Thank you! Will have a peruse in a moment.

No, it wasn't Malaysia, twas the land of the Raj....

Brangelina · 06/03/2009 14:28

Yes, that's the one the nice Embassy lady was telling me about but that's where I've missed the boat as didn't apply before 12mo and I can't claim any of the excuses (unless incorrect info during a 5min enqury when at the consulate would count? but how could I substiate it?). In any case, the lady advised going for the 3(5) as that would mean DD could pass citizenship onto her children, but that's the one where we'd have to reside in the UK for 3yrs.

cupofteaplease · 06/03/2009 18:35

Hello all,

Well I've survived another week here with mum and the children! Getting the hang of eaching Italian children now!

We are off to San Marino to do some shopping tomorrow with a friend- we've really found Urbino to be SO quiet!

Hope you all have nice plans for the weekend, and will be spoilt for Festa della Donna.

francagoestohollywood · 06/03/2009 18:50

Hello Cupoftea!
Have a lovely time in San Marino. More lively places to visit are Riccione and Rimini... and don't forget to eat piadina .
And another place I love (not sure how lively it is at this time of the yr) is Senigaglia.

cupofteaplease · 06/03/2009 19:05

Hi Franca- thanks for the recommendations- I have heard of Senigalia- some of my fellow teaching students live there. I shall try and give Rimini a visit too. My late Dad spent a summer there as a young teenager- he always remembered it fondly!

francagoestohollywood · 06/03/2009 19:24

Rimini used to be very popular with people from Northern Europe!
It is nowadays over crowded with tourists during the summer, but I suspect it might be quite pleasant off season. Very nice architecture like the tempio malatestiano, some interesting shops and it's nice to walk on the beach when it's more or less empty!

Brangelina · 06/03/2009 22:22

Oh blimey, is it really festa della donna on Sunday? Best stay in (like I ever do anything else) to avoid drunken hordes and all those male strippers.

I'm exhausted, just finished a presentation so I didn't have it hanging over me all weekend and missed the whole of ER. I think it's time for a stiff drink tisana then I'm off to bed.

Bucharest · 07/03/2009 08:10

Oh yes, I do a bah humbug thing at festa della donna, as the goings on do nothing to advance the idea of women's equal place in society, but just set us back about 120 yrs.
I tell everyone, loudly, that thanks for the poo-stinky revolting mimosa, but I'm proud of being a donna 365 days a year, and if I want to see orange men with their tackle out next Friday* then so I shall- not just on the day they tell me I can.
Pffffft.

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2009 09:55

Penthesileia!!!!!!!!!!!! A fat envelope has just arrived full of Waitrose food magazines . Thank you thank you thank you ! It's made my day!

Totally agree with you re the festa della donna, mind you, the strippers are a novelty to me... when did this habit start? boh!

off to read my mags

Sputnik · 07/03/2009 19:50

Yes, me too. Strippers?
I'm bah humbug too tbh, whose are the other 364 days a year then?

We finally got up the mountain and went sledging, had a great time. Hopefully we'll be going again next week, bugs and snow allowing.

Sledging, og I love sledging?
Where is everyone?
I wonder if rosa survived the 3 yrs old party

francagoestohollywood · 07/03/2009 21:02

oh I love sledging! (should have been)

Rosa · 08/03/2009 06:46

We survived !!!!
Thanks to 2 great friends we got teh room set up and dd arrived first and her face was just a picture with the balloons and decorations. Her cake was a great success and I am kicking myself as I don't have a close up pic of it - I did a castle ( pink!!!). Gave up trying to do any sort of games as the children just raced round danced and drew ( I had a big sheet of paper taped to the floor). She got loads of presents pleased to say nothing really tacky .. Think that is also due to the fact that in zona we have a Dimetra book shop so she got loads of books and puzzles which is perfect for her. - Dh and I were up to 01.00 the night before preparing stuff and the excess he has taken to work today to feed is colleagues
DH announced also last night that in June we should get a place in the mountains or the beach - Jesolo / Cavallino 3porti as the girls should not be in the heat / humidity and they need aria piu sana.... What better inspiration to loose weight I have to go on an Italian beach eeeeek Thing is we have to find somewhere now ...I wonder who will have to do the research for it ??????
Right off to start reading / puzzle doing - despite the fact she was exhausted and fell asleep at 21.00 ( late for her she was up with the dawn !) BEAUTIFUL spring day here.

Rosa, happy to hear dd enjoyed her party. Sounds like it was a great day for you all . And yum at the pink castle cake...

Beautiful mild springy day here as well. We went to Rotonda della Besana for the exhibition of Corrierino dei Piccoli, and I was happy to see my favourite comic: La Stefy. Pippi, do you remember her?
Ds is going to play at a friend in an hr, so I should tidy up etc. Hope I won't get sucked in by the internet!

viggoandjavier · 09/03/2009 10:58

hellooooo, have detoxed from mumsnet and as always i feel full of energy. haven't read all the messages as have screaming baby on lap ,but well done rosa for organising megaparty, you do seem like a superwoman!

have become obsessed with the julie myerson case, have quite strong opinions about this, what do you think about what she has done?

viggoandjavier · 09/03/2009 10:59

changed my name as ds read it and told a friend what my nickname was, thankfully my friend didnt' have a clue, especially as ds pronounced it in a very funny way.

viggoandjavier · 09/03/2009 11:01

by the way, do you agree that after 6 months i can more or less give dd anyfood she is willing to take? except nuts i guess....she had some sgombro the other day but then worried that it may contain salt. boh.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 09/03/2009 11:12

hello everyone

sorry, have been busy in RL...

so, on friday DP came home happy - he's going to be made redundant. well, firt his manager was apologetic about his strop the day before. then they all had big meeting were they announced they needed to let 5 people go. DP's post (and DP) were never on the line, but he volunteered obviously. other boss was very sorry, though obviously not sorry enough to change his mind about home working (he's the one who's opposed it out of 3 partners). so I guess today they wil be finalising things.

and this morning my bestest friend had a baby girl! it's even more special ad the 4 of us best friends were all pg together, with her being originally due 2 wks after me, but sadly lost it very early on. So have been a bit teary since receiving the text I'm so happy.

DS is home with temp (he's had it since sat) so will probably get another of those letters soon...

and DD's been a pain, well it's her dad's fault, that'll teach DP insinsting on falling asleep on the sofa, ignoring me telling him to go to bed, and then coming up at 4am and making casino looking for the alarm clock and waking both me and DD up!. oh, but then at 5.30 HE went downstairs as HE needed to sleep (DD being very awake and chatty)...

anyway, hope you're all well

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 09/03/2009 11:17

hi viggo

don't know, but DD loves grissini and they contain salt, though I guess traces... but then she's only started... sgombro is vey good oily fish, though...

viggoandjavier · 09/03/2009 11:46

i suppose one shouldn't worry about traces..
has your dp actually stopped working then? lots of friends are losing their jobs, very scary...

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 09/03/2009 11:54

no, not yet, not sure when... ideally he'd stop in 3 months or something, so we have a bit extra cash but not sure...

where's everyone? have we all detoxed at the same time?

viggoandjavier · 09/03/2009 12:14

everybody is talking about cash these days, it is terrible it has come to this....

does your dd manages to eat quite a lot of the grissino? i still worry a bit about chocking...

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 09/03/2009 12:25

I give it to her the "broken" side, so she rubs it on her gums and sucks so that it melts, no gagging incidents with grissini yet
