Does anyone else by their children designer clothes apart from me?

Hi my ds is 13m and i find it so hard buying nice things for him. Of course he has got a few bits from mothercare, next, marks and spencers and asda but occasionally i would like him to wear something different. These places never seem to offer anything different, they offer babies acting as old men in shirts and ripped jeans.
There are a few children shops near me and i just can't resist it. For ds first birthday he wore an adorable miniman outfit that was expensive but he looked beautiful.
What do you all think about designer baby clothes?

She was a bit rude about Next clothes and saying to Nutty they are 'cheap as chips' as if Nutty buys tatt. Anyway, LB baby is only 13 months - just wait till he starts doing knee skids on the grass and making mud pies! She'll soon be down to Tesco!

Gobbledigook · 16/05/2005 12:16

Miniman is a brand of clothing for kids Noddy. Too expensive for daily wear I think and actually I haven't liked much of what i've seen - too fussy.

cupcakes · 16/05/2005 12:16

Miniman is an expensive range of children's clothes - usually sold in boutiques. It's beautiful and understated.

Gobbledigook · 16/05/2005 12:17

LOL cupcakes!! Lets agree to differ!

cupcakes · 16/05/2005 12:17

at difference in opinion!

totally unnecessary to dress kids up like that it says more about the parents No one really looks at what kids wear

advocateofthedevil · 16/05/2005 12:20

did she say "if you buy next you are buying tat"? no. she also shops at mothercare ffs - that's not the actions of a complete clothes snob is it?

Toothache · 16/05/2005 12:21

Yup we're all entitled to our opinions.... and if Next clothes are all tatt.... then Designer clothes are overpriced bits of material that babies dribble/shit/puke on and that older kids coat in mud!

Ho hum. And the state my ds comes home from Nursery I'd be spitting blood if I'd paid for expensive clothes that get covered in paint, glue and glitter.

Toothache · 16/05/2005 12:25

Most Mums do their best to make their children looked presentable and clothe them suitably depending on whether they are walking round the shops, playing in a field or going to a wedding!!!

I don't like threads where it's implied that if you have more money to spend on your kids clothes then you care more about how they look and you are a better parent! Hmph. >miffed emoticon<

yeah yeah yeah.... I can hear you all cry "If you don't like the thread, then don't post on it".... but I'm far too opinionated to let this one lie!

Gobbledigook · 16/05/2005 12:25

AOTD - SO knew you were going to say that. It's what she implied, it was in the tone of her post.

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 12:26

She said the stuff in the next sales is a load of toot.

advocateofthedevil · 16/05/2005 12:26

exactly. that's your opinion and you're free to express it without being accused of stuff like bragging about your disposable income or making assuptions about people's fashion sense or insulting people who shop at particular stores.

Hermione1 · 16/05/2005 12:26

I am just glad my kids have clothes, does it really matter what label is on them? You could stich a designer label on them, lol.

Toothache · 16/05/2005 12:28

Advocateofthedevil (great name btw!) - She is bragging though. It's not an accusation, it's pretty obvious.

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 12:28

She was insulting though and making assumptions.

DillyDally · 16/05/2005 12:28

I am a huge H&M fan with some george from asda...I have also been guilty of buying DD designer (Yes she had a kenzo denim jacket and looked rather fetching in it I must admit) but apart from the odd splurge i find George and H&M are pretty good (better than John lewis in etrms of quality) - I loathe the Barbie / Ashley-Kate and Marie twins (or whatever they are called) ranges though...but then again DD is too young to like such stuff and pressure me for it.

Toothache · 16/05/2005 12:28

Hermione1 - WELL SAID!

Gobbledigook · 16/05/2005 12:29

AOTD - are you for real? Say what you like a give a shit who you hurt along the way? Charming.

jessicasmummy · 16/05/2005 12:30

exactly - what about some kids that dont get the luxery of new clothes full stop?!

It was just one big bragging thread IMO.

jessicasmummy · 16/05/2005 12:31

very sad.

handlemecarefully · 16/05/2005 12:32

Do you think? I didn't read it like that....

If so it's a mistake to make assumptions based on what people wear / appearances / possessions etc. My FIL went to a Mercedes garage dressed in his decorating gear and paint splattered (he is a bit eccentric), and they wouldn't give him the time of day. So he went of to spend his considerable disposable income elsewhere...
