Hello

MAS - well done on going for the mammogram. Just another worry to add to the list of future poking and proddings to look forward to I'm sure it'll all be fine. How long do the results take to come through?

A phone does sound a good idea I guess. They all seem to have them... Just make sure it's a cheapy, basic one - then you wont be worrying about T losing it, or it being stolen etc.

Am about the baby cuddles Hippi! How lovely

I've been in school this morning and have cakes to bake for cake sale tomorrow. Will probably just do some fairy cakes, they always seem to sell well.

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 13:46

mm, fairy cakes !! my mum has just brought over 2 nice rolls from an Italian Bakery - will give one to T when he gets back from choir...
We'd get him a very basic phone, bit like mine -then it won't matter too much if it's lost or whatever.
Think the results are sent to you in 3 weeks, unless they ring or write sooner to ask you back ...
men have it easy !
Am seldom moved by little babes - never really was a baby person - can take 'em or leave 'em - much prefer them at 5 or 6 and upwards ! Mind you, was different with T but he was the easiest boy ever.

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 31/03/2009 16:14

aaaw, baby N was just the sweetest little dot. Absolutely gorgeous!
Mas, you are not 50 are you?? You can't be!

Mmm, cakesale - fairycakes are always a huge seller at our school especially when they have lashings of icing and pretty decorations on

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 18:36

afraid I am !

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 31/03/2009 20:05

Why the ? You look absolutely fabulously gorgeous for 50! Wow, am impressed!
And well done for going to the mammogram. I have to say that is one thing I am absolutely dreading, even worse than a smear.
(results came through on Friday, all fine )

Hotcrossbunny · 31/03/2009 20:41

I was when I read 50! You are very glam

I am feeling like a horrible mummy. B has gone to bed without a kiss and cuddle - her choice because I was cross with her... I think we are both very tired and on a short fuse. Yesterday and today she has come out of school and just niggled and niggled, and I ended up very cross tonight after having slaved over her Easter bonnet with her, made fairy cakes, helped in her classroom, taken her for tea and cake etc etc and she still isn't satisfied! Grrrr. Blooming ungrateful whatsit

Easter fair and assembly tomorrow, and then hopefully we can relax a bit....

Sorry for moaning!

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 31/03/2009 20:56

I am in the same boat with E hotcross. She is definately suffering from 'end of term-itis' and has large black circles under her eyes to prove it
She is also very grumpy.
And I am now half way through the 6th week of dh being away (crumbs, has it really been that long already?) and am fed up with it now. Add to that the fact I seem to be permanently hungry and the end result is a snappy shouty mummy

Don't fret - go up and kiss B when she is asleep, it will make you feel better. And if she is anything like O and E, she will stay asleep but smile, they do know you are there even if they appear fast asleep
It will make you feel better, and she will have forgotten all about tonight by tomorrow morning

Hotcrossbunny · 31/03/2009 22:20

Oh my, I didn't realise your dh was away still Is it for much longer? I hate it when dh is away, fortunately it's a rare event nowadays. Poor you

Thank you for commiserating. I will go and give her a night night kiss, I've calmed down a bit now!

Roll on the holidays Night night

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 22:51

oh poor hotcross - good idea of hippi's - I expect you've done that ! I always do that,go into T's room and kiss him goodnight if we've parted at bedtime in a bad mood. The poor boy is suffering from a very sore throat - though he was a bit out of sorts yesterday evening. He seems ok, but says it hurts when he swallows - hope he is ok for the rest of the week- it's the concert on Thursday and he needs to be able to sing ! Will see how he is tomorrow anyway.
Thanks too for your kind words regarding my great age - I do sometimes forget how old I am as most of my friends are much younger - it then shocks me when I remember because it must seem old to you whippersnappers - I don't feel old mind you.. hope you guys don't mind the age gap anyway - I always think people will feel uncomfortable about it. Dh is 7 years younger than me, which helps

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 22:52

and too for hippi being dh-less for so long - hadn't realised really either xxx

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 01/04/2009 08:12

Hello you two? How is T's throat? There are some nasty bugs flying around, hope he will be okay for Thursday [fingers crossed]

How is B this morning hotcross?

We soooo don't want to do school this morning. E hd a bad dream and ended up in my bed - where O already was because he is missing dh. And the bed is simply not big enough for 3!!
E is now sitting at the table with her breakfast and writing a story (entitled 'The Octopus Family') and would happily stay there all morning
O is grumpy and tired because E disturbed him in the night, and I am more tired and more grumpy because they both disturbed me in the night...

Of course I don't mind your -what you call great- age, firstly it is not old at all, secondly I love having friends of different ages, it makes life more interesting

After this week dh will be in Leeds for one more week. And then that should be it!

Right, better go, pandemonium is breaking out in the bathroom [sigh]

MargaretMountford · 01/04/2009 10:42

poor T - his throat is still sore, bit better than last night, but I have told him to stay home - he was very anxious about missing school though, bless him ! He is so seldom poorly and has had 100% attendance so far since September - and he is missing a geography presentation which he was quite looking forward to...but tomorrow will be a long day as the concert does usually go on until quite late, so I thought it best to have him home. It means that I have to send him to grandparents when I go to collect P's children to mind and then I shall have to do my Sainsbury's shop..left him in his bed when I dropped the children off this morning.
Poor you hippi, sharing your bed with little ones and for O missing his dad... still, wont be for long now.
Am glad you don't mind ancient friends ! I have a couple of pals older than me come to think of it

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 01/04/2009 11:19

Best thing to have him home mas, but poor T fretting about it.
Hopefully he will feel better soon!

