Some of you will have read my threads on my neighbours but we are pushing to get moved, having the housing manager coming out tomorrow and I want to get out of here. My SIL is in Bolton and I have expressed an inerested in 2 houses up there. Homeless won't help because the police can't give me a letter, council want to me to start the eviction process (ie complain and get them to sort it out or face eviction) but I can't do that as I know it will make things worse. Now I need some help to get us moved, I have 2 disabled kids and they can't live like this, and I have to go out a lot for appointments etc and its so scary going out. Please help me.

This is the letter

I am writing to support the application for alternative housing in respect of the above named family. as the allocated SW to (dd1) I am aware of ongoing issues within the family which I would like to highlight as grounds for them to be rehoused.

Mr and Mrs xx are a young couple who have 3 children, two of which have complex needs, (dd1) has a dianosis of CP as does her brother (ds) blahblah.....

I ahve implemented support services to prevent family breakdown as both parents have suffered feelings of depression blah blah

More recently difficulties within the family have reached crisis point, this is due to harrssment, threats and imtimidation from neighbours, which has een reported to the hosuing dept. and police. This has led to Mr and mrs XX feeling fearful to leave the house. (dd1) and (ds) have frequent appointments and the antisocial behaviour of the neighbourss could potentially lead to appointments not being kept together with the potential risk to the children if they witness violence (this has allegedly been threatened)

It is my understanding that the police are involved and monitoring the situation in accordance with the protention from harrassment act 1997. I also propose that we adopt a Multagency and work together to promote the welfare of these three children aND their parents to ensure that their human rights are protected and the childrens' welfare remains paramount. I therefore request that in accordance with Housing legislation and the Children's Act 1989 we support the family to be rehoused as a priority need.

I hope that you will look at the family's situation favourably and consider rehousing as a matter of great urgency. Due to the nature of (DS) and (DD1) disabilities their prognosis in terms of mobility is unclear. a downstairs toilet is therefore a necessity. I also recommend a four bedroom property to enable (ds) and (dd1) to have separate bedrooms due to (ds) ulnerability where (dd1) challenging behaviour is concerned. I am aware that you work on a piority need basic so am aware that the family would like to be offered whatever is avaible however a larger property with wheelchair assess would provide many benifits to the family. Blahbla...

very well worded.

charlie72 · 02/06/2005 18:40

Lots of luck to you all. Keep the thread going coz I can never find follow ons!!!!!

Fingers crossed this gets you the move you need.

Magscat · 02/06/2005 18:50

Hi Sparkly. Glad it sounds like you're getting somewhere with the Bolton option. It should be pretty straightforward in terms of offering it to you. Most Councils & HAs will allocate points on a needs basis and then offer what's available to the family/person with most points.
What you have to do is make sure they know about every single reason that you need rehousing - e.g. harrassment, medical needs, and every reason why you are applying to them - e.g. family connection to the area.

Do you need any help finding other HAs in the area - I can get you a list if it helps.

sparklymieow · 02/06/2005 18:56

The council here can do a mangament transfer (ie, override everything here) which is what I am going to ask for, with all the info. they have, they can't really say no.

Oh No!!! just thought if\when I move I will no internet for a while........ NO MUMSNET!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Magscat · 02/06/2005 19:38

No Sparkly, I don't work for Bolton but I do work for an HA that has houses/flats in Lancs - though not sure about Bolton - more in East Lancs.

I'm not involved in allocations or Housing Management but I would have found out stuff for you if it had been any use. Sounds like you've got plenty of good advice & are getting it sorted for yourself though so I'll butt out

sparklymieow · 02/06/2005 19:40

Thanks Magscat, i'll let you know how the visit comes tomorrow with the Customer manager, I might need help then,

PS did you read the letter from my Social worker?? Do you think the council will act on that??

OP posts:
Magscat · 02/06/2005 20:17

It looks good to me, but like I said, I'm not in Allocations/Lettings and different Housing depts have slightly different rules, so please don't take anything I say as gospel.

Having said that,it's my guess that you'd get maximum points and I would have thought the only problem would be if they don't have a suitable vacant property or if there is another family with the same points who has been waiting longer.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow for you.

sparklymieow · 02/06/2005 20:25

I know that there is a chance the council may not have a suitable property, I have ticked the H/A box on the form too. I had to fight to get this house, used SS before, and got moved within 2 weeks before, didn't want to move again but needs must and I have to think about my family's safety

OP posts:
sparklymieow · 02/06/2005 21:57

well, I suppose I better get all the paperwork together, my house is a pit atm, haven't had the energry to tidy up, with all this going on.......

OP posts:
TwoIfBySea · 02/06/2005 22:24

Good luck Sparkly!

The only thing I can say is to keep persevering. I have found when I need the council to do something that if you go up the ladder (head of dept., local councillors, local MP) sometimes just mentioning that you intend to keep at it causes things to happen a little faster.

I wrote to our pupil placement department on Monday because they had messed up dst nursery placements for next term after causing a whole problem at the beginning of the year which nearly caused them to miss out completely. Back then I contacted the Scottish Executive education dept and got it sorted asap. On Monday we handed the letter in, strongly worded that I would do the same this time. It was sorted by 4 p.m. that day.

I know it is not similar circumstances and your situation is far more important but the point is to keep at them until you get what you want. Councils work like this - smile and the world smiles with you, growl and you get better service!

spacecadet · 02/06/2005 22:24

i would say you will get maximum points definately, it all depends on a suitible property coming up, do you still want the video cam?

sparklymieow · 02/06/2005 22:53

yes please SC, Tell you want, I'll let you know how the meeting goes tomorrow. I know before when I had to move from my nasty neighbour before (its not me I swear!!) I used my DS disability to get moved, was given max. points, but the council said I had to have a ground floor flat or bungalow, now there isn't many of them about here, so got SS to come and assess DS, that was on the friday, we went away on the monday, the council reaasessed our application on the tuesday, when we arrived home on the friday there was a lettter waiting saying that we were allowed to use the points against a house, phoned the council on the monday about a house I'd seen empty and was told that this house was being offered to us. So I know they can work fast if needed, just gutted that I'll be leaving my house now, this is the only place I have ever felt settled and now I hate it
