Ciao, welcome!

OP posts:
Bucharest · 22/05/2009 12:32

I'm eating my disgusting but strangely satisfying wurstel panino, then I'm going to go to the station and see if they have a machine....They used to, so hopefully can do them there rather than having to go and argue with Old Git again....

francagoestohollywood · 22/05/2009 13:22

Couldn't he at least sell you some fave? They are delicious!

Carta is useless then, if you can't use it for espatrio.

Bucharest · 22/05/2009 13:30

He should bloomin' well give me some!
And to top my day, nursery just rang to say dd is crying and complaining of mal d'orecchio and teacher already has about 5 kids off with a mild form of "orecchione"...
My cup truly runneth over today- and dp is in Lecce so not available to go and get her early.....
Off to the station. May be some time.

francagoestohollywood · 22/05/2009 13:44

orecchioni? Oh dear

TheMysticMasseuse · 22/05/2009 14:06

oh bucharest what a crappy day... thinking of you and sending you some cool, windy london vibes.

hello everyone else.

will come back later, right now i have absolutely no energy or wits...

Bucharest · 22/05/2009 14:43

Ooh wind sounds fab!
Back from station with new, cheaper, and I must say brighter set of prints, which, praise be, measure a princely 30mm so should be OK!
I'm beginning to think Italian bureaucracy is wonderful compared to Brits....I mean, at least if my Italian photo was too short the bloke in the booth would just tip me a wink and a sexist comment and I'd pull my top down a bit further, he'd look at dd and say "che bella bambina" and everything would be OK......
Perhaps there is something to be said for cittadinanza after all......

Sputnik · 22/05/2009 15:35

I know exactly what you mean Bucharest, I must admit to finagling my way through all sorts of situations here that I would never have got away with in the UK. However at least you know with the UK system exactly where you stand and that everyone will be treated the same even if they are someone-s cousin-s friend-s next door neighbour, or have nicer tits than you

Rosa · 22/05/2009 20:45

Question - A British licence with a British Address driving an Italian car gets stopped and fined and 5 effin points taken off as I answered my cellulare ...how do they get registered on my licence ????
This is my first ever violation in 23 yrs of driving I will never live it down with my father !!!! We went to the beach and then dd went and played on this terrazza with a massive sea view with 2 friends from nido in a paddling pool - she is knackered. And Dh and I are at the terrazza....( We saw our apt for the mare - it is nice simple but nice - good position)
Sma milk - I gave dd that in the UK at 7 mths she had been on Melin in Italy and she never even notiiced the swap!
LOL at the colpa di aria sore thorat !!!
Bucharest nightmare re the photo I am dreading having to re do mine and the dd's but we do have a good photographer. I still have to register minirosa with teh consulate....Add to the list of things to do !
Too humid here for my liking its horrible.

Penthesileia · 22/05/2009 21:12

Oh Rosa, how annoying! Are you sure they will be added? It used to be the case that points weren't carried over from country to country

I know this because my DH used to blame his speed crimes, etc., on his sister back in Italy, so that his licence here would be clean (e.g. say she was driving). She's apparently a very dangerous driver here in the UK.

However, they may have changed that now.

OP posts:
DamonBradleylovesPippi · 22/05/2009 21:28

yea I did that for a friend once as well. Don;t think is the case anymore though. Having said that I don't know how they would do that.

Camomilla · 22/05/2009 22:56

Oh, Bucharest, hope you have a better day tomorrow!!

Rosa, I've tried looking it up only a couple of wks ago (my french uncle asked my mum if she'd mind him "transferring" his points on her french licence as my aunt is refusing to let him use hers - as did my mum) and found this. as you see, I think it's a bit of a grey area. I'm sure there's more info out there, but tbh I went through pages of maybes so gave up. from experience at work I know that in the case of an accident, whether in UK or Italy, they can check the records in the other country, but I guess if you behave yourself from now on, you'll be ok .

Brangelina · 22/05/2009 23:12

Bucharest, you have the most colourful adventures. I'll never go to a photographer again after he made me look more shite than I normally do from a booth. There must be an unwritten law whereby photos taken expressly for passport purposes turn out hideously. Or they do in my case anyway. I hope your DD hasn't got orrecchioni.

Rosa, my cousin got points on her licence when driving out here last year and somehow 10 months later, when she also got points for speediing in the UK, the ones from Italy magically appeared. What I want to know is how you didn't get fined for still driving on a UK licence when you've been resident here for so long???? Has the law changed? I got told way back in 98 that I would have to convert and that it would cost me something like 200K lire (can't actually remember the figure but it was pretty high). Also, isn't your insurance higher? Do tell all! Not that I'm in a rush to start driving again, but you never know, I may decide to join the hordes running old ladies down at zebra crossings. I'll need to find my licence first though, which might be tricky. It's probably been eaten by the moths by now.

