Does anyone else by their children designer clothes apart from me?

Hi my ds is 13m and i find it so hard buying nice things for him. Of course he has got a few bits from mothercare, next, marks and spencers and asda but occasionally i would like him to wear something different. These places never seem to offer anything different, they offer babies acting as old men in shirts and ripped jeans.
There are a few children shops near me and i just can't resist it. For ds first birthday he wore an adorable miniman outfit that was expensive but he looked beautiful.
What do you all think about designer baby clothes?

Me too, can't be bothered with this anymore.

lou33 · 16/05/2005 18:04

have i got to read this thread through and put my mod hat on?

SecondhandRose · 16/05/2005 18:04

I do sometimes wonder whether journalists use MN to get ideas for articles.

The best bargain I ever got was a Christian Lacroix t-shirt for DD at Age Concern, it was 29p.
Have bought some great stuff from boot sales too.

We usually buy DD's (6) stuff from Next and the occasional special outfit from Pampolina. DS age 10 usually has his gear from Gap or Quiksilver/Animal but quite often wears football stuff. I recycle nearly all the clothes on UKP and Ebay.

I absolutely love Primark, bought some very Boden cords with the adjustable waist for only £2.00

This is a ridiculour thread - if we were a school then ALL of you would be standing in a corner.

It has been said so many times, walk away if you don't like it . . .

It is threads like this that deter newcomers - shame on you. I feel really disappointed.

nutcracker · 16/05/2005 18:48

So someone can come on here and be insulting but then we can't be insulting back ????

Then that person will carry on being insulting and getting away with it.

Like I said further down, if she can't take it she shouldn't dish it out.

sparklymieow · 16/05/2005 18:48

It's taken me ages to read this thread. I knit my kids' clothes out of recycled spaghetti and shredded wheat.

Oh please. I was quite enjoying peacefully chatting about clothes and this happens. People saying that those who dress their kids in designer baby clothes should be spending hte money on food instead (like there are lots of children wearing Young England or Petit Bateau who are also be starved), lots of inverted snobbery, the suggestion that spending money on children's clothes is somehow to ignore the sufferings of children in Africa, or the implication that those who buy certain types of clothes would prevent their children from playing or getting dirty...
I hardly think buying a miniman outfit is so reprehensible and I think that picking up posters on their spelling and grammar is just awful and cruel - and dreadfully snobby to boot. So kick me. We all live in glass houses here. We all make mistakes.
I am 41 and not in the least offended by Loulabelle's comment about being young and into fashion. I think on the whole she's probably right. I have totally given up on fashion! I even sold my Jimmy Choos on Ebay. Still liked seeing ds in his Cacharel dungarees though. And yes it probably is my 'vanity' speaking. I can't even be bothered to feel offended by that.
I also hate most High Street clothes for boys, and am a sucker for gorgeous frocks for dd. I prefer Rachel Riley to Primark, if I'm honest - though I can't afford it. Everyone has something they spend money on that other people think is a waste.
I hardly think that saying that the stuff on the Next website is 'toot' (an expression I have never heard before, presumably because of my advanced age) is a personal insult!
I said I like a certain children's clothes website on another thread and lots of posters were absolutely revolted by the stuff...how could I take that personally??
If you can't even peaceably discuss kids clothes here, what is the point.
