Does anyone else by their children designer clothes apart from me?

Hi my ds is 13m and i find it so hard buying nice things for him. Of course he has got a few bits from mothercare, next, marks and spencers and asda but occasionally i would like him to wear something different. These places never seem to offer anything different, they offer babies acting as old men in shirts and ripped jeans.
There are a few children shops near me and i just can't resist it. For ds first birthday he wore an adorable miniman outfit that was expensive but he looked beautiful.
What do you all think about designer baby clothes?

Oh I forgot:

dd1's class made a little passport thing - a drawing of themselves on the front and their name and a little fact about themselves inside. Dd1's was "Her name" and then she wrote "I have a sister. She is funny." Most others were in the same vein except for Bruno's which read "My name is Bruno. I do magic for special people and have a lovely collection of stones."

ninah · 17/05/2005 13:28

at bruno!

snafu · 17/05/2005 13:33

pmsl!

See, told you

Cam · 17/05/2005 13:44

Have just had horrendous flashback (thought I'd buried this memory forever - thanks guys) of my brother wearing lederhosen with the full matching accessories of kneesocks and "blouse" My mother was influenced into dressing us in these "fashion" items when my (RAF)family was posted to Germany in the late 50's. I had the matching girl's gear of dirndl skirt, white bloose and black waistcoat
Sound of Music anyone?

tarantula · 17/05/2005 13:51

lol Cam sounds gorgeous.

Toothache · 17/05/2005 13:52

I've totally lost the thread of this...er... thread!

flashingnose · 17/05/2005 13:53

I love bruno - glad to see I'm not the only one!

How bizarre to think he's got his own virtual fan club

ninah · 17/05/2005 13:53

its a free meditation on designer lederhosen and magic, toothache

Toothache · 17/05/2005 13:55

How surreal Ninah!

No fighting now I see....

tarantula · 17/05/2005 13:58

Nope we are all sitting round in lederhosen going 'ooooommmmmmmmm'

Peace and love and all that you know

Cam · 17/05/2005 13:58

Lederhosen wear very well

tarantula · 17/05/2005 14:05

Does this mean that your brothers lederhosen are to be passed down to another generation Cam?

Cam · 17/05/2005 14:15

I wouldn't put it past my mother to still have them somewhere in her attic (she's got everything else from our childhood up there) - can't imagine anyone wanting to put their kids in them nowadays (outside of the Tyrol)

tarantula · 17/05/2005 14:22

Bet theyll be in fashion soon and well see all the celeb kids sporting them complete with mini beer tankards and all.

tigermoth · 18/05/2005 07:01

I'm fascinated by bruno now - please tell me more about this wonder child.

When I ran a second hand clothes stall, I used to pick up the odd pair of Liederhoson, usually very small sizes. Every now and again, a certain couple would visit my stall and ask for them. They would try them on, but only buy them if they were very, very tight fitting. I didn't enquire more....

I know of someone who buys new designer children's clothes from TKmaxx, then sells them on ebay to japanese buyers. She's apparently making so much money, she gave up her day job.

loulabelle222 · 18/05/2005 08:01

i like it that people want to dress their child differently. Noone understands that if i could dress my ds in all white i would. I think it looks lovely on him. Today he is wearing ..white trousers, longsleeve white polo vest and navy tank top. Wish i could find a white one though!

dd looks fat today in her white adidas trainers, B for Benetton cardigan and h&m baggy pants - she such a trend setter!

trash glam its a look we regular aspire to in this household in labels of varing price

tigermoth · 18/05/2005 09:20

loulabelle, who are these people who don't understand you want to dress your ds in all white? Lots of sports label outfits are mostly white or very pale colours. Judging by how many are on sale in the shops, they seem popular with lots of parents.

aloha · 18/05/2005 09:26

Oooh, Loulabelle, where did you get the navy tank top? I really, really want one for my ds and can't find one anywhere. I think he sounds adorable. But then, being a tank top fan, I would.

Cam, you know what you said about this thread being last past-life regression? I have also just had a huge flashback to owning a dirndle skirt and blouse myself. Eva Braun eat your heart out! What was it with the 70s and Bavarian national dress?

tigermoth · 18/05/2005 09:43

you and your tank tops, aloha talking of which, I am very fond of my black V neck tank top. It covers a multitude of sins. I need new one ( for me, not ds).Anyone know who sells V neck tank tops at the moment? I don't mind buying second hand.

loulabelle222 · 18/05/2005 10:29

i got ds tank top from united colours of benetton. My sisters think i dress my ds like a little girl , i love him in white ,cardigans,trousers,shorts,t-shirts everything!

I confess to being a designer clothes junkie for my girls. Next is all pink or khaki, M&S/Mothercare is nasty quality and Like the rest of you I want something different for my kids. I LOVE french clothes - the quality is excellent and the little touches make the designs streets ahead of the High Street stuff. I try to buy it second hand from EBay because it's so expensive new, but if I can't get what I want from EBay I confess I do but it new.

We need more colours (green, blue, orange) please, better quality and french designs!

tarantula · 18/05/2005 10:47

I get the opposite tho with dd as lots of people think I dress her like a boy(which I dont think I do just dont dress her in pink frills). When she was little she had this gorgeous velour top and trousers in burnt orange and my little niece refused to believe she was a girl. Made me laugh that did.

loulabelle222 · 18/05/2005 10:54

i was at lakeside shopping centre once ,changing ds and a women came in with her little boy and said to her son are you waving to the pretty little girl? I didn't say anything , i just thought awww my ds must be beautiful if he is being mistaken for a girl!
