ah, we can only do 1000, so here's the new one, hope you find it !

Morning! Hope you both had great weekends.

I'm beginning to feel a bit more normal - can't believe I didn't even have the energy to MN - must have been bad Should be helping in school today, but didn't feel I could cope tbh, and there is soooo much to do here... The house looks like a bomb has hit it and there's a mountain of washing to get through. Yuck.

Will be back on here later, but must crack on with first load in the machine.

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/07/2009 08:57

hope you're feeling perkier today Hotcross...
T's tutor group team came second in the inter group quiz, out of the 7 tutor groups - he was one of the three team members, and they only lost by 3 points ! he is very pleased - a big boost to confidence I think. Have also let him open his own facebook account (with max. privacy settings) as it'll be a good way of nurturing school friendships (quite a few classmates are on there,as are some London pals)
Hope all is well with you too hippi

Hotcrossbunny · 08/07/2009 12:18

Yay! Well done T It's always so lovely when something goes right for our dc... How are you coping with the radio MAS? How's the redness?

Just read back a bit, and see that O and E have been swimming stars. Fantastic! B lives for her swimming lessons - I wonder why swimming is so loved by children, yet I know loads of adults who really aren't keen(myself included)? I blame secondary school swimming lessons - they were brutal!

I've just been tutoring this morning. The mum is very keen for me to continue through the holidays, and has said I can take B with me, so I guess I'll be carrying on... I've also said yes to teaching English to the Au Pair starting next week, so we'll see how that goes I get my ironing done in return, so quite an incentive to make it work

Right, must go and hang out the washing. Fingers crossed for no rain!

MaryAnnSingleton · 08/07/2009 13:25

Oh that is good news about your tutoring, I hope ! they must rate you and think you're doing a great job and the au pair teaching will be fine I'm sure - how lovely to have your ironing done
Am very tired today-will make v strong coffee soon..have to take T to hair cut later. The radiotherapists pointed out that I'm looking a bit sore underneath and advised copious aqueous,so I should make sure I do that...I tend to just put it on after my bath each morning. I also managed to come home with my top on the wrong way round

OP posts:
Hotcrossbunny · 09/07/2009 13:15

Hope you're less tired today MAS. Is it the treatment do you think? All the travelling to and fro must take it out of you too. Hope aqueous cream does the trick - you don't want to be sore if you can avoid it. at coming home with top the wrong way round!

Having my ironing done was why I said yes to the tutoring! TBH I would rather not do it, but I sort of feel I should make an effort to get back into the real world a bit, take the pressure off dh if I can. Ironing seems to pile up here, so the opportunity to have it done once a week is very tempting!

Have been at sports day today. Very low key. B only cried once, instead of the whole time last year! They had a circuit for big tricycles to go round and poor B just couldn't get the trike to move. Bless Actually she never managed to get her own trike at home to work, so I guess it must be a strange position for her or somehting.

Off to a PTA meeting now, and then swimming after school. It's all go! Hope you're both OK?

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/07/2009 13:47

where is Hippi ? hope all ok [anxious emoticon]
Oh poor B and the trike !
I think it's just a combination of everything that is tiring, rather than the actual radiation ! Am not dreadfully sore but will try to take care of the skin- side effects usually kick in after treatment stops,so I've heard.
Got a letter from T's school today inviting him to the Celebration of Success as he has been awarded Most Improved Boy in his tutor group - there's a little party and ceremony and he'll get a certificate and a small prize !!

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost44lbs · 09/07/2009 15:38

Hello, hello, am here

Wow, well done T!! Most Improved in which subject? Or overall? Either way, brilliant!!
And poor B - but trikes are impossible to ride, because the pedals are at the front so you have to push your legs forwards instead of down which must be sooo much harder. Both of mine struggled with them!!

All is well here. O has his friend H to play again (they have been spending a lot of time together recently ) and E has a girl A from her class who has not been here before. So far all is well

There was a photographer at gymnastics yesterday so I now have a mad picture of E jumping, with hair flying everywhere and wearing her club leotard but black socks with bright multicoloured stars on.... He took lots of lovely pictures of all the girls in the group and I wanted to buy them all....

Hope the radio continues to go well MAS - how far through are you now??

Brilliant news about the tutoring hotcross - they obviously really value you, well done

Right, the girls are annoying the boys so I better go....