Hotcrossbunny · 01/04/2009 11:48

Oh poor T. What bad timing Definitely agree keeping him home was the right thing to do. There's every chance his throat will feel much better for it.

I don't envy the sharing the bed thing. IME, no-one sleeps particularly well, or at least we don't. B often thinks she'd like to snuggle in with us, but the novelty soon wears off and she disappears off to her own bed. Bless O

MAS - I have quite a few friends who are older than me. I don't even notice who's younger/older at all, it all depends how you behave. My dsis seems much older than me (only 3 years) and her dh who is actually the same age as me treats me like a little sister too Drives me mad! I agree with Hippi, friends of differing ages enrich your life

I've been pricing cakes this morning for the cake sale. It's going to be a huge rush after school, as we have the bonnet parade, then Easter fair, and B is due for a swimming lesson at 4 We'll be racing off for that, so at least I wont have to clear up after the fair!

We had our Easter assembly this morning. Aren't little recorder groups hilarious? Ours played Hot Cross Buns - very seriously!

Hotcrossbunny · 02/04/2009 10:47

Quick hello!

Am trying to think of a present for dh's birthday. Any ideas? Am completely uninspired.

The Easter Fair was lovely. We were so lucky with the weather, so held it in the playground. Only problem was B really missed out as I was on the cake stall and she wasn't confident enough to go round on her own. I managed to grab a couple of mums to take her to win an easter egg and do the hoopla, but next time I must organise someone to look after her I think. We made nearly £500, which is up on last year apparently

What are your plans for Easter?

Hotcrossbunny · 02/04/2009 11:16

Aaaargh! Just got off the phone to my mum and in passing, mentioned how much our fair made. Big mistake. Apparently my old primary school used to make about £800, so yet again I'm not good enough. Was hoping for a 'well done' but it never seems to be forthcoming. Mustn't care....

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 02/04/2009 11:28

Oh hotcross, your mum sounds like my MIL - everything we do is nothing. She even said to O that in her day it was much harder at school because they did not have books (massive on that one, she is only 63) and he had it easy and therefore she did better than him because they had no books and poor her. All he wanted was a quick Well Done for doing so well in a maths test!
Arrrgh, must not care either!

No suggestions for dh's birthday, am notoriously bad at present buying.

I know where you are coming from re B and the fair. It was one of the reasons I have stopped helping at PTA events. The last summer fair E had to spend the entire two hours sitting on the chest freezer whilst I sold ice creams - no bugger bothered to come and relief me and no one was able/willing to take E (plus she did not want to go with anyone she wanted to go round with me)
I felt sooo guilty

Have just come back from Sainsbury's and need to go and give blood at 12.15. Reeeeeaaaalllly don't want to, am becoming more scared of the needle as time goes on...

Have the girls round for takeaway tonight - any suggestions on a healthy option? (from an indian takeaway, no chance probably)

MAS, how is T? Is he well enough for the concert?

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 02/04/2009 11:29

btw - £500 is brilliant!!!

Hotcrossbunny · 02/04/2009 12:54

Glad it's not just my mother!

Well done for the giving blood - it must be over by now, so hope you're on your way home for a nice cuppa I think tandoori dishes are relatively lowfat, and nice with plain rice. Veggie side dishes are probably OK too, maybe aloo gobi??? Yum yum! Sounds lovely - I must be more sociable and invite people round, it's very easy to get into the habit of just switching on the TV in the evening.

Am getting there with present hunting. Am thinking a wind up/solar powered radio for camping, and a mini tripod for his new camera. Hope that's OK? Will order later this afternoon.

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 02/04/2009 13:32

Presents for dh sound great!
Yes, I am back, it was quick and painless this time. Struggeling a bit with the big plaster on my arm - the sticky bit is right where my elbow creases and every time I move it stretches...(woe is me...)

So, vegetable dishes I can do. Dh suggested getting a biryani as that is mainly rice based and not in a gloopy sauce, but then I read somewhere that it is one of the most fattening dishes

Right, off to unload washing machine and grab some lunch

MargaretMountford · 02/04/2009 13:40

well I think £500 is great - it must be some kind of weird jealousy thing, this silly competitive thing...thankfully my mum isn't at all like that, nor is MIL though I was vaguely annoyed the other week when describing T's blood test trauma and she told me how her brother's grandson who is diabetic has to put needles in himself every day (yes of course that is hard for him but T's fear was no less upsetting for him - grr -actually I think she was just making an observation but I probably took it wrongly !)
Hope your needle anxiety was ok at blood letting hippi - you are a star to do it !
I usually buy clothes/books/cds for dh for presents - and chocs too,or nice wine and beers - he is easy to get things for though. Wind up radio sounds fab !
As for low fat indian takeaway - agree with hotcross about tandoori - I guess avoid things done with sauces/cream and unfortunately the naan and poppadums which are imo the best bits - have a lovely evening though
T is a bit better today - still not right but went into school and I hope will be ok for concert.

MargaretMountford · 02/04/2009 13:41

ah, you posted as I was typing...

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 02/04/2009 15:58

Glad to hear T is a bit better mas, and enjoy the concert!!

MargaretMountford · 02/04/2009 16:43

he was very late home from school - I thought maybe he was rehearsing but he'd gone to his junior school to look at their Easter egg displays...must get him a mobile !!
He is quite croaky but seems happy to be in the concert.
Have a nice take away

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 02/04/2009 18:10

Urgh, I am sooooo hungry....
How can I wait until the girls get here at 8.00pm?????

Glad to hear T is okay - enjoy the concert
