I agree, if you send invites at school, you have to invite everyone. oh, and the kids go on about x's birthday party as soon as the invites go out, so everyone will know about it... we invited everyone this year as that seem to be the norm plus being the first year at school it would have been difficult to get DS to choose. I think the first party he was invited to was just a few weeks after school started and the whole class was there. I think especially as it was reception year parents took the opportunity to get the kids to form friendships and also for parents to get to know each other (DS went to a differesnt pre-school so didn't know anyone there). not sure if I want to repeat the experience though! at least not in a place where you pay through the roof and you still have to do your own catering...
