Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:29

Oh franca. That's how I think it'll be for me too...

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:29

Sputnik

YOU GUYS! You are not helping me visualise going back to work!

Sputnik · 09/05/2009 21:31

Yes they still do that Ikea thing, now in black and red too!!!!
I have spent far, far too long on the ikea website recently

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:33

well we are telling you the worst.
You can have a dd like my first who never cried and is an angel. Dh and I have concluded that she must be the next dalai lama (as in movie with richard gere) as she honestly has got not a bad bone in her body. ever. and I am not saying it because she is my dd as doubt stubborn little minidd is anything like it.

Sputnik · 09/05/2009 21:33

Not all babies are necessarily like that, mine are both mammone! And they settle down and enjoy it eventually.

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:39

No, I just wanted to be honest . The first times it's hard for you, and - to be fair - the DC too.
But 99% of times it works for the best. For both parents and children. FWIW all my friends haven been happy with their decision to go back to work and their children are well adjusted and lovely.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:40

LOL @ mammone!

Your DD sounds lovely, Pippi. I hope we'll all get to meet in July.

Yeah, I know she'll be fine. It's me I'm worried about!

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:43

I think most babies/young children are mammoni (and they have stages of being more or less mammoni), but some are more emotional than others, or just show it in different manners. There are children who are fine the first months they spend at nursery (sorry, I don't have a clue about nannies, but I'm quite an expert on nurseries ) and then go on having a clingier time or being more difficult. Others who cry the first month and then go on having a fab time. Etc etc.
The most important thing is that you trust your childcare provider and are willing to "lose" a bit of control over your little one. And trust your child too.

That is so true about the control thing. I know that I'm worried about the emotional side of it, but it's also that loss of control, as you say.

Ach. I know it will all work out. And I want to go back to work. But eeeeek!

Sputnik · 09/05/2009 21:48

That is so true, I absolutely love the woman that runs our nursery, I trust her 100%. I am quite sad to leave that behind as we're moving in fact (that and the fact the nursery costs ess than half what it would in Rome)

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:55

I'm lucky, though, that the structure of my job means that I can squeeze in hours in the evening, etc., so that on the days I don't have to go to the office, I can spend half-days, etc., with DD, so it won't be a full-on 9-5, Mon-Fri absence, IYSWIM.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:56

you have a great job!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:57

hei no one has commented on my teaching italian idea [broncio emoticon]

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:57

I think Penthe you'll start to feel more positive once you've found a nanny you like

On a totally different note, I've been laughing a lot with this

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:59

I COMMENTED ON YOUR JOB! I think it is a very very very good idea!

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 22:00

Oh yes, Pippi, forgot to say, tis a great idea . Would it be in private schools?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 22:00

talking of utube I've taught dd1 all the words from this song.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 22:01

I do have a great job. I am very lucky in this respect (and many others, actually ).

I know. Hope we can find someone nice and loving. Unlike the rest of the nanny-hiring population, I don't give a shit about whether the nanny will do the washing or ironing or cook an evening meal (seriously, people expect their nannies to do loads). I just want her to really look after my PFB DD.

Off to click your link now...

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 22:02

penthe you were exhonerated (sp?).

don't know franca either I guess.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 22:04

Arghhh - those Japanese cartoons used to freak me out when I was little - those weird drops of sweat flying off their heads when they were stressed or guilty or frightened!

Where was that from, franca? What's the voice-over?

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 22:06

Never heard of Annette Pippi !

Yes, Penthe, I agree, I always wonder how people expect nannies to also do the housework. I wasn't able to do anything when my dc where little (that's why they were confined to nursery )

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 22:09

shall we talk about au pairs, i.e. slaves?

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 22:10

Penthe, the voice over is from the "Gialappa's band", a trio who started to work in the early 80s for Radio Popolare, which is a left wing independent radio based in Milan. They used to comment live on football matches and then they got famous and started to work in Mediaset in the early 1990s. They are great, ime and launched lots of comedians. I like them a lot.
