hi all. feeling better although fat too! spooky!

brange no nothing happened just groggy and grumpy. I've had two busy and lovely days with kids.

I cannot function without a 'caffelatte' in the mornings but recently I'm eating to many buisquits. hence not nice fatbelly. will change to rye bread and toast from tomorrow.

dd had cereals, she doesn't like the biscotti thing much. which is fine.

re opancake. I've read somewhere that to make american fluffy pancake you need to whisk the egg white separately and then mix it to the mixture. they really come up like the one I had in califirnia. I'd recommend it.

Sputnik · 20/02/2009 21:26

So apparently DD doesn't have chicken pox, they may be insect bites or allergic reaction, we're supposed to keep an eye on them. She does have diarrhea though. What fun this parenting business is.

We eat pancakes a lot here for dinner (well DC's do, I usually get pancake making fatigue before me and DH get any), with cheese and tomato. Will have to try the fluffy method.

cupofteaplease · 20/02/2009 22:59

Ciao a tutti!

I'm coming to Italy (Urbino) on Monday for a month to teach in a scuola elementare for a month as part of my PGCE. My dds are coming with me for 16 days. They are 3 and 20 months.

I know I am not a proper ex pat, but would love some support from other English folk in Italy during my time abroad, if possible! I have lived in Sardinia for a year pre-bambine, so am aware to some extent of the culture into which we are about to enter. I'm very nervous, but also a little excited!!

francagoestohollywood · 20/02/2009 23:05

Oh hello . Urbino is a stunning place to live for a month, I hope you and your dds will have a fab time there! Please, let us know if we can help in any way

Have just woken up after falling asleep in fron of ER. Did you see it Bucharest? at Abby. Will go and finish watching an interview to the golino.

Goodnight!

cupofteaplease · 20/02/2009 23:18

Thanks Franca!

I really hope my Italian returns when we arrive on Monday. Haven't been to Italy for 3 years, so its molto rusty!!

I shall stay in touch!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 21/02/2009 00:03

missed you all again... oh, well...

spent 2 days, I mean TWO days trying to make sense of the consulate's website and make sure of what I need to do for DD's passport... so now I spent £35 to send her birth cert to the FCO office in Milton Keynes to be "legalised"... so I think I'll attempt an appointment at the consulate and have her put on mine only for now.........

been busy with Mum, well, she's been busy with the washing and cooking (made waffles today [yum]) and DCs, I've been clearing out my wardrobe for the last couple of days and finally found a couple of things I thought the wardrobe had eaten...

oh, hello cupoftea hope you have a good time in Italy!

must have caffelatte in the morning or I'm un-dead, normally with toast with jam/nutella, sometimes biscuits, though only italian biscuits, digestives are perfect for afternoon tea, but not in the morning.

hope all the LOs are better soon

Rosa · 21/02/2009 08:09

Morning all - Ciao cupof tea - Urbino - lovely place see you on here..bet its cold at the moment !
Sunflower what is this having to send birth certificate to have it legalised ..never had to do that with dd1 ....MInd you have you already had her registered as British ( heaps of money and good old Italian style paperwork ?)
Sputnik good news (??) that not Varicella hope she is not in too much discomfort.
I did not watch ER as I am a week behind so will try and catch up this week sometime.
Carnival outside party this pm - dd wants to go as a fairy but we can't get the dress over her coat so have tied fairy ribbons on her bee costume ....

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 21/02/2009 08:38

first af all apologies for bad spelling last night but was typing in the dark.

sunflower I'll bring pen and paper on sunday so you can spend a bit of our time before the show telling me exactly what I need to do, especially this business of legalising the birth cert (usual italian waste of time mehtink). yes? pleeeease!! [begging emoticon].
could you not send all the rest by post as wel so to avoid much dreaded consulate experience?

when and where are we meeting then?

cupoftea welcome . hope you have a great time. urbino is a great place. we are here for help or to listen to rant against italian silly ways of life if you like.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 21/02/2009 09:01

quick ciao while I get coffee ready...

I think you have to legalise Brit doc (£27 PER DOCUMENT*!!! but you only pay £6 to get them back, wether one or a batch ) for any official thing you need to do outside UK...

anyway, don't know Angel, well, not anymore... so you will have to tell me where/when.... if you want to email me at sunflowerg at ymail dot com, so we can exchange numbers etc.

back tonight, have a good start of the w-end

Bucharest · 21/02/2009 10:00

Blimey- bureaucracy alive and kicking- you're in the UK aren't you Sunshine? Is this the Italian consulate? Can only imagine if the Brit one here's anything to go by...

