francagoestohollywood · 16/09/2009 21:55

sounds good Masseuse .
Ah the wonder spot. Tis good fun, not impegnativo, good escapism. I might re read it myself.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 16/09/2009 22:32

I am only here for a minute but yes I don't care too much about ofsted it was all about my gut feeling and I know the right school for dd1 was the one she has been no 1 on the bloody waiting list since day one. No one moved. so my bleeding heart is there. If they give me a place at a later stage I'll have to think about it long and hard as dd1 2 best friends are in the school she is going to and she might be devastated.

Sara' quel che sara', no?

night.

Great news MM!

Penthesileia · 17/09/2009 00:28

Go for it, MM. I am firmly of the opinion that you can never have too many degrees.

Pippi - it sounds stressful. But you have a good attitude.

I am on a baby-naming thread right now and fervently hoping that the OP chooses one of mine! Particularly one of the more unusual suggestions!

Penthesileia · 17/09/2009 00:29

PS. LOL LOL LOL @ Rosa's SH!!!! You make me laugh, Rosa.

minervaitalica · 17/09/2009 08:53

Penthe... I love naming threads... Which one are you on? I hope it's not the one where they suggested Gigliola ( now you are all going to bark at me because you/your DDs are all called Glgliola in which case I apologise etc etc).

Sui, for work clothes there is a shop called "pretty pregnant" in central London that does fab clothes for work. I did find some good things in TopShop maternity - if you need something funkier...

Agree on the degree front... Actually I am thinking re: starting from scratch myself next year... Am I mental?

gio71 · 17/09/2009 09:49

I know a couple of people in the UK who are retraining as counsellors-both really enjoying it.
Anyone got any good birthday cake recipes? Was going to buy one for ds [lazy emocion] but then I found an edible Thomas cake decoration thing on the internet so going to give it a go. I have a fab chocolate one but have done that the last 2 years on the trot so looking for something different.

Sputnik · 17/09/2009 11:10

I only do chocolate cakes I'm afraid.

Been having a life here , had friends over last night, nice to think we can see more of each other now. One of them has a very cute 8 month old, so perfect for palming off all our old gear on.

Then I went for a walk to the market this morning, it's not too far at all and I bumped into my BIL there, who introduced me to his greengrocer di fiducia, they were very nice and gave DS a banana.

Bucharest · 17/09/2009 11:48

I was roffling at the Gigliola thread too.
Naming threads always make me laugh when they think really 90yr old suora names are so hip and cool.....

Just been and spent another mutuo on more pencils, rubbers, diaries for school tomorrow....aaaargh. Been on phone to Italian friend who is now regretting the preferenza she put, pah, she was lucky (raccomandata) that she got the preferenza she wanted...dd has neither the preferenza or the amica.....friend has been up since 6 fretting that ds will cry all morning....My other friend in Sicily thought her son started school tomorrow and got a call yesterday asking why he hadn't been for the first 3 days

I might go and play on the thicko-teacher-can't-use-English-grammar thread...feel a deathwish coming on....

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2009 12:51

Sputnik, aaaah it is so nice to be able to see friends (at least it is mostly important for me) and most of all to have a fruttivendolo di fiducia (which, btw, reminds me of a scene in Nanni Moretti Bianca ... actually I think I've already posted this link!)

Gio, I mostly make choc cakes for the dc birthdays. This spring for dd I made Victorian Sponge cake (following Nigella's recipe) using half flour half cocoa. I then covered it in choc ganache and put strawberries all around.

Gigliola, I think it's quite pretty, though not my thing. But, I wonder, how do you pronounce it in english?

Masseuse I agree with penthe and minerva: you can't have too many degrees.

Rosa, any luck with the caramelle? My caramellaio had everything but. Damn.

Bucharest · 17/09/2009 12:56

Well, that's the thing isn't it? They'd pn it jigg-lee-oh-la.

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2009 12:58

Appunto !

Sputnik · 17/09/2009 13:22

Or Giggly-oh-la
Baby name threads have an irrestistable attraction, don't they? I often go on them wanting to write "are you totally off your head?" but then don't have the heart to.

Lol at Macellaio di fiducia.

minervaitalica · 17/09/2009 13:28

For the cake, I have one this one for my DD's birthday - the pan di spagna and the filling were fabulous (obv she only had one tier!).

Oh, almost forgot, this morning I thought people were looking quite normal at the school gate, then someone appeared in a very tight leather effect red bustier thingy. She was by no means skinny either.
If any of you are still worried about looking like sausages, then don't. Unless you are thinking of adopting the above look.

francagoestohollywood · 17/09/2009 13:43

Oh wow that cake looks amazing Minerva! Did you make it??? . It must be delicious too...

Sputnik, lol. You should start a blog, a bit like the Sartorialist, with pics of school run women!!!

Ds school is quite "normal" in that sense, really average. But I'm told that some state school in really affluent catchment areas are unbelievable!
