Hire a hall, get the kids to come in fancy dress. Party games, dancing. Food. Cake. Done.

oggsfrog · 08/09/2009 17:41

How many for? How old will he be? 6?
Cinema?
Does it have to be a party per se?

Good dvd and make popcorn and pizza
Get craft kits and let them all decorate bags/eggcups/treasure chests...

er... will think more and get back.

For DS1's 6th birthday we took him and four of his friends to the cinema in the morning then to Pizza Express for lunch afterwards.
Pizza Express decorated the table for us (provided by me) and stored the cake in their fridge. We ordered them all the children's set meals so it wasn't too expensive.

LyraSilvertongue · 08/09/2009 17:59

I've just realised, now my two are both on school dinners, I don't have to cook them a meal in the evening. Woohoo! They're having cheese and tomato toasties.

LyraSilvertongue · 08/09/2009 18:07

Its been scorchio here today. Had to get the vest tops back out.

Berrie · 08/09/2009 18:38

Yep 6.
Don't feel great about driving other peoples kids around just yet and the parents seem to stay at parties.

I could obviously do party games with perhaps more confidence than someone who isn't a teacher but it still does not appeal.

Some good ideas there though so something to think about.

oggsfrog · 08/09/2009 20:29

How many kids to be entertained?

OP posts:
Berrie · 09/09/2009 08:29

Er...depends if I'm paying per head or not Can't see him thinking of more than 9-10 friends.

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2009 09:09

Why don't you want it at home?

LyraSilvertongue · 09/09/2009 09:18

This thread might give you some ideas.
What about hiring a bouncy castle? Some can fit inside a hall.

Berrie · 09/09/2009 09:26

Wouldn't mind it at home if I knew the parents would bog off.
I don't have the space for them and the parents and I don't want them poking their noses round my things. Was the parents staying just a 4+ thing do you think?

oggsfrog · 09/09/2009 09:44

Set up a trestle table in your conservatory, cover with a cheap paper/plastic tablecloth (2 for £1 @ £ shop,) buy some craft kits and the bits needed to complete them, set the chidlers loose. Minimum supervision required if you choose your crafts well.

Chuck some pizzas in oven and do popcorn in microwave, sit kids in front of dvd and serve fud.

They get to take home what they've made so none of this party bag palaver.

Job done.

Parents tend not to stay at six-year-olds' parties here. But at DS1's 7th party one parent unexpectedly stayed and just hung around getting in the way and asking stupid questions while I was running around like a headless chicken trying to organise 20 seven-year-olds.
Another mum stayed and helped (pre-arranged) and she was a God-send.

Berrie · 09/09/2009 11:15

You've both been really helpful. Thanks.

oggsfrog · 09/09/2009 11:41

Baker Ross - great for crafty stuff. Loads of ideas.

Good morning ladies.
Can't decide what to do today. It's a choice between:
:: finish painting the loo and change light fittings (I hate doing electrics), hang mirror and loo roll holder
:: Go to town and buy new school trousers, generally float aimlessly around the shops
:: Go to the carpet shop and finally get the stair carpet ordered (they're just bare wood atm)
:: Watch more episodes of True Blood (I'm up to episode 8, series 2)
The last option is the most tempting...

Berrie · 10/09/2009 09:18

That's great Oggs thanks.

I finished Midnight Sun then had to continue the story in Twilight. It makes you feel a bit funny doesn't in? Where is my Edward?

Not that I can see my Edward any more. He's been over written with RP. I wonder what he looked like? Funny because Bella isn't the actress when I read.

Ds laughed at me this morning because I looked fat. I was worried that it was my bum but he said it was my tummy. I had to get him to point to which bit of course. He is right...that bit has grown since my back trouble and has started to bother me a lot.

I need to try not to drink tonight. School mornings are too hard with a slight hangover and it makes me a bit depressed anyway.

How are you going with True Blood Oggs? What about series 2 Lyra?

LyraSilvertongue · 10/09/2009 09:43

Series 2? I'm up to episode 8. That Maryanne woman is scary.
What did you think of Midnight Sun? My Edward's still there. I've managed to banish RP/Gargoyle face from my mind when reading.
Did you read City of Glass?

LyraSilvertongue · 10/09/2009 09:44

I've decided on the shopping/carpet shop combo as it's a nice sunny day.

Berrie · 10/09/2009 12:09

You might have caught up by the time the series finale is available to download.

No not Started Ciy of Glass yet...probably on Friday afternoon if I don't get hooked into reading the next Twilight books. Don't really want to get sucked into a Twilight haze...I'm quite partial to a bit of RP so it's different for me.

oggsfrog · 10/09/2009 12:31

I've managed to get sucked back into Twilight. Well Rpattz really swoon, and the Twilight soundtrack. Listening to him now as I type.

Berrie · 10/09/2009 14:57

Have finished Twilight (again) though skipped boring bits...decisions decisions...book two or watch the film? I reckon film for a bit of an RP hit

oggsfrog · 11/09/2009 14:09

Just because