Rosa, going to try those pancakes....love US ones....

CupofTea- hello! That sounds a fab PGCE thingummy...have fun.....

Off to hoover and be Stepfordy.

francagoestohollywood · 21/02/2009 12:52

It's spring today in Milan . Sky is blue and no chilly wind. Hurrah! Have been to our local market with the shopping trolling, how stepfordy is that?

Bucharest, did you see ER last night??? . I remember reading the synopsis of this episode at least 2 yrs ago (I think I was still in the UK then) and deciding I should stop watching it.

Dd is in a good mood, also because her friend came to see her this AM. No new spots. Dh and ds are going to the mountains, as ds's school will be close the whole week. Me and dd hope to join them in a few days.

So, is the show tomorrow pippi and all? How exciting you are meeting, I wish I could come too!

francagoestohollywood · 21/02/2009 12:54

at trolling. I'm on mn too much. Trolley of course.

Sunflower, I don't remember we legalized dd's birth certificate... but it was yrs ago and dh did the whole thing, he went to london and put her on our passports when she was just a few weeks.

Rosa · 21/02/2009 13:17

LO at Stepford Franca - I cannot survive without my trolly in fact it is all rusty MIL offered to buy me one for my birthday !!!
Today teh city is packed I took dds out and regretted it bit time. The people coming down the street from the station and over the bridge - it was manic every year we teh papers and locals say why don't they send people down in 2 routes via Santa Croce as well and the commune say they will do it next year but they don't. They just put vigili on the more central bridges. DH has manflu and dd has a carnival party this pm which I was hoping to avoid but I think it will be me taking her but minirosa will have to stay at home - can't run round after dd and hang onto pram and its too cold for the marsupio.

Rosa · 21/02/2009 13:18

Franca a whole week from school here they get monday and tues ..Lucky ds have dds spots exploded yet or are they just fading nicely ?

francagoestohollywood · 21/02/2009 13:33

I saw a very stylish shopping trolley in Foppapedretti the other day. Mine is totally uncool, I bought it at the local market or 17 euros! Hang on, I just decided that an uncool trolley is actually very cool... are you with me?

Not all schools in milan close the whole week (the scuola media where my friend teaches closes only from thurs. Scuole materne are open), I think ds's school is closing the whole week because they have meetings etc. Boh! So dh has signed ds for 5 days of ski school. Hope he'll release some energy there, he desperately needs to be as active as possible!
Dd has some nasty crosticine, but I think she is on the mend. She'd love to go to nursery in the next days as they are doing lots for carnevale and she is keen to finish her costume.

Try and have fun this afternoon rosa... it's warm here today, I hope it gets there too

Sputnik · 21/02/2009 14:41

Hmm, I think when I take up my life as a citizen of Rome I'll definitely be getting myself a trolley. Agree with the uncool/cool thing.

I chickened out of trying to make DD an owl costume for carnival so she is going to be a (red) indian princess. Preferable to a winx anyway!

Welcome cupoftea! Urbino is a fantastic place, you will love it

Sputnik · 21/02/2009 14:44

Just feel I should add that my shopping trolley will not be tartan though. Franca and Rosa, I do hope yours aren't or I'll have to disassociate myself from you both

francagoestohollywood · 21/02/2009 15:30

LOL. I actually used to have a tartan one, as mum gave me hers... that was really too uncool to be cool . So I was really glad when it broke on my way back home from the supermarket a few months ago. So I bought my self a plain blue uncool (but cool) one al mercato!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 21/02/2009 16:32

I DID imagine it green!! I could picture you walking to the market with it!
agree re the uncool/cool thing too.

spring here too - fantastic. so glad we are near a lovely park. hope is the same tomorrow and dd and I will have a ball! it'll be the first time I'm going on the tube with a child without a pram!!! that is something worth celebrating I tell you.

very at the whole carnival thingy - red indian ubercool imho sputnik!

have done nothing stepfordy. thought I'll iron (after 7 months) but I'm sure I'll have much better things to do .

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 21/02/2009 16:33

blue I meant.... gosh

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 21/02/2009 16:34

quick poll:

how sad is to be so happy to be lost whilst driving and refuse to use satnav so that I could listen to all of eminem cd as kids asleep?!

javierbardem · 21/02/2009 16:41

very sad!
sent youi and sunflower an email.

francagoestohollywood · 21/02/2009 16:44

Surely can't be sadder than spending one hr on youtube watching old guns and roses videos (and pics of slash drunk) ... just done that

francagoestohollywood · 21/02/2009 16:45

Actually, you have satnav?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 21/02/2009 16:45
