I HAVE STARTED A LITTLE ITALY THREAD!!!!

hooray for me!!!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 17/09/2009 21:43

oh and yes MM I alway Rofl at the name Pippa.

minervaitalica · 18/09/2009 08:17

Pippa is sooo funny - my DH even proposed it for our DD (his Italian is not bad but was not good enough to grasp the comedy factor of the name).

Actually a uni friend of mine is called Mona - once she explained to me that she loved her name as it meant beautiful things in many languages... I did not have the courage to destroy that belief by passing on the Italian meaning (or is it a Veneto-FVG thing? Sometimes I lose perspective)

Very impressed by everyone's bilingual children BTW... We are a bit early (almost 14 months but was very prem so more like 11 mths really) - at the moment she speaks a lot but it's her own special mothertongue, which sounds suspiciously like south-western English with a Friulian accent...

womblemeister · 18/09/2009 08:41

thanks pippi and franca (sorry if i missed anyone, this thread is soooooo long) for your experiences. I'll just stop worrying about kids integrating and start worrying about DH's English instead.

TheMysticMasseuse · 18/09/2009 08:49

just wanted to pop in to say that the nun dress arrived yesterday (from now on I shall always be shopping on johnlewis.com!) and it is absolutely fab! not sausagey at all, and not nunnish even- dh said it looks rather sexy in a french existentialist dominatrix kind of way (and btw dh and i area speaking again, which is a relief).

the shoes aren't bad either, today i'll show them to my physio to see if she'll allow me to wear them

pippi we want to know everything about the primo giorno di scuola!

baci everyone (love Ines too)

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2009 09:12

quick post before going househunting (fed up emoticon)

womble yes, I'd worry about your dh english, your dc will be absolutely fine!!!

Minerva, how prem was your dd? My cousin's dd was born at 29 weeks and it was very anguishing. She is now 3sh and lovely

Gosh I'm nosey. Have a good day.

Pippi come sta andando?????

Bucharest · 18/09/2009 09:18

Morning all.....my baby has been left at elementare.....(with a maestra who was very dolce but did look dressed for a day at the beach with a halter neck sundress and those transparent bra-strappy things....)
Dp (who I rather wish had gone straight to work IYKWIM??) insisted I tell the teacher about dd being bilingual (like she would never have worked it out for herself) so I said "dd is bilingual Italian/English". "So can she speak Italian?" "No you moron, she communicates with everyone round her by grunting." Pfffft.
Dd looked like there might be tears (although I have to admit she is capable of turning them on and off for dramatic effect) as the girl she knows from nursery hadn't arrived and the parents were all getting chucked out. But then she arrived and sat with dd so I scapped....
Off to count minutes until 12.30 now......

TheMysticMasseuse · 18/09/2009 09:28

Oh Buch hadn?t realised your lovely dd was starting today too!!! Che emozione!!! I am sure it?ll go great.

I still remember my first day of elementary as if it was today? crazy eh. And I am still friends with my first compagna di banco!

OP posts:
Sputnik · 18/09/2009 10:08

Yes, best of luck to all those starting today

minervaitalica · 18/09/2009 13:09

Absolutely - best of luck to all going to "big school" (whatever that is...). Do they still have the black grembiule?

MM, the French dominatrix thing sounds interesting... Maybe I should consider johnlewis.com too

Franca, my DD was also born at 29 wks prem so spent a couple of months in hospital before coming home as there were complications etc. She seems fine now, a really happy baby who knows what she wants, and the circumstances of the birth are now a source of amusement to all really...

Camomilla · 18/09/2009 13:30

lol lol lol at Mona , I met and Irish Mona, friend of a friend - is it just a north eastern thing then?

dd's still got this terrible cold, so had to disappear last night to hold her upright while she slept on my shoulder, poor thing. DS's off school as he's got a bad cough too, so we'll probably get a poor attendance letter next week

shoud really go and do some boring work, better have un espresso first...

Rosa · 18/09/2009 14:05

Gio - e mail on its way couln't shrink the pic size so it might take a while to download......
BIg school now that is SCARY.....They said at materna that dd can sleep next week I am unsure as I don't think she will, she will want to play which means at 6pm I will have not 1 but 2 crouchy babies to feed / bathe and bed plus she gets sooo stubborn when she is over tired..So am thinking a compromise say 1 day yes one day no and make it a routine for her ..
ALl this clothes buying makes me realise that I STILL have nothing for this wedding on 24 OCt can I get away with boots then ?????
Bloody bells are going looney here what is happening on a Friday at 3pm is it some religious day that I should know about ?

Bucharest · 18/09/2009 14:13

Back, c'e l'abbiamo fatta!
dd, on spotting me in the schoolyard when they all came out...."amo la scuola, mi sono divertita tanto, posso andare domani".
Phew.
Dd's grembiule is white with a Miss Ribellina (her new favourite thing) motif jobby on it....

TheMysticMasseuse · 18/09/2009 15:08

rosa it's probably because of all the dead soldiers in Afghanistan.

Buch- bless your dd, and congratulations!

McCloudsextoy · 18/09/2009 15:11

Pippi;'s computer does not work, but first day was great, her dd went in fine. have to keep informed in case anything life shattering happens on little italy, you know, pregnancies, divorces, affairs, etc. Might make things up.

Anyone knows what is farina di mais o farina gialla?

My dd is speaking!!!!! A handful of little words, and one is ds' name. I feel happy but also sad, she is growing fast. Why do i always feel happy but immediately sad as well?

Lol at mona, we don't have it around my parts, but yes, heard in the veneto. lol. We have a friend called Titti, goodness the English have great fun with that one.

McCloudsextoy · 18/09/2009 15:11

yes, dead soldiers probably.

Camomilla · 18/09/2009 15:29

yeah for mini McC! DD has been calling DS for a few months, but would she call me? the little ungrateful - don't you feel that DC2 grow up faster?

Farina di mais is farina da polenta, you can get a big bag in the indian food section

Camomilla · 18/09/2009 15:32

bucharest, so nice when they say they had a good time, makes you worry less...

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2009 17:13

Ah so well school went well both for mini Buch and mini Pippi!

Mcc by all means make things up and refer to pippi

I'm shattered, I walked all day, errands etc. My feet hurt... I need MM's shoes

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2009 17:14

so well? I meant so glad!

Mcc awwwwww dd speaking .

Sputnik · 18/09/2009 17:27

Glad it went well for everyone

Just posting from my mountain retreat after driving 2 hours to get here! Decided to leave straight form picking DD up to avoid friday night traffic, but it was pretty bad anyway. Oh well, big cup of tea is in order, I am getting used to the Rome traffic already.

So peaceful here

Sputnik · 18/09/2009 17:29

Rosa, I took DD 3 or 4 days a week to begin with for that reason.

francagoestohollywood · 18/09/2009 17:59

Glad you are getting used to the traffic. It drives me mad here in Milan. This city would be 1000 times better with 500.000 cars in meno.

Sputnik · 18/09/2009 19:45

Yes, same for Rome, especially the centre. But I can't talk really as somene who drives 50km a day merely to take her DD to school.

McCloudsextoy · 18/09/2009 20:46

oh, thanks camo! yes, the 2nd ones grow almost by themselves!

i would love to be in an italian city tonight, even with the traffic, i envy you girls.

Thinking of what story i should make up for pippi...mmmmm.

Camomilla · 18/09/2009 21:03

bit drunk so I'd probably come out with s.thing too far-fetched...

wow, you're so brave sputnik! I drive, but I only do those 2-3 routes!!

yeah for strictly... better go to the sofa - will get MY laptop set up, ack in a mo
