Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:

. Are you trying to put me off?
I'm very looking forward to meeting you and seeing our friends both in London and in Exeter, but tbh the thought of the British weather makes me rather apprehensive. And the coffee of course.

What about indoorsy places?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 30/03/2009 21:55

franca, remember, e' la compagnia che conta!

I think you should write a book on the Italian consulate

Viggo

My mum's always fell asleep in front of the tv at around 9 o'clock (and then she's usually wide awake from 4 am) snoring vigorously. She's famous for telling my dad :"non svegliarmi mentre guardo la televisione"

francagoestohollywood · 30/03/2009 21:56

yes I know sunflower, but the bloody wind ....

francagoestohollywood · 30/03/2009 21:56

I forgot the

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 30/03/2009 22:03

the problem with indoor places is that we will have 8 children with us who would not want to sit and have a coffe but wonder around in different directions. the big museums are going to be busy so we wonlt be able to leave them roam on their own and so will not spend a minute together. while outdoor we can send them packing and enjoy our burnt coffe while blowing in the wind ala mary poppins

dh is hanging his shirts saying 'you don;t worry I do eveything and everything '

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 30/03/2009 22:04

lots of on this page.

francagoestohollywood · 30/03/2009 22:12

I'll bring my hat. And i'll order tea. It is a safer bet!

viggoandjavier · 31/03/2009 10:05

might bring a thermos of coffee, but might not be enough for everybody though. so you will all feel jealous of me...

lol at my thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/other_subjects/730945-if-i-jog-30-mins-a-day-how-much-weight?msgid=14914697

cannot believe people are calory counting and doing diets!!! surely i will lose some weight if i run!!!! i already feel the tummy is less out there.

Penthesileia · 31/03/2009 10:25

Long time no see everyone. Lots happening (sort of) here - we finally got some insurance, at INSANE cost (which perhaps ought to worry us... Does it mean our new house will fall down??? ) And we will complete on Friday - keys in hand, etc. Hooray! I am quite excited, although we are taking on a MASSIVE project that will probably take us our whole life to sort out (not mentioning the enormous cost too! ), but it'll be worth if for the space, I hope.

I'm reading Monk's biography of Wittgenstein at the moment - v good. And an exceptionally boring MA thesis, which I have to bring myself to mark. Not yet in the zone - can only think of sarcastic and ironic things to write in the report, so better wait until I'm feeling more professional!

LOL LOL LOL at the sleeping/snoring DH thing. My DH snores horribly, and if I'm not asleep before him, my night is ruined! I always swear I'm going to record him to prove to him how earth-shakingly bad it is, but in the middle of the night, when you're all tired, rummaging around for your mobile phone or video camera is the last thing you want to do!

Can't make the 6th as the ILs are coming from Italy, and we have to go and pick them up. Really want to meet you guys - another time, I hope.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 10:32

we, grand design obsessed, want to know a bit more of your mega project, it sounds soooo exciting. now I'm imagining a grand palace or mega barn with stables and annex... [pippi dreans on]!

Viggo I will read it in a minute... sounds ppromising.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 10:41

viggo !

I think you will lose weight. slowly though. I think at first you tone up, then your posture changes and being summer you'll have less chocolate and more fruit so a few kilos will go.
when I started swimming 20 minutes everyday from zero exercise, before dds, I toned up and lost lots of weight in 3 months. I think you, like me, need to tone up more than lose weight so keep it up. oh and come and run with us the race for life thingy asap!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 10:52

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 10:53

big time!!!

Penthesileia · 31/03/2009 10:54

Thanks, pippi!

Yes, I got this great feeling when I first saw it, that it was exactly the kind of place I would've wanted to grow up in.

It's a state inside, and needs complete modernisation, and loads of renovation, but it was our chance to find a place big enough for our stuff.

Anyway - as I've said before, it's probably a good thing it's a mess, so DD can paint on the walls, etc.

I should point out, btw, that we didn't pay the asking price... We are sadly not that well off!!! DH negotiated a great price... Using all his Italian skill!

Penthesileia · 31/03/2009 10:56

And the garden is lovely for running about in. I hope we have a nice summer now!

Don't be - if you saw the conditions we'll be living in for the forseeable future, you would think we were crazy!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 11:03

Oh I am not envious of the mess in which you'll live for a while, but who cares it's only temporary and I cannot imgine the end result!!! I bet it'll be fantastic! You have a fantastic place and you are right a wonderful place to grow up. You must have a few more kids though. It's not a place for a single child IMHO, at least three .
Even if you paid the asking price for it I'd be impressed. what you get in london for that is peanuts. Oh you must send us pics of the inside etc. Now I'll def come to C for a meet up , nothing to do with you anymore .
When I'll show dh he'll have this sad longing look on his face and will utter these words 'we should do somthing like this...' followed by a big sigh!!!

Now I feel I live in a cardboard box.

Penthesileia · 31/03/2009 11:08
  • yes, come to C and wonder at the 1950s bathroom (we're already trying to figure out how/where to plumb in a bidet! ).

London is crazy, though. When I walk to work I pass an estate agents, and always peer in, and the kinds of prices they're asking, even in the east end, are just ludicrous. I saw a sign for a studio appt (ie. 1 room!), for £350000, LEASEHOLD!!!!

TBH, though, even in C, we've had to move out of the town in order to find something affordable for us.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 31/03/2009 11:10

I cannot wait for viggo to see it. she'll faint. might text her now to stop reading her bloody chekov's three sisters and log on.

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 13:04

Farking nora Penthe, that is just utterly divine!!! .
Is it in a really bad state inside? Can you recover the old floors/woodwork etc. Please tell me you won't put carpet?
Do you need extending? I can email you a pic of our kitchen in the uk. It had been extended by the former owners, and it was fab. I miss it so much!

Viggo! I read your thread. A friend of mine got into running last spring and he used "the programme" a colleague of his (an experienced maratoneta) gave him. It lets you build up your stamina extremely gradually. He really got into his running and he's just come back from the maratona in Prague. (well I hope you don't get into running that much . Needless to say his wife -another extremely dear friend of mine - complains about his training absences a lot

Me, today I had a vigorous session of Pilates. Did a few errands afterwards and rewarded myself with a Big Mac.

francagoestohollywood · 31/03/2009 13:07

Damn, what I forgot to say is that I can email you the training programme if you wish, viggo
