oops, sorry , had no idea that posted three times.....

Argh.

Hotcrossbunny · 16/07/2009 12:38

Hello! Hope you're both OK?

Well done O and E - sounds like it's all going really well I'd quite like term to be over too, the last few days are a bit of a drag, but school seem to be keeping on to the bitter end. B said they had 'really hard maths' to do yesterday

Am so pleased that radio is finished, MAS. Hope there aren't any real aftereffects for you How are the curries going? Will T cook them for you, do you think?

I'm running around madly trying to sort out B's birthday. Her party is on Saturday at a local village hall, with 12 girls coming. I'm praying madly for decent weather, so we're not trapped in a hall with lots of girlie squealing Quick MN vote - can I bear to buy a birthday cake for the party and then make one for her actual birthday? Usually I slave over a hot oven, so it feels like a bit of a cop out, but I think my energy is probably best saved for the party games...

Other question for Hippi, probably. We haven't got B's present yet, struggling to think of something. Do you think E would have liked a keyboard?? I think B would, she had a much-loved one a couple of years ago which got broken and was very very sad, but she hasn't mentioned it recently.. Don't want to buy her plastic tat, as she's getting lots of that from other family members!!! Any other ideas????

hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 16/07/2009 13:19

Hi hotcross

Ahhh, the end of term is in sight. O finishes tomorrow, E on Wednesday. (but next week is 'fun' with a picnic etc.)

Don't bake a cake for the party - they won't appreciate it at a party, they'll just want to eat it! Buy one and bake a nice one for the actual birthday!!
And E would love love love a keyboard, so am sure b will too!!

MAS how are you feeling ow all is over and done? I hope you are well.

I am supposed to be going out tonight to a drinks and nibbles evening at the exams/admissions officer's house. (she is the lady in charge of us invigilators). I really don't fancy it Am very tired. Dh is working away so my friend K is coming to babysit but it is also the junior school disco and it all just seems sooo much hassle....
Please tell me I will enjoy it once I am there???

Hotcrossbunny · 16/07/2009 13:49

You will enjoy it once you're there! I'm feeling the same and have Book Group tonight - I know I'll have a lovely time, but it just seems to require so much effort...

Have instructed dh to buy a Disney Fairies cake on his way home from work tonight. Phew - one less thing to think about.

Lucky O finishing tomorrow Wish B did, she's very tired and grumpy. We're supposed to be having the school picnic after school tomorrow, but the forecast is looking dodgy but less work for me if it's cancelled and I can go home and crack on with party bags etc etc.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2009 13:59

keyboard sounds a great idea - T absolutely loves his !
And yes, buy a party c ake and save a lovingly made one for your family celebration (what day is B's birthday ?)
Am sure you'll both feel fine once you get to your evenings out !
T is doing beef madras today...he has loved it all and I asked him if he'll be fed up with curry by the weekend and he said no ! - so maybe he will have a go at making one for us
I felt very empty and odd yesterday as there was no radio and I handed in my work - it was as if I had no purpose ! Feel better today..have been bitten by insects on my legs though and chest is feeling prickly and sunburny.
Off to pick up P's dcs and drop them at hers as her dh is home but unable to get out as he has snapped his achilles tendon..yikes.

OP posts:
Hotcrossbunny · 16/07/2009 14:05

Well done for finishing your work too! You have done well to keep on top of it, with everything else going on - I'd have a rest before tackling anything else

Ouch about the Achilles Tendon - poor chap. Dh's is nearly fully recovered, but it's taken nearly 9 months

Glad you both agree about the cake and the keyboard - feel happier about them both now.

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2009 14:16

thanks hotcross ! I'd forgotten that your dh had the same thing as P's dh..how soon could he drive ? L had his op last Thurs and holidays are approaching - not sure if they'd be able to go now ,or if they do P will have to drive.

OP posts:
Hotcrossbunny · 16/07/2009 15:00

Dh did his in September I think. We hired an automatic car over Christmas so he could drive us up to my parents - fortunately it's his left foot so only clutch using affected. Think he did first drive in March/April? He had to wait for consultant to give the nod - think he'd done a particularly good job of rupturing the tendon - it was in shreds apparently...

All-in-all they reckon it's a minimum of 6 month injury.....

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2009 16:19

they are going away still, but P will have to drive down through France - I wonder if their car is automatic ?

