hello

OP posts:
tigermoth · 15/05/2005 19:10

well yes, enid, there is that

tigermoth · 15/05/2005 19:11

I realise you cannot speak for pie, and don't have any axe to grind with you hula, but it's possible, then the leaving off the mumsnet link is not a trivial oversight.

Hulababy · 15/05/2005 19:13

I have no idea tigermoth...honestly I don't. And I have no intention of asking Pie why - it is her site and she may choose what links she wants on there as far as I am concerned.

Hey, maybe in MN want a link from there so much - there could be some form of reciprocal agreement, who knows

And I am not cross at anyone particular at all, especially not yourself...but cross with the nastiness all the time of these threads.

tigermoth · 15/05/2005 19:31

My opinion only, but I feel that if Sabian wanted to bury the hatchet and end the fued as he says he does, adding a mumsnet link to the MO site would be a small but significant step.

At least some of the MO team were orignally active members of mumsnet, and the MO site was created after mumsnet. So the MO team must have been influenced by mumsnet - how could they not have been? Surely that alone means mumsnet deserves a mention in the MO web directory? It seems obvious to me anyway. Leaving aside any speculation about who did what (I haven't followed all of that) these are the simple facts.

Enid · 15/05/2005 19:34

if they are threatening mumsnet with possible libel action as sabian's thread implies, they are hardly likely to put a link to it are they?

Hulababy · 15/05/2005 19:36

But that was so long ago now. When it first started the link was there. It is now well over a year ago. The members of both are settled, and not in competition. As I said - there is NO reason why Pie should have a link. I know that if it were me and my site that was getting such a slatting on here so much recently then I would certainly not want such a link! There'd be no benefot to it, surely.

Let's face it - MN is neever going to have a reciporal link to MO, so there is no arguement really IMO.

There are no answers. Pie is not able (through choice) to post on here to give her views and reasons. And there is no reason why she should have to either.

There is no link to MO on MN.
There in no link on MN to MO.

That simple really.

Enid · 15/05/2005 19:38

hasn't really had a slating though has it? I didn't particularly like the look of it and cod was pissed and that was about it wasn't it?

tigermoth · 15/05/2005 19:41

That is a very good answer to my original question, enid. I only skim read sabian's message. I am surprised, I can't see there's enough there for libel action, but hey, what do I know!

Enid · 15/05/2005 19:42

doncha love it when men puff their chests out and get all swaggery

Hulababy · 15/05/2005 19:45

I really don't see how this thread is benefiting either MN or MO right now. As you say the thread owner was drunk when she posted and untruths were said, and corrected. Surely the matter is now over, not that the original poster is no longer here.

I can't answer for MO , Pie or Sabian. I wouldn't want to anyway. Just fed up, and cross, of feeling like I have to defind friends

This is my last post on this thread.

Enid · 15/05/2005 19:46

I think if someone from a rival site threatens libel action everyone on mumsnet has a right to discuss it!

tigermoth · 15/05/2005 19:46

I know MO has had criticsim here, but also lots of people have posted messages of praise for MO, or at least been neutral. People have posted lots of MO links too. The Mumsnet team usually do not delete them. When I did a google search for the MO site today, the first listing was a talk thread on mumsnet - one that contained lots of lots of links and positive messages about MO.

Yep, I'd say that was fair batters! The bit that impresses me is Coddy getting pissed at Waitrose!

Enid · 15/05/2005 20:18

WideWebWitch · 15/05/2005 20:18

Much as we are loathe to add grist to the mill... we thought it might be sensible to clarify a few misconceptions about mumsnet's postion re MO. First there is, and never has been a feud as far as we know - and we're sure we would have noticed had there been one .

Secondly Pie is not nor ever was banned from mumsnet - she was a much valued member who often ran the swaps here, just as Champs does now. When we realised she'd started her own website for mums we wrote to her wondering if it would be sensible if she stopped administering the swaps on mumsnet. And that was it really. She decided to leave, there was a day or two of gossip and intrigue and not much else really until a few weeks ago when Cod wondered something aloud.

We at mumsnet hq harbour no ill-will, as we made clear to Pie at the time. As many have said there are loads of good parenting resources out there and if we spent our time worrying about all of them we'd be even greyer and sadder than we already are (speaking more for myself here than my more youthful-looking, glamorous colleagues).

Fairly uniquely we do allow mentions and links to the competition here on mumsnet (and to MO more than most as it turns out ). Possibly, if we thought we could keep all other parenting sites a secret we'd be tempted to try but we suspect you're all way too google-savvy to swallow that; and on a slightly more serious note then if we really are to stick by our philosophy of being here to help parents then we have to be big enough to admit that in some cases other genres of parenting site might be more helpful. It's horses for courses after all, which happily is a top cliche to round up on. So peace and love to all.
