Hi my ds is 13m and i find it so hard buying nice things for him. Of course he has got a few bits from mothercare, next, marks and spencers and asda but occasionally i would like him to wear something different. These places never seem to offer anything different, they offer babies acting as old men in shirts and ripped jeans.
There are a few children shops near me and i just can't resist it. For ds first birthday he wore an adorable miniman outfit that was expensive but he looked beautiful.
What do you all think about designer baby clothes?

Lol Aloha, wish it had been the 70's then I'd be a decade younger than I am now
So looks like our family were fashion trendsetters then, who'd have thought it, I've always thought my mother just had no taste

Benetton, of course! I wonder if I can buy online...?
Cam, wow, yes, very trendsetting. Tasteless, yes, but trendsetting

A nightmare vision of a Teutonic Buck's Fizz has just flashed across my mind Aloha, we could have whipped off the dirndls and the boys could have gone in for a bit of thigh and knee slapping

For all you tank top fans-Next will be selling tank tops for children next season. It seems that the gypsy/peasant look is going to be around for a while too,as have seen peasant style blouses & dresses. It takes me back to the days when me & my female cousins all had matching dirndl skirts & blouses in the 1970's.....

well...if you feel the babies are all dressed the same go to ebay and buy something from a few years ago, that should be a slightly different fashion...or! ...gets excited...get your granny to knit something...or getting yet exciteder (?!) learn to knit! bring back the old ways...bet i'd end up with a 3 armed creation or something similar! designer clothes are are a waste of money in my opinion, they may be worth a little more than the highstreet if they are good quality material or workmanship but the huge markup on them for the name! no thankyou! if people have that much to waste they should give some to charity! ...or me! seriously, would only buy on ebay, prices they go for on there are about what i would say the item was worth! ...having said all this ds just turned one and without my knowing dp went out and spent 90.00!!!!!! on timberland dungarees, t-shirt and cap!! was gob smacked, could have brought his whole summer wardrobe for that...or a snazzy dress for me! he siad it was a special occassion, 1st birthday and i suppose in his credit he brought them huge so they should last at least 6mths! i'm of course now terrified to put him in them and get tomato stains or something on them or lose the cap having been thrown out of the buggy by ds, so someone will end up with an ebay bargain because it'll all hardly be dared worn! joke! couldn't sell it on ebay must keep it so when ds grows up i can say 'look at the designer clothes wi lavished on you' and he can be awed! he he! ...seriously though am going to castrate dp at the end of the month when the bills come in!

oh about white...i read that elizabeth hurley only wears it. Apparently its a status symbol because its so hard to keep clean therefore implying you can afford to throw it/dry clean it all/have people to clean it for you!

Cam · 19/05/2005 08:49

Hasn't E. Hurley got a washing macine and some bio powder then?

loulabelle222 · 19/05/2005 09:40

I always get my moneys worth out of ds clothes and buy them big. They never look silly. My dp bought ds 1st birthday outfit too. It was white long shorts with navy stripes, a navy t-shirt with detail on it, a reversible white and navy stripe and navy jacket and matching hat. It is adorable . I like the baby dior outfit but refused to buy it because dior comes up tiny and the quality is rubbish, ds £2 ethel austin pyjamas are much better than that!

I used to spend quite a bit on my girls clothes. Then I lost over two stone and dropped two dress sizes (16 to 12). I can now buy clothes I love from New Look for next to nothing - so I've gone down market with my own clothes and with the kids - but I look better because I've got all my confidence back. Quality kids clothes haven't lasted becuase my youngest (4) would rather have something brand new for £2.50 from Tesco that she's picked out herself than a designer hand-me-down that's already sat in the wardrobe. I get a real buzz from seeing the girls looking great and knowing how much money I've saved. I can buy "little and often" and there's more left for me to update my own wardrobe from frumpy mummy to yummy mummy

My 3 dds get lots of clothes from my older nieces & pass things down to each other. They feel it is a real treat to buy clothes (we don't go shopping very often) & so I take them to Asda where they can choose what they like & I know it won't cost a fortune. I never "save" anything for best as they grow too fast & they love to choose what to wear themselves. Designer stuff does not seem worth the money.

flobbleflobble · 20/05/2005 22:02

I love original clothes & hate logos! I buy loads of stuff for my dd from all over the place - first/second hand, designer sales, Asda - there are fab things from most places!

I like second hand gear because other kids will not have the same stuff! Everything gets sold on later and higher priced stuff holds its value better so probably doesn't cost any more once you have re-sold it!

I like it when dd gets compliments on her outfits - not sure she gives a damn though! And yes, she looks great in clothes & I no longer do so it's all a bit vicarious!