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2009 16:20

the thought of rupturing, snapping and shreds makes me feel very squeamish !

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 16/07/2009 16:35

Ouch, I feel queasy too now... shudder at tearing and shredding...

Aw MAS, don't feel empty, just relax and enjoy some 'me' time - you deserve it!!
I have little S here this afternoon - there was much begging and eyelash fluttering going on so I relented. She will be here until I go out tonight as K would have had to bring her to babysit E whilst her dh collected big S and O from the school disco.
A very very chaotic evening...

Argh, and the guy across the road wants me to ask friend's dh to collect his dd and drop her home.... Argh.... Feel a bit put upon on friend's dh's behalf - better ring her and check it is okay...

Hotcrossbunny · 16/07/2009 18:44

Should have done a TMI!

Sorry you're having a chaotic time Hippi. We were talking at school about people expecting us to look after their children....seems a popular thing to do Also very dubious to use you as the go-between - not fair at all IMO.

Just back from swimming. Can't believe how quickly B is progressing She managed a few lengths without float/woggle at all, am very very impressed!

We have a note home from school saying there is a case of Swine Flu in school. A chap in dh's office has it too. Feel it's closing in....Just stocked up on Calpol etc.

hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 17/07/2009 11:56

Well done B for swimming!! Brilliant

Don't worry too much about the swine flu - two weeks ago we found out a boy in O's class had it. Said boy was a pal of O's so O would have been in close-ish contact with him. The boy had a week off school, and has now been back at school for over a week. O has not developed SF nor has anyone else in the class. So I don't think it is that easy to catch.

The drinks-and-nibbles evening for the invigilators was great fun I am glad I went. They have asked us invigilators if we would be willing to set up a team of Cover Supervisors - i.e. we would get called in to take charge of a class and ensure they do the work set for them when a teacher is away. They would train us and allow us to shadow some permanent Cover Supervisors. Have said I would thin about it - the thought of being in charge of a class of 30 teens fills me with fear [fret]

Have just come back from swimming. Neighbour has trimmed the hedge dividing our front gardens so I have to go out there in a minute and rake up the trimmings. Bleurgh, did not fancy that!!

HOpe you are both okay

Hotcrossbunny · 17/07/2009 13:07

I'm really glad you had a good evening And how exciting being asked to be supply cover supervisors! I'd be terrified too, but it's really nice to be asked, and they obviously think you're up to the job. At least you'd be quite a lot taller than most of them, so would have an air of authority just from that...

I had a lovely time at book group too. They are a really nice group, and have made me feel very welcome.

Am in a panic about B's party tomorrow But have bought all the bits this morning, and have 24 fairy cakes and cheese straws cooling down in the kitchen, which has eased the panic a bit. We have the keyboard and it looks FAB I really hope she loves it...

The bomb attacks in Bali have put Swine Flu into perspective a bit. You don't know what's around the corner and it's pointless worrying about it. Have extra supplies of paracetamol in tho

Sorry you have a hedge to sweep up, did your neighbour do both sides???? If so, that's very civilised. We have an enormously long hedge and it's the bane of Dh's life - currently uncut as we have a couple of occupied birds nests in there!

Hope you're OK MAS?

hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 17/07/2009 14:07

Oh hotcross, am sure the party will be lovely Do you have games / activities planned?

Neighbour did do both sides, he always does It is the hedge which runs inbetween both our gardens. I went out to sweep up and he came out to help, so it did not take long

Small dilemma - I have to take O to his swimming lesson this afternoon and last week I promised him that after his lesson he could swim with a girl from his class. He has been wanting to do this for months and I have never been able to let him. So I said today he could. That means we won't be home much before 6.
E's school disco is from 5.30 - 7. I really don't want to go - parents have to stay so it involves standing around in a loud, crowded school hall. My worst nightmare. If E does not ask about the disco then great, problem solved. But if she does, who do I disappoint, O or E??

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/07/2009 14:21

I'd do the swimming hippi, as O has wanted to do that for a long time -and why put yourself through the hell of a school disco if you can avoid it ! Perhaps do something with E another time to make up for it ? she might not ask anyway ! I was always grateful to T for not wanting to go to them
The cover supervisor thing sounds great - you'd be fab hippi - they wouldn't ask if they doubted your abilities !
Cheese straws - yummy ! the party will be fine Hotcross - hope B has a wonderful time - am sure she'll adore the keyboard -great present !
As for swine flu - I do think it's over hyped and really you needn't fret. I am half expecting my surgery to ask me in for a swine flu jab as I get the regular one (all asplenic patients are offered it) - but frankly I never worry about these things.

