Am still in my winterboots - took E swimming (warm at the poolside) and then on to a climbing frame party from a little boy in her class (again, warm in there)

Roll on April, perhaps I won't feel such a fool in my summery maryjanes when it is no longer March

OMG! Well done Hippi. That's amazing!!! How are you doing it???

MargaretMountford · 23/03/2009 09:56

wow ! the amazing shrinking hippi !! well done you

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 23/03/2009 16:01

It is amazing what the fear of being weighed by the nurse does for your motivation!!
I have re-vamped my daily diet and cut out all chocolate and unhealthy snacks. And I have added an extra 30minute dog walk into my day.
And I try to drink at least 1L of water a day.
All of those put together have meant that in the past 2 weeks the weight has dropped off.
Not sure it is sustainable in the long run, but for now it has given me a huge boost!!

Have just been approached by the infant school offering me a permanent lunchtime supervisor job for the summer term. Have turned them down as I have promised to do invigilating at the secondary school. Did I do the right thing??

MargaretMountford · 23/03/2009 16:04

invigilating is what you really like, so you did the right thing hippi, imo ...am so impressed by brilliant weightloss - well done !! (says the woman who has just eaten an almond macaroon)

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 23/03/2009 16:09

mmmmm, macaroon..... yum yum....

Argh, it is raining heavily here, and O should be walking home from his rugby after school club. I told him he can walk home on his own today. Now I am worried - rain means poor visibility for car drivers so worried about O walking along on his own.... [fret]

Invigilating is what I really enjoy doing, plus it is at teh secondary school I want a permanent job at some point, so I feel I ought to be loyal to them.
Whereas at the infant school they are making all existing lunchtime supervisors redundant at the end of the year because they are implementing a new system which means the TA's will be covering lunchtime. So there are no prospects there. Also, they are reducing their TA number from 11 to just 5. So no chance of getting a job at the infant school.

Oh, come on O, get home please...

MargaretMountford · 23/03/2009 16:23

you've done the right thing - don't fret, and don't fret about O - he's a sensible boy !

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 23/03/2009 16:34

O arrived home, dripping wet, at exactly 16.09! Not bad considering Club does not finish until 16.00 and he had to get his bags from the classroom. (mind you they probably finished rugby a bit earlier due to the rain)

He has had a nice hot shower adn is now pestering for a hot chocolate. It is still raining and tonight he has cubs and they are doing an outdoors pathfinding exercise 'no matter what the weather throws at us'. So he will be getting wet again!!

Better go and get a hot chocolate prepared, adn then will start on dinner. No rainbows today, yippee, as E gave it up

MargaretMountford · 23/03/2009 18:46

glad he's back safely, if damp ! and that you don't have to go to Rainbows !!

Hotcrossbunny · 23/03/2009 21:39

It's so nice to be offered a job, even if you don't accept it. Well done Hippi Fingers crossed something comes up at the Secondary school. Glad O made it home OK - wasn't the rain incredible? It seemed to come from nowhere...

I'm feeling proud of myself. I made it to Pilates and stayed the whole lesson! I'm not convince I actually enjoyed it, but hopefully as I get the hang of the breathing etc I'll relax into it. The teacher seems nice, and its a small class, so lots of one-to-one help. I am really going to ache tomorrow - I am so unsupple

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 08:05

Oooo, well done on Pilates. What is pilates exactly? Is it like Yoga or am I barking up the wrong tree???

Feel very sluggish today - had a bad headache last night so took 2 syndol before bed. And now I feel sooooo bleurgh....

Hope you both have a nice day today. I am hopefully going to get the chance to do some housework and paperwork...

MargaretMountford · 24/03/2009 09:41

well done hotcross - am sure it'll help ! and poor hippi- hope you feel perkier soon. Am doing the washing and then my friend M has insisted that I meet him for coffee -despite my saying I should do some work...have finished a batch of hearts and have put together the beginnings of some necklaces, but I really should be drawing !

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 10:29

MAS - do you sell any of your things online? Because the hearts are lovely and I am a sucker for necklaces....

Am feelign a bit better, but just feel 'jet-lagged' for want of a better description. Am just havign some toast and a boiled egg and then will take dilldog for his walk, that should wake me up!!

Enjoy your outing with M!

Hotcrossbunny · 24/03/2009 10:32

Hope you're picking up now Hippi. At least the sun's out again today

Are you going somewhere nice for coffee MAS? Will there be cakes??

