Hi my ds is 13m and i find it so hard buying nice things for him. Of course he has got a few bits from mothercare, next, marks and spencers and asda but occasionally i would like him to wear something different. These places never seem to offer anything different, they offer babies acting as old men in shirts and ripped jeans.
There are a few children shops near me and i just can't resist it. For ds first birthday he wore an adorable miniman outfit that was expensive but he looked beautiful.
What do you all think about designer baby clothes?

I think jeans on a tiny baby can be uncomfortable - but DS had a gorgeous soft pair when he was a couple of months old - very soft. Some of the waistbands on trousers can be really hard - but then some of the soft baby clothes with poppers down the back are just plain daft on tiny babies who spend their day lying down!

Jeans are far more hard-wearing than tracksuit trousers when crawling though - I admit I'd been thinking of whole tracksuits (hooded jacket and matching trousers) with Adidas or similar on when you said it before - DS does have stretchy trousers, but they get baggy round the knees with crawling!

Nemo1977 · 15/05/2005 23:18

kama i think m+p can actually be quite expensive..pmsl..

loulabelle222 · 15/05/2005 23:19

moondog - i love knitted cardigans it wouldn't horrify me! let a baby be a baby i say!

M&P are too expensive for me!

Surfermum · 15/05/2005 23:19

I agree HM - some of the poppers on baby clothes are in ridiculous places. When dd was first born I used to choose her clothes based on what was easiest to put on her and required me to handle her the least.

omg £300 for bedding

Babies r us for ds..lol

hunkermunker · 15/05/2005 23:22

I am in the wrong business...!

loulabelle222 · 15/05/2005 23:22

ive never had a problem with holes in clothes from ds crawling but this is probably because when he was crawling it was winter so his trousers were thicker!
btw - zara is good for boys clothes!

cot bed quilt and pillow case £58
valence -£28 ( i know how dumb)
sheets- £30
Rug - £45
mobile - £28
cot toy - £15
lampshade - £30
curtains - £50
cot bumper - £35
height chart -28 (what a waste)
pillows - £20

It was such a waste i really really regret it, it does look lovely but ive seen just as nice set in boots for not even half that price!

Blimey!

I've bought DS several grobags (in different sizes, mostly cheap off kiddicare - lol!), some white fitted cot sheets and...I think that's it!

AngelCakeUmm · 15/05/2005 23:29

But thats a whole bedroom set i thought you just ment his bedding as that was what was said

Nemo1977 · 15/05/2005 23:30

pmsl we bought stuff on offer in toys r us and i was gutted cos i think i spent about £40 in total. He still uses most of the bedding now on his toddler bed apart from having a proper quilt

moondog · 15/05/2005 23:30

How the hell do you get a valence sheet onto a cot???

hunkermunker · 15/05/2005 23:30

Oh, did also buy two lots of animal border from Mothercare - DS coos and grins at it and points at the animals now, so I feel money well spent

AngelCakeUmm · 15/05/2005 23:30

i was gonna ask that MD

Nemo1977 · 15/05/2005 23:31

in fact it will all be getting passed on to no.2 in dec. I have kept ds bday outfit and some of his nicer stuff so if we have a boy got nice stuff in. If we have agirl then its all going on ebay to pay for something nice for her.

Gwenick · 15/05/2005 23:32

HM - don't talk to me about Grobags................

DS2 escaped from his last night - found him sat in his cot with his Grobag at the other end grinning at it - and I think he's escaped tonight - but daren't go in and check incase I wake them up. Certainly when DH popped downstairs to get DS1's teddy after he'd put them in bed, got back up there and DS2 had already undone half the zip............!

moondog · 15/05/2005 23:32

My moses basket was £5 from Age Concern. (Sorry, must stop boasting about how little I spend on my offspring, really must....)

loulabelle222 · 15/05/2005 23:32

its a valence for a cot bed ? it goes underneath the mattress and goes through slots in the cotbed.
