San Remo Fans Unite......
Welcome , Ciao ,

I used to really like kinder paradiso, although they were impossible to eat. They always used to leave me with a balconata innevata, not practical when you're trying to look grown up and professional.

Brangelina · 20/02/2009 10:38

YUk at pan di stelle biscuits, they taste like naff chocolate powder. Or maybe even unmade-up Angel delight mixture. Bleurgh!

Bucharest · 20/02/2009 10:40

Have you tried the cake though? Totally different!
Paradiso were nice, but I used to choke on them. (all that icing sugar on the back of the throat)
Dd (bizarrely) will only eat colazione piu. (not at colazione mind, she has a proper cereal or egg breakfast.....evil-English-Mum-emoticon....)

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 10:41

Yes, fetta al latte is like cartone. The paradiso is nice though

sorry that's dd

Penthesileia · 20/02/2009 10:44

@ Brange against Kinder!

Bucharest! So true! TMI alert: when I was giving birth to DD (at home - [lentil weaving emoticon] ) I was stood up in a squat, bellowing like a wounded wildebeest. Between my grunts, I said to the midwife, through gritted teeth: "THIS IS NOT AN EFFICIENT WAY TO PRODUCE CHILDREN!!!"

She laughed.

Brangelina · 20/02/2009 10:44

Lol! My DD gets weetabix or porridge, with American pancakes at the weekends[evil english mum mark 2]. She also likes a boiled egg for breakfast, but it's me who can't cope with the smell in the mornings.

I will sacrifice myself and try the cake.

Don't you think it's funny how digestive biscuits are marketed as a breakfast food here?

Penthesileia · 20/02/2009 10:46

I love going to Italy because I can eat biscuits for breakfast legitimately without feeling guilty.

I heart Mulino Bianco.

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 10:58

Ds at the moment eats a budino al cioccolato della centrale del latte di milano and either a toast with cheese and ham or toast with butter or toast with nutella !

dd: OJ and toast with ham or nutella.

Now, who's evil?

Yes, caffe' latte e biscotti normal breakfast here. I can't see nothing wrong with it.

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 10:59

forgot the at the end.

Penthesileia · 20/02/2009 11:02

Aaaahhh - this discussion is making me want biscuits... I might have to go to the Italian deli here to buy some Mulino Bianco... At least there's some panettone downstairs!

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 11:14

. I spend ridiculous amount of money on dark choc digestives now that we are here...

Bucharest · 20/02/2009 11:16

Yes- the digestives here are in the "special dietary needs" bit of the supermarket....presumably, bless, because they think they aid digestion? I'd never even seen them- my Mum spotted them as she likes a good feckle round the supermarket when she comes....

We have eggy toast with maple syrup on special days (ie days when mum can be arsed to get the frying pan out)

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 11:19

Really? Digestives and choc digestive are now proudly positioned in the biscuits aisle in our esselunga. They are even on offer at times yuhoooooooooooo!

For me, nothing beats a good fry up.

Brangelina · 20/02/2009 12:23

DP, odd man that he is, doesn't like chocolate digestives. Probably because the first and only time he bought a packet was in July and it quickly became one solid block. I think the memory of that has traumatised him as he won't touch them now, so I no longer buy any as I'm the one making all the sacrifice. The normal ones are a staple here though.

javierbardem · 20/02/2009 12:42

ohhhhh, today was the day of my first ever diet. By 10am i was tucking in an appleturnover with dairy cream bought from that wonderful british patisserie "Greggs". Then i come on here and you are talking biscuits! There is no way i can do a diet, life is daunting enough with kids, and torte are the only way i get through the days sometimes. But i am still wearing my preggers clothes!!!!
feel fed up with looking after kids, dream of being alone surrounded by books and cups of coffee. bah! wish i could have a nanny and put my feet up for a week.

Brangelina · 20/02/2009 12:49

Ooooh, real apple turnovers Strudels just don't hit the spot.

Sorry, that's not helping your diet is it? Don't bother dieting, it doesn't work, just try and do more exercise. You can do lots of exercises using your baby as a weight.

Rosa · 20/02/2009 13:47

AFter last nights pizza and beer I decided that today would eb healthy eating so I flipping went into the bakers and they had fritelle with nutella and they fell in my bag.
Thing is with Mulino Bianco biscuits they don't satisfy you unless you eat 20. Whereas with 1 or 2 digestives you are done. Hobb knobs also hit the spot for me mind you a Foxes selection box with a cuppa and a book - bliss.
DH is a Kinder man and dd likes the fetta a latte and penguino- She has never had a paradiso as my cake is better !!!! Breakfast here is cereal ( and I have given into the blessed sugar loaded ones but not every day ) but she does have fruit with it. Then she has a jam sandwich or a merendina depending on if we have bread or not. If I did American Pancakes daily Dh would be fatter than me and dd only likes them when I do blueberry or red ( Rasp / strawberry) sauce !!!
Oh damm can't do the wii fit as minirosa asleep on the floor... ( She is on a mat !)

My DD has a massive breakfast of toast, scrabled egg, yogurt, oj, sometimes more toast with honey or cheese, and sometimes fruit. Don't know where she puts it all really. It's funny cos I just had toast and cereal as a child, and only really got into breakfast when I was pg with DD.

Biscuits for breakfast leave me cold I'm afraid, though at any other time of day I can eat a packet. Which is why I don't buy them.

Bucharest · 20/02/2009 16:44

Sputnik- me too. Those bahlsen choko-kekky things, 9 in a packet, doesn't even touch the sides. I eat all 9, then hide the box before dd comes back from nursery....

That's a fab breakfast your dd has though. Mine eats like a sparrow....

Puter been locked for 2 hrs, so am going back to lactivist thread....though I see from a quick glance that the apologists have started to descend, so I might go and clean the manky shower instead.....

Rosa- is there a difference between the recipe for American pancakes and Brit ones, or are they just thicker. God, I'm dribbling and drooling now. Dp is on way home with wages, hence cupboard is reminiscent of Hubbard's for time being. (even resorted to a bleurghy colazione piu at my merenda time)

Rosa · 20/02/2009 17:00

FOr American ones I use Sr flour and sometimes add sugar . Eaiser to bung in fruit etc. I have resorted to a pancake mix everyonce in a while as well
Brit ones Pl flour and quantities are more slapdash also they are runnier. It must be Shrove Tuesday soon I guess which is about the only time I do Uk Pancakes !!!
DD still being a fairy this pm after nap Nonna said why ? - I said as she wants to and if she wants to be a fairy in 3 weeks time she can !!!!!

Sputnik wow at your breakfast intake I am impressed !

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 17:23

Impressed by Sputnik's dd appetite . Well done!

And salivating at the thought of Rosa's pancakes.

And shivering at the thought of going on a diet...

Rosa · 20/02/2009 19:21

Franca its the after effects of the wine ( and ciggies that make you want pancakes. I recall in my youth the day after ( who saw the morning) I wanted a fry up with a can of coke.....
How are the varicella babes ????
Both mine are in bed and its Er but I missed last weeks 2nd episode so am unsure on what to do I might just have to watch San Remo .........

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 19:48

No, I don't think so, I'm always in the mood for pancakes (esp with bacon strips on the side).

Mine are still awake... actually, it's high time I went and put them to bed!

Rosa · 20/02/2009 19:53

I can't do the pancakes with syrup and bacon on the side - I can do the pancakes or the bacon first and then the pancakes...
