I have the fabric illustrated in the big picture as an oilcloth on my dining table

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 26/03/2009 15:55

Wow, I love that shop!! I think a trip to Alton may be what is needed

Love the oil-cloth fabric too, very nice!

E has perked up a bit and is currently playing with her playmobil in her room

Have now done 4 coats of paint on 2 of my dining room walls. they look good! Will do the other 2 walls at the weekend when dh has moved the computer desk out.

MargaretMountford · 26/03/2009 16:14

it's one of my favourite shops I must say...do come over - I'll take you to lunch at the Italian Cafe !! (hotcross invited too ) Glad seems a bit better

MargaretMountford · 26/03/2009 16:14

glad E seems better I meant - hope O is too

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 26/03/2009 16:21

Oooh yes MAS, that sounds like a fab idea!

MargaretMountford · 29/03/2009 09:04

hello ! hope you're having good weekends...
T has detention tomorrow (5 mins during break) for forgetting his science homework - silly boy - that'll teach him,I hope...grr,though..I never got detention !! He has also lost his music and lyrics for the song he is doing for singing lesson.. (it's Suo Gan which is beautiful) - so he'll have to practice from memory - hope that doesn't earn him a frowning face on his record book.

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 29/03/2009 16:32

Hello

Oh no, T!! Luckily it is only for 5 minutes, and if he learns from the mistake then all will be well

We have had a very busy weekend. Yesterday dh and O went to help the headmaster, the deputy head, the caretaker, O's current teacher and O's Y3 teacher dig out the school's environmental garden. Besides dh there were two other parents there, so not a lot of help for the teacher! Dh said they had a fab time though, the caretaker's wife provided bacon sandwiches and the caretaker had set up a gazebo with tea, coffee, juice and biscuits. Apparently they had fun!
Then O was collected to go to the theatre with his friend, and E, dh and I visited my niece who was 16!! We then finished painting the dining room. Looks fab!
We then rewarded ourselves with dinner on lap trays whilst watching Robin Hood (we could not get near the dining table even if we had tried!)
Today we went to B&Q to buy radiators, light fittings and various other bits and bobs.
Whilst O was at drama club dh and I started putting the dining room back together.
Not quite finished yet! There is lots left to do (replace radiator, move phone socket, change light fitting) but it will have to wait until next weekend now.
What is really cool is that dh has wall-mounted the computer monitor and I now have some more space on the (small) desk. We also bought a groovy retro-style standard lamp at B&Q so I can actually see the keyboard now

Right, better get on with tidying up, otherwise dh will accuse me of not pulling my weight!

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 08:12

Oh bugger, bugger bugger - I weighed myself this morning thinking I must have lost weight as I had been soooo careful over the last week.
I have put on a pound!! [sob]
How the heck did that happen????

Sob sob

I have to see the nurse next Monday to be weighed and am now a pound further away from the target she set me.
Buggery bugger!

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 09:20

it could just be water retention, wouldn't you think ? don't be disheartened though...you're doing so brilliantly !
Well done too on all the wonderful decorating - and it sounds as though dh and O had a great time on their environmental garden clearance day

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 10:38

I am pinning my hopes on water retention but in truth I think I ate too much at the weekend. [angry at self emoticon]
The nurse had set me a target of a 4lbs loss when she sees me on the 6th of April. I now have only a week to go and need to lose 5lbs. Not going to happen I fear

O and dh had a great time. In fact the whole weekend has been fun, if hectic.

Am having a very sociable week this week (that won't help with the weight loss) as I am seeing a friend and her newborn boy tomorrow (and I am providing the cream cakes!), I have the girls coming over for a curry night on Thursday and then on Friday I am having elevenses with L and S. So how on earth am I going to lose weight this week????
Argh!

Feel a bit bleurgh about it all...

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 10:42

There's always the week after though...tell the nurse that you have had a sociable week and given your efforts before she will see that you have really done well so far - don't beat yourself up !

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 10:46

But she (nurse) will still be expecting to see some sort of loss, won't she?

Anyway, will stop fretting and go swimming

Did you have a nice weekend?

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 10:55

am sure she wold understand, unless she is a complete harridan ! weekend was nice thank you - usual pottering about - nothing very exciting..

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 11:05

oooh, she is lovely, but when I told her last week that I'd had a pastry at a coffee morning she pulled a prissy tight-lipped 'face of disapproval'.
So....