Brangelina · 22/05/2009 23:14

Tis far too hot here, though luckily not humid (yet!). If it's like this now what's it going to be like in July???? I am still pale though, no time to go outside.

TheMysticMasseuse · 23/05/2009 10:41

hello from london where it's a wonderful day today... and i am packing for our holiday in rural austria, where it's going to be raining the whole week.

i am a bit . also really dont want to be spending a whole week with inlaws.

bah

sorry i am a bit rubbish at the mo, will try to cheer up when i come back!

Rosa · 23/05/2009 12:49

Oh I got fined as well .....Eu150 ....but that was for the cellulare bit
I have a european licence as my old ' pink one' was stolen so I diddn't have to change it even though I am resident in Italy and at a different address is on my licence - they weren't bothered with that at all . They said it is fine . I was ready to invent a story aboiut why it was my old address.
As for insirance it is the car that is insured here not the drivers so not a problem . Dh laughed when I told him and said don't you dare pay it wait for the domanda to arrive - typical he knows I won't do that !

Rosa · 23/05/2009 12:50

Mystic was about to say I would love to be in AUstria for a week maybe a bit fresher...
I bought dd some birkenstocks and I have decided that they are too small - she wore them home so they are obviously worn we did try oin about 10 pairs of sandals and these looked like the best option ...now am not sure anybody want a pair of size 24s????

Sputnik · 23/05/2009 15:20

Would they be siutable for a boy Rosa? DS is size 24. I live in dread of being stopped with my UK licence one day, but not enough to be bothered to change it . It's one of those things I keep meaning to do.

Rosa · 23/05/2009 17:53

No white sparkles !!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it is the Uk european then its ok or so they say . If the old style pink or green then no ....
Bu*ger is humid ...... BF holding dd in a towel .....as we stick otherwise!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 23/05/2009 20:12

Rosa how old is you dd1 again? She's not the same age as my dd1 is she? Mine's got a size 29 !

Rosa · 23/05/2009 20:25

Pippi she is 3.2 she has a 25 /26 foot but Birkenstocks calze tanto so we got a 25 ....SHe has been running round ok in them but I think that a mm more and her big toe will be too long !
Right off to sit in the fridge ...Poor dd said I can't sleep I am all sweaty poor thing - its not that bad tonight as the breeze has come up - I think she is playing it up a bit !

Sputnik · 23/05/2009 20:49

Think we'll pass on the white sparkes then!
Luckily it's rarely too hot here at night. I am suffering with hayfever every time I go out though.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 23/05/2009 20:56

blimey I struggle to imagine how you girls feel... here is the usual - been wearing the same clothes virtually all year.

Ahh Rosa makes sense.

bucharest I meant to say, did not get all that caffafle (sp?) with photographer. Shouldn't he know how to do them properly? Here we went to the same photographer who took dd1 when baby. they put the babies on a white beanbag and hey presto. done. they look a bit mussolini-like but that passes the checklist!

Penthesileia · 23/05/2009 21:32

LOL LOL LOL @ Mussolini-like babies!!!

My equivalent of that is that I used to say that all babies look a bit like Winston Churchill (particularly since ole Winnie was fond of wearing a giant velvet romper suit!).

It was very warm and sunny here today, though nothing like Italian weather, obviously.

Thanks so much to everyone for the advice about the formula! I think we will try the neolatte (thanks for the link gio71) but take some SMA as a backup in case. Will make sure its packed in my DH case tho so its his pants they can search through! I'm sitting in cold rainy Scotland reading this and feeling very jealous of your heat - hope some of it is still around in June! Thanks again x

Bucharest · 24/05/2009 10:01

Morning all....I'm doing the Twilight-extra thing again while dp and dd are at the beach...
Rosa- eeek to driving licence....
Dd is absolutely fine- I forgot to factor in nursery-teacher-hypochondria with the ear thing- she has a swollen gland, but I'd say it's a tonsilly thing....
Our dreadful landlord came yesterday to take away the spare fridgefreezer that has been cluttering up the storeroom for 10 yrs....His name is Pellegrini......after he'd gone, dd was bemoaning the fact that she hadn't been to the beach....."ma oggi non era possibile andare al mare, stavamo per uscire e poi e arrivato Berlusconi e non era piu' possibile....." (must be the shortarsed astro-turf head thing....) Made us laugh anyway, she is convinced that that is who came to hoik the fridge away...
