Mine was War by Edwin Starr. This sounds quite cool, but wasn't - I stood terrified with my friend in the record shop. She told me to buy that and then we could get out, so I did. Circa 1975. Took me a number of years to appreciate the song.

99 red balloons by Nena

TigersEnglandChick · 15/03/2009 21:43

Wake Me Up Before You Go - Wham.
On a vinyl single.
I was 7

Portofino · 15/03/2009 21:45

OOH Drusilla - I NEED to be 13 again!

ShyTalk · 15/03/2009 21:46

When I was a teen at horse riding school, all the other girls were buying Donny Osmond - Puppy Love and David Cassidy - Cherish. I thought they were yuk then, and time has not changed my mind . I preferred Donna (10CC) or Children of the Revolution (TRex). With the benefit of hindsight, none would make it to the CD rack of maturity

weepootle - seriously? A very sophisticated choice, congratulations.

Thanks ShyTalk .

My fisrt single was "Respectable" by Mel and Kim. Used to do teh dance in the playground.

Don't remember first album. Probably one of the now compliations.

Portofino · 15/03/2009 22:09

A special treat for mynaughtylittlesister And everyone else who remembers the 70's...

seeker · 15/03/2009 22:10

Even more dating than name threads. Heavy Horses - Jethro Tull.

ShyTalk · 15/03/2009 22:10

I think they're on Now 318 , a bit like Rocky films. I remember the Now albums (vinyl, OMG, old, old, old (knacker?!) except the ones I remember were Now 15 or similar. Wish I was young again and could get excited about a new album. Hmm, maybe not - DD is 14 and doesn't seem to be excited by albums - not in the same way I used to be, anyway,

Mine was Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel - from the film with the bunnies.

I think I bought all of David Soul's singles.

I also had the first Now album - on cassette.

ShyTalk · 15/03/2009 22:17

Portofino - I had forgotten that one (how could I?). It was never one of mine, but I must remind my Mum, who had a weird David Soul admiration at that time. She's so gonna love me for bringing back the memory

seeker · 15/03/2009 22:17

David Soul! My friend though one of his singles was called "Don't give up on a spaceship!"

ShyTalk · 15/03/2009 22:21

squeaver - have you had wine, or are you just honest?

I have been {sadly} watching Wham! videos on YouTune. I never realised that Andrew Ridgely never even such as "mimed" a word, let alone sung one! I am quite shocked. I always remembered him being an integral part. Even Pepsi and Shirley didn't get much of a look in - right from the beginning it is ALL George.

Pan · 15/03/2009 22:28

The Tams - Hey Girl Don't Bother Me. ( and they haven't really ever since....).

MegBusset · 15/03/2009 22:32

Mine was Stand And Deliver, too. I was three and won a record token in a dancing contest at my brother's school fete! I remember my dad taking me to the record shop and pointing to it above the counter, it was number one at the time.

ShyTalk · 15/03/2009 22:36

Portofino - also Pepsi & Shirley on the Paul Young stuff - not a look in for them.

My eternal shame is "the pushbike song"
by the Mixtures ( I think they were Aussie). I loved this, heaven only knows why. This is the absolute pits of music appreciation, unless you can go lower?

Yazz and the plastic population - the only way is up [cringe]

hester · 15/03/2009 22:46

First single was 'Babylon's Burning' by The Ruts.

First album was X-Ray Spex.

I was dead cool. (I'm also very old.)

Other sad records that i like are "let's live it up" - another aussie one , and
that Patsy Cline one, think it's called "Crazy" Yes, that's the name.

OP posts:
hester · 15/03/2009 22:55

Aagh, I'm never going to live it down, am I?!

As you can see, SMS, I started off cool and it has all been going downhill ever since