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/07/2009 15:55

oh you are here - hooray !
I think he's just most improved in that he has blossomed a bit during the year - no particular subject. just his general being
Gymnastics photos sound great !
Only 3 radios left

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost44lbs · 09/07/2009 16:14

Yippee to only 3 sessions left Brilliant news

Hotcrossbunny · 10/07/2009 12:43

Wow! Only 3 more sessions - that's wonderful. Well done MAS

How exciting about T! You must be so proud, and it's a fabulous confidence boost for T, I'd imagine. It must be a really good school, if they manage to notice the quieter ones too. Lovely.

The gymanastics photos sound great. It's really nice to have a record of these things. It was sports day for B yesterday and I took a few photos and a bit of film and dh really enjoyed seeing them as he couldn't be there.

I've been in the school library this morning. Hadn't been for a couple of weeks and it was in a dreadful mess. Also there were piles of new books to be stamped and labelled, so I ended up staying longer than planned. As a result I haven't done anything here, so am feeling a bit overwhelmed with chores.

We're out for tea at one of my NCT friend's houses. We haven't seen them for nearly a year, so it'll be lovely to catch up. Only problem is her dd is quite forceful, so it may be a bit stressful at times! Hopefully, she and B will have grown up a bit and be able to negotiate a bit better

hippipotamiHasLost44lbs · 10/07/2009 12:53

Hello
Gymnastics picture is mad - and it does not show E at her best. In fact there was a beautiful one of just her face, but that does not really show gymnastics does it so I did not buy it...
Will try to get dh to scan the jumping one in so I can add it to my profile for you to laugh at admire

Feeling very nervous today - O's school report is due and I just have the gut feeling he won't have done as well. Don't know why, am just dreading it...Weird

Have to go and do Toe by toe this afternoon for the last time this year. Will be glad when it is over, it has been a bit of a chore the last few weeks - the summer holiday will be a nice break!

Hope you are both well. Feeling absolutely exhausted today (not sure why) so not a lot has gotten done today. Better go and make some lunch before heading off to school.

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/07/2009 17:11

would love to see pictures of respective girls !!
Hope report is ok hippi
Have a lovely weekend both of you xxx

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost44lbs · 10/07/2009 19:22

Hello

Report was fine. As suspected his effort has gone from 'very good' to 'good' over the last year. But O has a head full of fluff, girls, cars, girls, sports, fluff, the latest lego models, more fluff, oh, and another girl issue at the moment....
It is a miracle he even remembers what his name is half the time!!!
BUT - having said that, his report was on the whole very very good. He is performing well in all subjects, particularly in music, geography and history. His maths is at 4C level, so that is fine for Y5 afaik. His literacy is above average for reading but below for writing. And this is reflected in his geography, history and science as the written work for all 3 was a weak spot.
All in all a good report and he is working just above average for most things Also, his behaviour is good and the class teacher had nice things to say about him and in particular about his love of all things drama: "O is a star in teh making! He loves people watching him perform! He has a great sense of humour and enjoys making people laugh (at appropriate times)"

We have given him a box set of Horrible History books as a reward. Mainly because he loves them but also because it will ensure he keeps reading over teh summer holidays. Which in turn should help with his writing...

I hope you both have a lovely weekend!

MaryAnnSingleton · 10/07/2009 19:38

oh hooray for O !!!! that sounds fab !

Thank you

Hotcrossbunny · 13/07/2009 15:54

Hello! Haven't been around much over the weekend and today has been very busy, so my first real MN opportunity for days

I've just done my first session tutoring the Au Pair and she is here now doing my ironing. It's all a disaster Her host family gave her the wrong address for me, so I had a couple of panicked phonecalls from the employer and L. In the end I had to go out and find the poor girl.... So instead of starting at 1:30, we didn't start until 2:10. All a pain, particularly as I'm not earning anything from this The actual tutoring was like drawing teeth. She is very very conscientious, and doesn't like any popular culture, so all my discussions based around heat and hello magazines went down like a damp squib. Typical. Don't think I'll bother again...

Am off to Open Evening in a mo. B's report was pretty fab, so am just looking forward to being shown her work. Dh is meeting us at school.

Hope you're both OK and had nice weekends?

hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 13/07/2009 17:48

Hello Sorry to hear tutoring was a disaster And it must be stressful to have her in your house doing the ironing (I am much better left on my own, if we have people here I feel like I should be seen to be doing 'stuff'.

Well done B for a fab report. We will get E's one tomorrow at parent's evening

Had a nice day - nurse this morning, then a lovely dog walk and then my 16 year old niece came and spent the afternoon with us She is lovely and tells very animated stories of her time at school.
Dh is working away until Thursday so am putting a pizza on for the dc and then O needs to go to Cubs. Last session for the year so they are doing a BBQ and a water pistol fight.

