Mine was War by Edwin Starr. This sounds quite cool, but wasn't - I stood terrified with my friend in the record shop. She told me to buy that and then we could get out, so I did. Circa 1975. Took me a number of years to appreciate the song.

First album was ABBA - The Album and first single I bought with my pocket money was Please tell me now by Duran Duran, I think it cost 75p from Woolies.

nannyogg · 15/03/2009 21:18

First album was a Hits! one I think, probably had Duran Duran and the like on it.

My first single was Drowning in Berlin by the Mobiles. I must go and look that up on itunes now.

The best/worst thing about these recordings is - we all saved our pocket money/Saturday earnings to buy them. We loved them and played them to bits, but I bet that none of us has those recordings now?

David Soul - Lets have a quiet night in together by the fireside.

Got it for my birthday and was absolutely thrilled to pieces!

Portofino · 15/03/2009 21:30

The first "record" I ever bought was Minueto Allegreto by the Wombles. I was most upset that my sister sat on it and broke it not long after. I can't remember how old i was (but I now have a strange compulsion to look for it on YouTube )

The first CD I bought (aged 20) was Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

nannyogg · 15/03/2009 21:32

I am going to have to search my collection for the first CD I bought. I think I've kept them all. When did CDs start replacing vinyl?

ra29needsabettername · 15/03/2009 21:32

Drusilla - Adam Ant was my first big crush. Even these days there's that bit in the Stand and Deliver video where he does a "look you up and down" thing, that makes me go all wibbly. Am I am old enough to know better!