Glad to hear weekend was nice.

Am enjoying the weather today - took dillydog for a walk through the village, it was lovely

Right, am going swimming, back later.

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 11:16

hmm, well life will be pretty miserable if a person can't indulge from time to time (she may have food/weight issues herself)

Hotcrossbunny · 30/03/2009 11:30

Morning

Don't panic Hippi! You may find that it still does all drop off you before your weigh in. I sometimes thought I'd put on weight and then discovered that eating a bit more than usual had actually made me lose weight. I think when you're on a diet you occasionally need to have a bit more to kick start your system again and then next pounds loss gets easier.... Certainly at Weight Watchers I was told that I wasn't eating enough at times, and sure enough I'd subsequently lose weight...

Anyway, she has no right to disapprove. You have done extremely well so far, and the odd week off isn't a major problem IMO

I've just got rid of my MIL, so can breathe for a bit. I'm off to Pilates later, but wanted to check in.

Bless T having detention! Sounds a bit OTT but if it works and he's more organised next time...

B has gone into school wearing bright pink nail varnish today She went to a High School Musical party yesterday and came home completely made up, hair done etc. I feel it's all a bit much too soon, but hey ho, if all the girls have it, then I guess she needs to be the same????

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 13:16

oooh, you are both making me feel sooo much better
Have just come back from swimming, did 50 lenghts (so that is 1.25km )and feel fine. So if nothing else I think I am getting fitter!

My problem is that during the week I dramatically cut back on what I eat, but then at teh weekend I think I over-indulge. Perhaps a more consistent approach is needed...

Bless B and her nailvarnish. One of E's close friends H (her mum is my mad policewoman friend T) is High School Musical mad. E herself can't quite see the attraction. But whenever E and H get together the nailvarnish comes out!! T and I have set a rule that it is toes only on a school day.
But in the Easter holiday E is going on a sleepover to H's house, and I am sure it will be a nailvarnish fest!!

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 13:20

glad you seem to have survived MIL hotcross - and at B's nail varnish - will they mind at school ?
Good swimming hippi !

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 13:25

I did not know MIL was staying again hotcross, well done on surviving!
Enjoy pilates

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 16:37

was thinking that maybe T ought to have a mobile -a very simple and cheap one, to take to school so he can ring me if staying late..he was late home this afternoon and I thought he might've had to stay for a concert practice or more detention (he did go to his detention but the teacher wasn't there,in his classroom -which is where T reckoned it would be- hope he isn;t going to get into trouble for not being there - he did try !)
It turns out that he was chatting to this boy C who he seems to be friendly with, which is great...but obviously I'd like to know when he was coming back. Singing group is sometim,es cancelled and T comes home unexpectedly -I've always been in fortunately, but it'd surely be easier if he has the means to call me..
He forgot to say he'd lost his singing sheet too - grr

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 30/03/2009 17:18

Oh MAS, T is becoming a proper, forgetful, chatty, 'mum won't mind if I'm late' teenager
A mobile phone would be a good idea.
We are planning on getting O one (a very simple one, on a pay-as-you-go plan) once he starts at secondary school.

MargaretMountford · 30/03/2009 18:41

!

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 12:52

yes, think we will get a phone soon...
just been to have a mammogram - routine one but the first I've ever had - was very anxious as I hate anything like this - smears anything personal esp where you have to undress and then have someone arranging your parts - acutely embarrassing...it was ok,the nurse could have been more friendly/cheery and it was a bit uncomfortable - they do press quite hard ! But done - now have to wait for results.
A friend of mine had breast cancer diagnosed from a routine mammogram which is what alarms me, but obviously that's the whole point isn't it ?

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 31/03/2009 13:06

Oh no mas - routine mammogram... I guess that pleasure awaits me at some point. I thought smears were bad enough [fret]
At what age do they start routine mammograms?

Good idea about the phone for T. Did he get into trouble for not finding the teacher at detention?

have just come back from seeing an old work friend of mine. She has a lovely 3 year old girl and a scrumptious 4 week old boy. Had lots of lovely cuddles with the baby. He repaid me by regurgitating milk over my shoulder! Was still cute though

Right, best be off and walk the dog!

MargaretMountford · 31/03/2009 13:11

don't know whether he got into trouble yet - I told him to say that he did spend time looking for the teacher !
I think you are routinely screened from 50, unless anyone in your family has a history of b cancer.
