Poor you, Pippi. I don't suppose you're on a laptop and can MN in bed like me?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:04

no bedroom to high up, connection poor. but I'm well comfy on sofa watching grand design with a cuppa.

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:04

Hello there . I'm well thanks, it's been a really warm day and we spent it with friends and their children, which is always lovely.

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:06

Stay sweetie! lets talk desks. I love both the habitat and the ikea ones (couldn't open the JL link penthe). Did you see anything in conran shop? I love a desk from DePadova, which is scandalously expensive, but gorgeous... will try to find it, hang on...

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:06

Aaaaahhh. Good old Kevin Mcleod. The thinking woman's crumpet. Though, as a friend said to me today, Grand Designs has rather descended into "rich people weeping about taps".

Nice, franca. I had a college reunion today, which was pleasant.

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:08

uber posh desk

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:09

lol lol lol at "rich people crying about tabs"

Oh did you like it? How are you feeling about going back to work penthe?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:09

very nice. but need bigger and sturdier. you have not seen how messy I am on a desk.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:09

That is a very pretty desk.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:10

oh yes when are you going back? who'd dd staying with?

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:11

To clarify: the college reunion was with people I went to college with.

But, indeed, my maternity leave ends this month. Dunno, really. On the one hand, I am looking forward to going back - I love my job. But on the other: I don't know how to leave DD. Really, I don't know how to leave her? How does it happen?

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:12

We're looking for a nanny!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:12

have you ever left her?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:14

that's a good option as she'll be in familiar territory, so possibly easier. although sometimes I think other children do distract them.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:14

I am VERY messy at my desk. Periodically I have to make a Herculean effort to cleanse its Augean top...

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:15

No - never! Only for an hour or so with DH while I had an appointment, or something.

That's why I can't imagine what it's like to leave her!

We're going to try to hire the nanny from August, so that when I go back to work regularly in September, she should be used to the nanny, and not unhappy at the sudden change.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:16

Agree about the other children, but DH is set on a nanny for the first year. I think that nanny is likely to take her to groups, etc, anyway.

Don't want her to be lonely - DD or the nanny!

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:19

Toddlers group are hell on earth, Poor nanny !

Sputnik · 09/05/2009 21:21

Ok, glass topped desks must be the prevailing zeitgeist atm, I am getting one for my new living room, with normal legs one end and this at the other.

It is very hard to leave them at first. Hope you can find a nanny you trust Penthe.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:22

so will she be with dh till then. don't understand [thicko emoticon].

I'd start getting her used to be with other people tbh. It could be drama for all party involved otherwise. How old will she be?
Like I said dd2 can cry for a solid hour and a half if she has not agreed on my having a life. It's heart breaking for a witch like me to turn around and go. If it's first time with PFB I wish YOU and dh by the sound of it, not her, luck!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 09/05/2009 21:24

huuuu sputnik that's a very good idea!! might steal.
want to know about apprentice? idiot be still an idiot but overshaded by the estate agent twat who was kicked out thankfully and rightly. some justice ion the world has been restored I felt.

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:26

You're not thick - I'm not being very clear about what's happening...

My ML ends, but because it's exam term, I don't have to go in very often to the office until September, when teaching starts up again.

I can work from home, in the evenings to make up the hours (preparing lectures, etc.) til then.

francagoestohollywood · 09/05/2009 21:27

Sputnik, I love love love that ikea thingy. Is it still sold? I was fearing it had been discontinued . I want it!!!

I was OK leaving mine with family, but the first time I left them at nursery I was in a state of panic for the whole time I was supposed to stay away, and felt like I was missing an arm...

Penthesileia · 09/05/2009 21:28

Thanks, Sputnik. It is a bit of a minefield...

Sputnik · 09/05/2009 21:28

Oh was that the Geordie guy?
Estate agents are a breed apart aren't they?

Yes DS (and DD back in the day too) cried for hours at first when I left them at nursery. Both started about 18 months. It was heart wrenching.
