I HAVE STARTED A LITTLE ITALY THREAD!!!!

hooray for me!!!

OP posts:
Camomilla · 19/09/2009 21:18

sorry I disappeared last night, put the laptop down for a minute, and woke up at 2am!! it was lovely wine though...

oh, penthe, sorry you had a bad day, but as others have said, if she was at nursery, dd would get sick more often, so it's one of those things...

we had a lovely day - dd maanaged to sleep all night so we were nicely rested, so we went out for breakfast, then did shopping, had a pickick in the garden, then took ds to a b-day party. unfortunately we got home to find we got another parking fine on monday while we were having our eys tested, so it wasn't a cheap day with DP needing 2 new pairs of specs too! at least I haven't got worse...

sorry to hear about the acciacchi, hope you get better soon

francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2009 21:27

Oh no about the fine.
But it sounds like a lovely saturday camo

TheMysticMasseuse · 19/09/2009 21:55

i think mccloud was merely suggesting you see an ostepath Franca...

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 19/09/2009 22:03

Of course she did .
This talking about changing careers has really influenced me.

sorry guys

Penthesileia · 19/09/2009 23:17

Hey guys.

Sorry you've hurt your necks, MM & franca. That's just the most painful and aggravating thing.

Yes, where is Xenia?

Thanks for all your nice words. Was just feeling sorry for myself.

However this has improved my mood enormously. My friend and I used to laugh ourselves silly listening to this. Love it. Especially as after 34 seconds in it sounds like he says "arses arses patriarch". Hilarious. Loving the wet look too. Remembered this song, as was strangely in the mood to watch Beau Travail, which starts with them all in the disco dancing to this (after the legionnaires' song). The credits to BT are pretty awesome too (you have to wait about 50 seconds). Keep watching after the first set of titles too - there's a bit more. Makes me want to dance like a nutter.

TheMysticMasseuse · 20/09/2009 07:55

lol Penthe at Arses Arses are Patriarch i love that song too, it is simply toooooo cheesy.

is beau travail worth it then? have always wanted to watch it. my cinematic appetite atm is limited to peter pan (dds transfixed on the sofa and it's actually... not too bad!).

dh and i started watching the Wire season 1 on friday night and we're already hooked...

neck even worse than yesterday if possible. i hope you're better Franca!

Glad you are feeling better Penthe and hope your nanny is back on form next week. Do you have any back up if she is ill again? The whole juggling thing is a bloody nightmare at times - I also found myself getting really frustrated with my childminder when she was ill (possibly me being a little unfair).
How are the aches and pains girls?
Rosa am about to email you back-your cake is fantastic!! You should go into it properly-get yourself a website!
Camo your day sounded lovely- I love weekend days like that.
Anyone watched Il Corpo delle Donne online?

Camomilla · 20/09/2009 10:02

Rosa, you might be on tv tonight, as Mr McC's new program's on and he's in Venice! will look for the lady with the pushchair

can't believe I keep on falling asleep, tried to watch casino royale last night, but I kept on falling asleep , I'm an old woman. obviously then I coudn't sleep til 4am....

off to look at penthe's links...

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 12:53

Masseuse, sorry to hear your neck got worse .
I've been trying to convince dh that we need a Vi spring mattress (and the bed to go along with it, given we are still sleeping in una piazza e mezza ), I even went to the only vi spring retailer to get a preventivo... which scared us off

Never heard of BT before, what's that about? Gosh Tarnak looks like Corona's long lost twin brother

Rosa · 20/09/2009 13:32

QUickie from me as its SUnday and I have Eastenders to catch up on !!!!! Well I need something to keep me company with the ironing roll on autumn and jumpers = no ironing!
Penthe glad you are feeling better I always said to my staff - go home I dont want the bug spreading or you doing tac work as you are feeling grotty - come back when you are better and give 150% to make up for the work you have missed!!!! It normally meant I did double but I found I gained more respect ( apart from the odd ones taking the pi+s)
Marrow - BORING - I would scrape out the middle roast cubes along with some other winter veg( and the shell) and then fill shell with the cubes , bits of cheese and the veg lots of black pepper . YOu have to do this before the marrow goes too watery.
I met Kevin near to the Tre Archi Bridge if I say next to a canal (!!!!!!) but it is not far from a vaporetto stop. He went in a very dull looking building from the outside with a green door and I have no idea what is in there! I can't remember if I was still Pg or not - either way I was / am not small and dd1 was with me . I don't know if they did filming outside or not after I had gone. BUt let me know as I can't get I player or similar here.
SOrry about the sore necks I hope that you get some relief soon. DH has invited family domani sera - his birthday so I should at least find the table ........Then next weekend he is going out with friends to celebrate at which I am a bit as its not just 'the boys' but the whole group... I am really starting to miss out now hey ho As I said voglio vedere quando loro hanno i figli....He replied they will have nonni to help !!
Gio glad you like the pic and have fun .