Hope you are ok too MAS When is T's award ceremony?

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/07/2009 18:24

excellent B !!
Am so sorry that the au pair is proving a headache Hotcross - will you decide not to do it ?
Congratulations on the 48 lbs hippi !!
T's award ceremony/party is on Monday - this week it's Activities week and he is doing curry making - today it was chicken balti and pilaf rice - he had fun I think, his t shirt is proof of that
Last radiotherapy tomorrow !

OP posts:
hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 13/07/2009 18:26

WOOHOO!! Last radiotherapy tomorrow!!! That is brilliant news

Am loving the idea of curry making - how fab is that!! My nephew had activities week last week, I think this week is a tidying up and getting ready for the summer holiday week

Right, better get ready to take O to Cubs...

Hotcrossbunny · 14/07/2009 13:11

Last radio! FANTASTIC! Just in time for the holidays too, perfect. Well done for getting through it

Curry making sounds fab. I'd have loved that when I was at school. Is it curry making all week?

I can't believe how much weight you've lost Hippi. HUGE respect! Has it made you feel any better? we're all told that losing weight is the holy grail of being healthy and will all solve the world's problems. I'm sceptical myself

I've just got back from my school mums book group. It was fab! Loads of great discussio0n, and then lots of gossiping/chatting. Very pleasant.

We had open evening at school yesterday, and TBH I was a little disappointed. There just didn't seem that much evidence of a whole years work. But I guess that's what happens from a learning through play approach, not so much written recording. I'm thinking about what my old classes used to produce, loads and loads of stories, poems, reports etc, but B had very very little. And I know she's conscientious and able, so it's not a case of not having done the work. Also there didn't seem much marked work... When I think how many hours a week I spent marking children's work.... I mean, she's obviously learning and she loves school, but it's very informal compared to other schools in the area and a bit of a shock! Mustn't worry....

Off to hang out the washing. Oh, to answer your question, no I don't think I'll carry on tutoring the Au Pair. I'd be better doing my own ironing without stress.

hippipotamiHasLost48lbs · 14/07/2009 14:13

Hello

Woohoo MAS, you should be nearly finished and on your way home by now

Bookgroup sounds great hotcross, I so wish there was one here. Have approached various mums but there does either not seem to be much interest or they are already in a bookgroup elsewhere.... oh well...

Thanks for the congrats hotcross. I have to pinch myself sometimes - am so so pleased I do feel better - I feel fitter, I can walk up the school without getting out of breath. I appear to have more energy. And my clothes are loose on me which is a nice feeling. (in fact I must treat myself to some new clothes come the autumn )
I think longterm it has health-benefits, if I am reducing my chances of diabetes, heart disease adn certain cancers by doing this then it must be a good thing!

Have had a lovely day, took dillydog for a nice walk, then went off for a 45 minute brisk swim before meeting friends L and S for lunch. Nice to catch up. S starts a full time job after the summer holidays so it will get harder to meet up

I have two parent's evening appointments tonight - feel strangely nervous (how odd is that...)

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/07/2009 21:16

am sure that B has done all the work, but I know what you mean - there isn't much evidence of what T has done this year, but I guess it must be somewhere !
Think it's probably a good idea to let the au pair tutoring go, it sounded a bit really, not worth the worry, despite the ironing !
I'm so impressed by your weightloss hippi - you should be so proud of yourself,it's a great credit to your willpower and determination - well done, you deserve to splash out on new clothes most certainly !
Today T made his spinach and lamb curry and cauliflower and coconut bhaji - said it was very good ! Tomorrow it's a chicken and pineapple one..beef madras on Thursday and Thai curry on Friday - T is in his element !
Rads all done - the effects keep on for a few weeks,so I'm to expect redness and sunburn and tiredness, but we'll see ! Will miss it in a funny way

Oh wow, T's curry sounds great

Well done on finishing radio - I hope the after-effects won't be too severe.

Had O and E's parent's evening appointments this afternoon.
All is well. O's lovely teacher is very very impressed with him. She said the writing will come with time and he is still very young. (she then said she is making excuses for him as she has a soft spot for him, going on to say what a lovely, genuinly nice and kind boy he is )
E's appointment was fine too. We had piles of written work (all their workbooks, first day of the month books, handwriting and numeracy books etc) to sit through. Her report was great, she is doing well and a very likeable girl apparently

So all is well.

Can't wait to start the summer holidays now!!