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 17/07/2009 15:51

Hi MAS

E has not mentioned the disco, so we will stay at swimming a bit longer to give O a chance to swim with A. Will just have to bring plenty of things to keep E occupied for the duration...

O finished school today. All the teachers give their class sweets or a small toy at the end of the year but O's fab fab fab teacher gave them all a book - O has a beautiful copy of Treasure Island and the teacher has written the date adn signed the inside cover! O is thrilled with it He is happy that it is the holidays but says he will miss his friends [awww]

Right, better go and pack a bag for swimming, we need to leave in 10 minutes.

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/07/2009 16:17

aww,that's lovely !

OP posts:
Hotcrossbunny · 17/07/2009 17:11

I'd have chosen the swimming too FWIW Hope O enjoys it! The book sounds really lovely, can't believe he's now on holiday! What are your plans for next week?

Hi MAS. I'll be joining you for the flu jab I expect. I have it each year as I have chronic asthma, but they're saying we may get the swine flu jab and the seasonal flu one too... Will be pincushions

Was a bit stressful at school pick up tonight. The new Year Two classes were announced and no-one seems to be happy The school have really really mixed up all the children, so it's a bit daunting as there'll be lots of new children in each class. B has been split up from her two 'best' friends, which is such a shame but she does have a couple of reasonably good friends with her. She is quite upset though (as am I TBH), as J and M are the ones who come here to play...

Am quite glad she has her birthday to distract her....

hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 17/07/2009 18:21

Hello, jsut back from swimming Dh gets the annual flu jab too - chronic asthma. You lot are falling apart [shakes head]

Am sorry to hear about B and the classes at school.
E will be in the same class for another year, ours only get mixed when moving to the junior school. In fact E has been with most of the gils in her class since nursery so it will be a bit of a shock when they eventually do get mixed up...

O had a fab time at swimming. His teacher told him she is moving him (and the rest of the group) into the next level - which is Bronze ASA and Personal Survival. So teh end of 'learning to swim / stroke improvement' as it were.
Girl A was not there today but O found two boys and a girl from his class and the 4 of them had a whale of a time

E has still not mentioned the disco. Am sure she will on Monday when her friends ask her why she was not there, but alas...

Dh and O and E have gone to collect a takeaway. Nothing in the house for dinner and it is too late to cook

MaryAnnSingleton · 17/07/2009 18:36

well done O !
Don't worry about classes being mixed up - really they do survive and it doesn't hurt to be with new people - the old friends will still come to play - look on it as an opening to new friendships !

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 17/07/2009 18:40

btw, called in at the surgery to see if I was on their list for a meningoccocal jab - my mum had one today as the doctor contacted her about it (she has no spleen either) - thought I should ask in case they'd forgotten..however I don't want it before the hols and probably shouldn't have it so soon after radio. I had the pneumoccocal a few years ago and it made my arm hurt and I felt rotten...it's funny as my doctor in London had a much more laid back attitude to it and never bothered with these jabs - I tend to think the overdo it actually

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 19/07/2009 16:00

hope the party was great Hotcross !

OP posts:
Hotcrossbunny · 20/07/2009 10:56

Morning Hope you both had great weekends!

WELL DONE O!

I wonder if I should ring the drs surgery about jab lists???? I agree with you about overdoing things, but this year it all seems worth thinking about.

The party was lovely thanks MAS. Bit stressful in places - lady with key to the hall didn't answer the door, forgot the birthday cake, so dh drove back for it taking B with him...of course, some guests arrived before they got back. The time flew by though, and everyone seemed to have a good time. The rain held off until the parents came to pick up, and then it threw it down, so we packed up in torrential rain. Only problem was we were a little late getting the key back, dh panicked, poor visibility and promptly reversed into a gatepost The gatepost was unscathed, but we have an enormous dent in the rear of the car

We had quite a quiet day for B's actual birthday. Present opening in the morning and lots of playing with her new toys, a trip to Spectrum for swimming and a Chinese Takeaway for tea. We did suggest the cinema, but she was adamant she wanted to show Daddy her swimming prowess Will email a couple of b'day girl photos when we get round to emptying the camera.

Must go and hoover - haven't been on top of cleaning all week...