Rosa · 20/09/2009 13:33

My mum was advised to get a tempura ( I think not the fried kind) pillow or even a mattress the pillow was £60 but she said it is fantastic !

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 13:46

Oh yes, I've heard about that too Rosa!
I'm dashing, we are meeting friends at the park, but it looks like it might rain!
'later

McCloudsextoy · 20/09/2009 15:05

Thank you Rosa for recipe tip, marrow still in the garden, growing even bigger!

Cannot wait for tonight and my love in with Mr Mcloud, if he speaks Italian I will scream with pleasure.

BT, what is it about? Well, that's a good question. I loved it at the cinema, though i understood very little but loved the images. We tried to rewatch it on telly but we were asleep within 10 mins, I always find her movies beautiful to look at, but lacking substance.

Thank you for links penthe, spent the morning teaching ds to dance at la denis levant.

TheMysticMasseuse · 20/09/2009 20:00

McCloud i think it was you asking about Il corpo delle donne? watched it today. nothing i didn't already know, but so, so, so depressing nonetheless. it makes me really happy i don't live in italy. the really depressing thing is how this objectification is seeping down into "normal" society... the way young girls and women dress, the way they behave around men, the rampant anorexia etc...

Franca would be interested in your views.. esp after having been in england.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 20:08

I think the objectification of women's body is a big problem of western societies, not just Italy.
Italy's problem is that no voice is given to the alternative.

TheMysticMasseuse · 20/09/2009 20:09

it IS worse in italy though franca. british tv is full of intelligent and original women, and only a small minority are rifatte. there is no equivalent of "veline" here...

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 20:15

Yes, there is no alternative. However, there are many intelligent women in the Italian media too, but of course they are marginalized. Think Serena Dandini, Bianca Berlinguer, Milena Gabanelli, oh hang on... that's it. Lilly Gruber is ok, but she has big lips, bizarrely.
And all of them are on RAI3 (or la7)... have you read what Brunetta said yesterday?

Let me remind you though that you too have WAGS, Jordan, and as many big brother wannabes...

TheMysticMasseuse · 20/09/2009 20:17

ah jordan yes, forgot all about her

what did brunetta say?

ps i like daria bignardi

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 20:22

Oh yes, I forgot about her.
Brunetta said here

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 20:24

Nothing much to do with objectification of women's body, but it gives you the idea of the climate we have at the moment , how things are polarized. And how it is more and more difficult it is to pass alternatives to simplistic opinions, racism, bigotry, tette e culi.

francagoestohollywood · 20/09/2009 20:41

yuppie! Point Break is on! PS and Keanu Reeves it doesn't get better than this!

Camomilla · 20/09/2009 20:43

yes, I think in italy it is marginally worse, in the sense it is not "hidden". we were having this conversation today with DP, were watching last night's x factor and this girl with big boobs on show, dressed a la coniglitta type thing, she had a decent voice and I thought how wrong things still are that she thinks the only way to get noticed in a singing competition is dressing like that. and then some clothes they do for little girls, what's with high heels? and padded bras for 12 year olds? all so depressing.

McCloudsextoy · 20/09/2009 20:50

Just watched an estratto of Il corpo delle donne on youtube. I agree it is depressing. It always shocks me when i watch Italian tv how middle aged male presenters can offend, humiliate, salivate, touch, make innuendoes, basically disrispect young women in skimpy clothes with noone batting an eyelid. Whenver I see these young girls, I think don't their mothers think it is awful what it is being done to their daughters.

It would not happen here. Jordan for all her tits out strikes me as a clever business woman in charge of her career, and she would thump anyone touching her arse on tv without permission.

Camomilla · 20/09/2009 20:52

it just seems that what was becoming unacceptable before, suddenly is ok and looks like the women on the media are "promoting it". berlusca doesn't help with his comments either though, does he, mind you, I meet a lot of similar comments at higher civil servant level , sexist, gradist and xenophobe (like an old boss, so had to move job!)

McCloudsextoy · 20/09/2009 20:54

But the male guy in xfactor would never ask to touch the girl's tits, or make comments about her body, no? i remember seeing an interview with la Canalis (yes, ) and the journalist was all libidinoso and she looked as if she was dying for a shag. Che schifo.

Do you just think it is more hidden?