Well I do ache a bit today, but not nearly as badly as I expected. Pilates is a bit like Yoga, but less spiritual I think. It's all about building up core strength, teaching your body to use its centre, rather than stressing less robust areas. My physio recommended it as it will hopefully protect my neck/shoulders and lower spine when I'm lifting etc. I'm doing Stott Pilates, which is floor based, and it basically seems to be a series of stretches accompanied by complicated breathing! I've signed up for the term, and I'm hoping by the end I might actually be enjoying it I'm not a huge fan of exercise...

MIL is arriving again tomorrow, so must go and make her bed up. Oh and doggle needs a walk.

Hotcrossbunny · 24/03/2009 10:36

X-posts. hi Hippi!

We still haven't arranged a meet up! I wonder if we should arrange something for after the holidays? I can do 21st-24th April if they're any good?

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 10:39

Pilates sounds great!! If you lived nearer I would ask to join you!

Am so glad the sun is out - yesterday was miserable!
Luckily the rain held off for O's nighttime path-finding walk around the lake with Cubs, the highlight of which was finding a pair of frogs mating!!

I had to think of you two earlier - I usually meet two old friends (L and S) for lunch once a month and we are due to meet next week. One of them has just phoned to say she has a early afternoon appointment so has asked to meet at a cafe for coffee and cake instead of lunch. She said it would be lovely to have 'elevenses' together!

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 10:40

Yes, the 21st or 22nd would be fab!

MargaretMountford · 24/03/2009 11:02

I'd love to meet but that week might be tricky - would the week after be possible ? 27th ??
I think I might manage a croissant at coffee with M - we'll go to the Italian cafe, where the cakes are very delicious, but I think a croissant would be sufficient for me
I am thinking of selling online but have to work out costs for p&p and the paypal bit, which I find a bit confusing ! I would put them on the Folksy site, which is has lovely stuff. The necklaces are really kitschy retro trype things - plastic cats and hearts and ballerinas on pink chain - I love that kind of thing..probably suitable for young folk really, but who cares ...the costing bit is always tricky - the individual bits are not cheap, despite being plastic - chain is £1.25 a metre so to make they cost about £2 or a bit more and I guess that doesn't leave much profit - am hopeless really - I just love the making bit and finding the beads/bits and bobs...the hearts are quite profitable if I sell them in any decent quantity ... if you need any for presents then I can do you a deal !! !

MargaretMountford · 24/03/2009 11:03

trype ?

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 11:48

MAS - the necklaces sound fab, and I may wish to purchase some (at some point somehow) for both O and E to give to their friends at birthdays etc.

The week after 27th onwards is fine for me also. Invigilating starts again on the 8th May so from then onwards I shall be busy

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 11:49

MAS, put some pictures up of the hearts and necklaces, and I'm sure we can work something out Don't do me too much of a deal though, you have to make a profit!

Hotcrossbunny · 24/03/2009 12:28

I can do the week beginning 27th too. I have Pilates on a Monday morning, which I can't shift around, but other days are flexible. Pick a day!

Oh yes please, I'd be interested in necklaces etc too!

Hippi, I'm about your friends wanting elevenses too. Most of the people I know are so anti cakes - perpetual dieters - which is no fun at all... My cake eating friend has moved to the west country and I'm missing her

hippipotamiHasLost14Pounds · 24/03/2009 13:32

Oh no hotcross - a girl has to have some cake-eating friends!!
My friend K had arranged a lovely coffee mornign at her house yesterday and she had done a bruch consisting of coffee, fresh juice, pastries and fruit. It was fab!
No cake though, but there was chocolate on some of the pastries

Doing 'elevenses' with L and S is a one-off, we normally meet for lunch once a month - and S will usually have salad whilst L and I tuck into toasties, baguettes or jacket potatoes! So it will be interesting to see which one of them actually has cake as opposed to just coffee!

MargaretMountford · 24/03/2009 15:31

will put pics of necklaces up soon, hen finished, and some new hearts ones shortly ! don't feel obliged to order any though !!!!! 28th April ?
Had a nice croissant with friend M and coffee (had to scrape the choc powder off the top though) and some divine pear juice.
I absolutely adore coffee with danish pastries, croissants or maple pecan things - that's my idea of heaven
Btw, bellavita from my yr 7 thread (get me, my year 7 thread !) who is also on facebook and is a very lovely mumsnetter has posted a recipe for Portuguese custard tarts which are my absolute favourites - will link, am thinking of making them at the w/end possibly. I had a friend who lived opposite me in London who worked for a Portuguese bank and used to buy me them from the Portuguese cafe nearby - yum
