I have to say I'm with the "cat-haters" although I don't hate cats, I do hate the fact that we spend a lot of time, money and effort making our garden nice, only to have cats come and sh*t all over the place. When we go out to eat our tea, we're driven back indoors by the stench. When we want to let our neices and nephews play, we can't because they could get cat mess in their eyes or put it in their mouths etc.
Sure, cats "cover up" their mess with the top soil - but that's soil we've paid for, they wreck the flower beds we've tended to and again, paid for and spend hours creating. Do you see my point? I spend hours in my garden and have told neighbours that I shoot their cats with a water pistol or the garden hose when I see them to try adn deter them for using my garden, my lovely sanctuary garden, as a toilet.
I know there's not a lot that can be done, but surely cats can be trained to use their own garden ffs? Surely they're not that stupid?

OMG have just come online and I think it was me

I threw a ball at neighbour's cat today, well actually at the fence under its bum in an aim to make it really uncomfortable for it to keep coming in my garden

it doesn't just poo in the borders, but all over the glass and I have 3 pre-schoolers. in the last 2 months it has seemed as though I haven't been able to just throw open the doors and let the older ones go out and play

it is making my life miserable and I hate the fact that it has suddenly moved into the neighbourhood, I had no problems like this last summer

the other day I had friends round and the kids had a picnic outside on a picnic blanket - 2 of the mothers found 2 different patches of cat poo that had appeared in the last hour

it is making me sick and miserable and tired, I hate it

Ithinkitwasme · 29/04/2005 19:08

all over the gRass not gLass

morningpaper · 29/04/2005 19:09

hehe I am a cat owner and lover, but I don't give a toss that my neighbour is always hosing my cat and chucking things at it. Cat shit is disgusting and annoying. It's ok for me to pay the price of cat shit in my garden, but it's a bit much to ask all my neighbours to do the same!

fairyfly · 29/04/2005 19:11

Did you get someone banging on your door before, i think it was me?

Ithinkitwasme · 29/04/2005 19:11

maybe I should go and talk to Joanne23

it was only a blow up football from Ikea though, but I did chuck it hard

Ithinkitwasme · 29/04/2005 19:12

I didn't hear anyone TBH, but never do around tea-time

Ithinkitwasme · 29/04/2005 19:12

I am now freaked out that they post on mn

woowoo · 29/04/2005 19:13

I'd make sure you get a good hard leather one for next time!! If she has a problem, she should keep her cat indoors, or better still get rid of it.

nikcola · 29/04/2005 19:15

please tell me this is a joke?

Miaou · 29/04/2005 19:16

Haven't read the whole thread but just have to stick my oar in.

I've got two cats, and consider myself to be a cat lover.

If it was me I would be straight round to the neighbours house.... to apologise for my cat crapping in their garden. I would also give her a water pistol to aim at my cat if he chose to try crapping in her garden again.

I DON'T consider it cruel. I DO consider it reasonable that my neighbour will not want to clear up after my cat. However I DON'T consider that I can be held responsible for where my cat goes.

We just moved house a few weeks ago, and from having our own detatched bungalow surrounded by garden on four sides, we are now in a semi-detatched house with much smaller gardens. My heart was in my mouth about where my cats would choose to "go" - fortunately they chose our garden. However I would have had NO hesitation in suggesting the above tactics to my neighbours if they had started using their garden.

I don't think this makes me cruel in any sense of the word.

QueenEagle · 29/04/2005 19:18

no. We are seriously going to arm ourselves with AK47s, machine guns, airguns, big leather footballs, great big medicine balls, hand grenades and potato guns to rid our neighborhoods of this feline poo poo phenomenon.

fairyfly · 29/04/2005 19:19

and a set of clippers

Ithinkitwasme · 29/04/2005 19:20

What should I do?

What should I say?

I really really don't want to be on bad terms with neighbours, it is a very community-minded area and we've never had any problems (have been here for 9 years).

if it is me Joanne I am sorry I upset you I wasn't aiming for your cat and I am a good person honestly

btw I can tell if it is me, because your house would back on to mine and not be next door (still have same next door neighbours I've had since I moved in)

hunkermunker · 29/04/2005 19:21

I like cats, but I don't have one. However, to even the score with next door, I fling poo from DS's nappies over the fence.

Twiglett · 29/04/2005 19:22

I think that's fairly amazing that you both post here, I am assuming you both have name changed btw

AngelCakeUmm · 29/04/2005 19:23

OMG pls tell me you are joking Ithinkitwasme?
how funny would that be ........

hunkermunker · 29/04/2005 19:23

This thread puts me in mind of the one about the nanny, was it?

WideWebWitch · 29/04/2005 19:23

I've only read half the thread but Joanne, you want to start a war with your neighbours, then you go and have a slanging match. I'd advise against it though because

a) she was completley within her rights imo, it was her garden, she doesn't want poo in it, she has small children. I wouldn't want cat poo (or any other type come to think of it) either, toxiplasmosis is dangerous.
b) she didn't hit it so what's your problem?
c) you've got to carry on living next door to her and strained relations won't be nice for any of you
d) you're in the wrong imo and unnecessarily upset and aggressive about this.
e) You need to calm down imo and see if you feel the same in the morning and in the light of the many many people on this thread who think she was justified.

I hate the fact that in this country we very often care more about animals than about small children, this perfectly illustrates this sad state of affairs imo.

fairyfly · 29/04/2005 19:23

i think it was me, say what colour the cat is, and your hair, and maybe your front door..........

AngelCakeUmm · 29/04/2005 19:24

hunkermunker i like that idea lol

hunkermunker · 29/04/2005 19:24

I think Joanne's in the wrong here. I want to fling poo at her cat. Does that make me a bad person?

WideWebWitch · 29/04/2005 19:25

Oo er, just read the update from Ithinkitwasme, how interesting! Oh go on, all make up here and that can be the end of that and a lovely mumsnet happy ending!

tarantula · 29/04/2005 19:25

No hm but do you think you might be pregnant?

hunkermunker · 29/04/2005 19:26

Oh, Christ, maybe. I'll ask the gerbil.
